Hello. Looking for other ladies (or men!) who are IVF cycling with the Victoria Wing at Nuffield Woking either privately or NHS to share what happens, how it's going, any tips (what's the car parking like?!), to support one another and success stories of course. My stats:
Geeup
Aged 34
Ttc #1 for 22 cycles so far (4 with Clomid)
OH has low morphology MFI (but it's varied)
NHS cycle - first appt 31st Jan with Dr Riddle
One question to get us going, anyone know what the policy is about having 2 embryos put in on first cycle? Thanks!

Thanks drink. I did google but you never know what to believe do you!

Not at all. We were told that a cycle would be approximately £6.5k. It ended up at £8k. So it must be circa 1.5k for drugs privately. I'm sure you just pay prescription charges, otherwise why fund the cycle? Many people couldn't afford the 1.5k

MrsDarcy4092 · 21/01/2017 16:22

Silly question but for those private patients at VW Wevr got out forms and initial appointment coming up. I'm close to the bmi limit for private ivf, when will they weigh me? Initial appointment or implications ?

Thank you!

drinkyourmilk · 21/01/2017 16:47

I wasn't weighed at all. They just took my word. I did speak to Dr Riddle about it and he said that he's fairly relaxed about weight as in other countries (USA particularly ) the upper weight allowance is far higher and results don't differ too much. I was only just under the bmi at initial consult, 1/2 stone less again at implications meeting. I was on slimming world at the time so knew exactly how much I weighed.

MrsDarcy4092 · 22/01/2017 07:11

Thank you so much! I'm on sw too and lost 41/2 stone so far, I plan to continue it through ivf and pregnancy (if it works)
Ty so much that is so helpful.

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread.
Dr C is my consultant through NHS.
We've discovered I only have one working Ovary & tube and are considering IVF (I'm 43 with a gorgeous 2yr old already)

Do you know if we need to have all the tests again (including HSG) if we go private at Victoria Wing?

moggle · 27/01/2017 13:22

Hi, I think the one they always insist on doing themselves is the AMH test as it can really vary from lab to lab. Apart from that it probably depends on when the tests were done. If they are all relatively recent I wouldn't think they will want them doing again. We had all the usual tests and a HSG on the NHS within a year prior to starting private IVF at the victoria wing and the only one we had to redo there was AMH.

MotherFeeder · 27/01/2017 18:04

Thanks Moggle, that's helpful to know

drinkyourmilk · 31/01/2017 08:26

Hi geeup good luck for today. Hope the appointment goes smoothly and Dr R is able to answer all your questions. Exciting times!

geeup · 31/01/2017 09:10

Thanks drink. Looking forward to our appointment! Feels exciting to be doing something!! Will let you know how I get on.

Hello. I thought I'd come back and update. Appointment went well - all the staff are lovely. Bit sad they have confirmed we have to have ICSI because most of DHs sperm didn't survive the sperm survival test. Implications appointment is booked for end of the month. Now I'm just waiting for my period - never have I wanted it to come before!
Has anyone else had ICSI? I had a couple of questions...
How is everyone else doing who is cycling?

OP posts:
moggle · 03/02/2017 09:40

Hi, glad you liked it there! though a bit sad to have to do ICSI but good that they won't be wasting time on a cycle that can't be successful.
We had a frozen embryo transferred yesterday. Really hoping it's third time lucky for us. If not we'll be going for a review with Mr Riddle to ask about whether we should continue with the frozen attempts (still have 5 left!) or go for another fresh before I get too much older.
But hopefully we'll be lucky this time.

geeup · 03/02/2017 10:46

Ahhh you're PUPO! Congratulations and hope the next two weeks pass as fast as possible.

Hi Geeup,
I hope your appointment went well on the 31st? Was it your first appointment there?
Everyone there is so lovely, I think it's Caroline we met first and she is just the nicest lady ever, I was panicking like mad over the injections and she showed me how to do it that didn't hurt at all.
You do feel like a bit of a pin cushion for all the blood tests they have to take but most of that happens before you even get there so you've probably been through it all.
I unfortunately did end up with severe OHSS so I was in hospital for a couple of days but it's all for the greater good Smile
They froze all of mine and it was on the 1st we went in for the egg transfer, 2dp5bt.
I had Mr Riddle and he is such a nice man.
Ours was male factor too, my husband was also on that proxeed stuff, I've heard 1000mg of vit c a day helps too.
He stopped all alcohol for three weeks before the sample day and his sample was the best it has ever been. :)
Wishing you lots of luck, it's such an exciting time, along with all the other emotions 😉.
I prewarned my husband before I go on the progesterone each time, my patience drops to nothing and I'm not the most calm person to be around while I'm on that, otherwise I'm fine so it's a weird change 😂. xxx

Belle82 · 03/02/2017 11:16

Sorry I should have read the rest of your comments. We did ICSI, I thought they might have done because Of my husbands samples. I'm so glad they did now.
When we had the EC, the embryologist came in and said as there were 23 eggs they were going to split them in half and do ivf and icsi, the icsi - all but one survived (5 left to day 5) and ivf - one worked and I don't believe it survived.
Was there a particular reason you didn't like the idea of ICSI? Everything is a personal choice when going through IVF.xxx

geeup · 03/02/2017 11:30

Thanks so much for your comments belle. It's great to hear from someone going through it. I'm totally open for ICSI - we both are. A little bit of us was just a bit worried that if my husband's sperm issues were genetic, we'd pass them to a son if we had a boy and then we'd have to tell him at some point that he'd have to have fertility treatment too and when would be the right time (childhood, teens, when they've got married?!) Apparently the first ICSI babies are now grown men and their SA show they're 3 times more likely to have sperm problems. However, we've accepted that lots of people have babies knowing they pass something on to them and its just one of those things and isn't a guarantee anyway - they could be fine and reproduce with no problems. Would be interested to hear if you discussed this with your partner? Thanks again.

Hi,
We're also male factor and hoping we can do icsi Rather than straight to donor but waiting to see. His results are very bad - 0% morphology 0%motility and less than 0.1million per ml count. We've tried tamoxifen which didn't help . Not had a sa at vw though yet. Dh doesn't drink and has also given up caffeine and takes fertilisan so we're hoping.
Where did you hear that boys born to icsi are three times more likely to have fertility problems? That concerns me :-(

geeup · 03/02/2017 14:02

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.newscientist.com/article/2108218-male-fertility-treatment-seems-to-pass-infertility-on-to-sons/amp/?client=safari Pasting in the app so not sure if it'll work as a link but try copy and paste if needed. Mr Riddle did confirm he'd read the study but as I say, I only makes it more likely they'll have problems but not guaranteed.

Belle82 · 03/02/2017 14:37

Wow I hadn't seen that until now.
But I will show my husband when he gets home.
I think for my husband, his sperm hasn't always been bad, as he got a girlfriend pregnant a couple of times when they were about 18, she didn't go through with them (and she was on contraception) but because of that we think it might be an age thing.
I think as we're in a society where people are settling and having children when we're older than say our parents generation I might talk to my boys if I have them (or if I'm lucky enough to have any children 😊) to perhaps consider freezing their sperm at a younger age. xxx

moggle · 03/02/2017 16:12

Remember that people having IVF for female reasons might be passing on a tendency for girls to be less fertile as well. I know it hasn't been proven.
Plus by the time a hypothetical son is old enough to worry about it there may be better technologies. Look at how IVF and egg/ embryo freezing has come on in just our lifetime.

moggle · 03/02/2017 16:15

Congrats on being PUPO too belle! I'm determined to stay off my feet a bit better this time round. Easier said than done with a 2 yr old. But we both just woke up from a 2.5 hour nap so that's good! Means we'll have a terrible bedtime but DH will be home by then :-)

geeup · 03/02/2017 16:54

Very good points belle and moggle. I do hope they can think of a way to improve research into infertility to improve things in our lifetime for our children's generation. It's such a devastating thing to go through. Hopefully we're all on our way though Smile

Hello. This is my first time ever joining an online discussion but I googled Nuffield ivf diet and found this current group, it's nice to read about ladies going through this at the same time as me. I am just about to start my 3rd ICSI cycle (2 failed at Oxford - nothing to freeze). I am 35, low ovarian reserves and OH sperm isn't great (clumping together apparently and with my low number of eggs ICSI is required).

I got mixed messages on the diet from the different nurses I have spoken to. I am going to up my protein, lower my carbs and try my best but i think I will struggle to stick to it all the time. Do you think the odd pizza or chocolate bar will really make any difference? I will do anything to help this work but also a little treat occasionally will make the process a bit easier. Also they said they don't recommend the milk anymore (I had implications last week).

MotherFeeder · 10/02/2017 07:57

Hi Sunday, I am unsure what the ivf diet is as I'm waiting for my referral but when I've spoken with fertility nurses they've suggested high protein and low carbs (stay away from white carbs like rice, white pasta etc)
You want to stay away from sugar (I'm addicted) and stick to low GI foods like brown rice, sweet potatoes etc
I personally don't think the odd pizza will harm you or the process but then I did conceive my DS on my birthday after a lot of vino!!
I've also been told that if you're diet is good the only supplements you need to take are folic acid and vit D.
Good luck xx
