Hello. Looking for other ladies (or men!) who are IVF cycling with the Victoria Wing at Nuffield Woking either privately or NHS to share what happens, how it's going, any tips (what's the car parking like?!), to support one another and success stories of course. My stats:
Geeup
Aged 34
Ttc #1 for 22 cycles so far (4 with Clomid)
OH has low morphology MFI (but it's varied)
NHS cycle - first appt 31st Jan with Dr Riddle
One question to get us going, anyone know what the policy is about having 2 embryos put in on first cycle? Thanks!

Here's a quick description of the scratch:

An endometrial scratch is a procedure used to help embryos implant more successfully after In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) treatment. It is generally only used for patients who have experienced multiple unsuccessful IVF cycles, despite the transfer of good quality embryos.

Some people think it helps implantation, a friend of mine had one on her 3rd (and first successful) cycle so has advised that I ask for one! I think it's an extra so I'm not sure if they let you pay for it if you're NHS or even let you have one first time around. I'm sure you'll be lucky anyway Kimmy. 🤞🏼

MrsDarcy4092 · 28/03/2017 10:47

Kimmy that's fantastic news, fingers crossed for the next few days and transfer on Saturday.

There is a family on Facebook from Essex who had 2 embryos transferred and both split, yesterday she delivered quads!!! Gulp

geeup · 28/03/2017 11:15

Hi Kimmy I had two powder vials with one water for the trigger so same as you I think. I'm so scared my eggs are bursting out now and collection will be too late!
As far as I'm aware VW will only put back one blast (or two Day 3s if they're not doing as well) - is that what they've said to you kimmy?

Flamingo, thanks for the description no they didn't mention that to me this is my first cycle and I am an NHS one😬

Tee4me sorry I was typing fast, yes only one back in on Saturday.

Darcy that story is amazing good to hear some positive stories.

Geeup , yes I had two powders with one water I felt the same way thinking omg I will explode before EC, don't worry it's not gonna happen , I ran out of Busserelin o mean not completely but the last one I had to inject before my Pregnyl it was only 4.2 ml and finished so I kept stressing what if this will give bad results?
Yes Geeup they only put back one and they a for the 5th day !

Kimmy82 · 28/03/2017 12:12

They aim for the 5th day

Kimmy82 · 28/03/2017 12:21

Geeup good luck with your EC tomorrow ! X

geeup · 28/03/2017 13:35

Good luck I hope all goes well Smile

geeup · 29/03/2017 13:42

Hi. Went ok thanks. 6 eggs. Hoping they're all extra good quality to make up for lack in numbers. Just got to wait it out now for the call tomorrow. Feeling quite sore but having a lazy afternoon on sofa.

Flamingo44 · 29/03/2017 14:10

6 sounds like a great amount, I'd definitely be pleased with that! Hopefully you'll get at least half fertilise so you should have some left in the freezer! Will keep everything crossed.

Hope you have a nice restful afternoon and feel better later/tomorrow.

MrsDarcy4092 · 29/03/2017 14:11

Great news geeup, 6 is a good number. Fingers crossed for fertilisation and hope you feel better after a few hours rest Flowers

Kimmy82 · 29/03/2017 19:31

Geeup it's amazing so happy for you !!!

I was sore too but I feel good now ! Fingers crossed for you hope they all fertilise ! X

The embryologist called me today looks like all 5 are doing well so I have been called in for Saturday 5 day blastocyst one . Hope there will be at least 2 good quality to freeze.

Kimmy82 · 30/03/2017 12:28

Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately I have bad news, something happened that I was not expecting at all. The clinic called us this morning to say that they had to discard all our 5 embies as there was a bacteria in there which has spread and the embies started to degenerate because of this.

Sorry that I have to announce such bad news but what's the point of these chats if we are not honest, right?

They want us to go in to check me and husband to see if any of us had any infections but I'm a bit confused, shouldn't they have checked these prior to us starting the treatment, plus I think it can also be that maybe something wasn't sterile enough? My mom is a nurse she said this can easily happen, even when they take the eggs out and for example the instruments are not clean enough.

I don't want to blame anyone plus I know it doesnt matter anyway, but I never head of such thing before, why did this happen to us?

I am devastated. :(

geeup · 30/03/2017 12:54

Oh god kimmy that is awful. I don't know what to say. You must be devastated. Go and find out what they have to say. Have all the tests and you'll have information. If they don't find anything, ask if there's any other way the bacteria can get in. Look after yourself. I'm so sorry.

Flamingo44 · 30/03/2017 12:54

Kimmy I'm so sorry. That's horrible news to hear, you poor thing, no wonder you're devastated.

Definitely worth investigating how it happened to ensure it won't happen again in the future? When do you get to go and discuss this with them?

Sending hugs 🤗

MrsDarcy4092 · 30/03/2017 13:52

Kimmy I'm so sorry.

Do you have an appointment to discuss this? If it's contamination caused by them they may have other people they are having to share the news with. I know that doesn't make it any better for you but you may get an idea when you go in for the appointment.

Must be completely gutting to hear and I'm so sorry

Kimmy82 · 30/03/2017 15:29

Thanks All x

Geeup, how many eggs fertilized?

Yes, we are going in to have a discussion with them, they will check both of us for nay infections and will go from there.

Will keep you updated.

I think we have just very unlucky, I'm sure this won't happen to any of you guys, keep positive.

Kimmy82 · 30/03/2017 15:31

I don't have an appointment yet, they want my husband to go check his... tomorrow any time and then we can go in next week to discuss, they were very supportive. I need to speak to my husband properly tonight, I'm still at work...can't put my mind to it.

geeup · 30/03/2017 21:44

Hi kimmy. I was thinking about you and did some googling. Whilst it must be heartbreaking, you're not the only person this happens to. I found this - Infection of culture dishes: very occasionally culture media may become contaminated with bacteria from the semen or from the vagina during egg collection which leads to the embryos dying. There are various strategies to minimise the risk in subsequent cycles.
I found it at www.fertilityassociates.co.nz/treatment-options/in-vitro-fertilisation-ivf/ivf-problems-risks-solutions/. It doesn't make it better but thought I'd let you know it's a very sad risk that does occasionally happen. Hope you're ok.

OP posts:
Kimmy82 · 31/03/2017 04:24

Thank you Geeup really nice of you, didn't sleep all night still in misbelief. I also researched and read it can come from either patient or the lab. It can be as simple as Candida when they perform the egg collection the egg can get in touch with bacteria on the vagina. I also read E Coli would show on the day 1 in the lan while Candida shows between days 2-4, for me it was ok day 3 they didn't see it before . The annoying thing is that out of all the risks that I was scared of this is the most stupid reason and something that has very low chance to happen . I was very unlucky . I also tried to locate other people with same stories and found none. I could only locate some medical case studies.

Geeup how are your embies doing ?

How's everyone else please stay positive this is only my sad story ...

Tee4me · 31/03/2017 08:19

Oh Kimmy I'm so sorry to read what's happened. You must feel completely floored, as you say, wasn't really a risk that was on your radar and you were clearing all the obvious hurdles and so close to the finish line. Keep that chin up, hopefully the clinic will continue to be supportive and sought to make another attempt at the very earliest possibility?

geeup · 31/03/2017 08:37

You're very kind to keep encouraging our positivity kimmy. You're a warm soul.
Had the call this morning day 2. Of the 5 fertilised eggs, all have split but there are 3 doing the best so they'll leave till Monday and hope for a 5dt.
God I'm nervous. Will try and stay busy. I'm spotting a bit which is worrying as hope my lining doesn't get thin but online it looks like it can just happen after egg collection. Anyone else have brown discharge after egg collection but before transfer?

OP posts:
Flamingo44 · 31/03/2017 09:05

Kimmy it must be so hard to try and stay positive, but as Tee4me said, everything else was going so well which is a positive sign for future cycles. I'm sure that's not much comfort right now, but hopefully they will help to get you started again as soon as possible. When you hold your baby, these few weeks extra will all be a distant memory.

Geeup sounds like they're doing well, must be so nerve racking but will keep everything crossed for you!

Sorry to ask such a mundane question when everyone else has much bigger things going on, but I have my first scan and AMH blood test this afternoon, and I was just wondering if anyone could remember how much the car park is? Just wondering how much change I need to try and find! Thanks.

geeup · 31/03/2017 09:10

The car park is free!
