Hello. Looking for other ladies (or men!) who are IVF cycling with the Victoria Wing at Nuffield Woking either privately or NHS to share what happens, how it's going, any tips (what's the car parking like?!), to support one another and success stories of course. My stats:
Geeup
Aged 34
Ttc #1 for 22 cycles so far (4 with Clomid)
OH has low morphology MFI (but it's varied)
NHS cycle - first appt 31st Jan with Dr Riddle
One question to get us going, anyone know what the policy is about having 2 embryos put in on first cycle? Thanks!

And no side effects at all from down reg drugs yet. Apart from maybe feeling a bit down just before my break through bleed but that's normal PMT for me.

Perfect I would think same whatever appointments they give is fine I just like to know roughly what to expect so I don't book too many things in around that time. We have a holiday in may so I think we're prob best to start after that holiday which will be my June cycle. were torn whether to cancel the holiday and just do it asap. Difficult one!
Glad you have had no side effects, VW sounds like they really look after you.

Kimmy82 · 15/03/2017 16:03

Darcy: really happy they have managed to speed up the process a bit for you, really great!
Everything follows in the order you have listed above, yes, the egg collection day can be changed based on what they see on the progress scans.
Other side effects than the rash? I have headaches, my skin is super dry and I feel tired but I haven't been off from work, I try to keep strong.

Drinkyourmilk: such positive example to keep us all going!!!:)

Geeup: I injected the first dose of Menopur last night, i am a bit worried as when I opened the water I lost a few drops + when I was pulling up the solution I pressed a bit the injection before inserting and lost few more tiny drops...it's such a small amount the 150 iu, it was hardly 0.5 ml in the injection...hope it was enough, I will be more careful tonight! Can't waste it as I only have enough until my next scan on Monday!

Kimmy82 · 15/03/2017 16:05

btw the breakthrough bleed still hasn't stopped?? I think today is the 8th day:(

Tee4me · 15/03/2017 16:59

Hi all,
God I can't believe I've stumbled across this thread! I've been looking at private ivf treatment at Nuffield Woking, I'm pretty local!
We have been ttc since December 2015. I do already have a DS who will be 5 in September 2017. I should also mention that I have had 2 bfps which led to MC/MMC in this time. One very early (5 weeks) and the other (missed), discovered at an 8 week early scan.
DH had an SA which came back normal-good, so I feel like I'm the problem, despite my initial tests (bloods & internal scan) all looking normal too. I suffer with lots of cramps throughout my cycle though which has always worried me.
I have been on baby aspirin for a year.

I know plenty of people will think I'm being dramatic considering ivf given this history, but I'm feeling very pessimistic about conceiving again (successfully) naturally. I don't plan to initiate anything until later in the year (as we approach 2 years ttc), but I really want to start planning, money wise and preparing myself mentally.
I can't find anything on the website re. cost. Would anyone be able to give me a ball park figure at what we might be looking at? I know there are lots of varying factors, drugs required etc, but a very rough estimate would be hugely helpful as I have no idea at all at this stage.

Good luck to all going through this nerve wracking process. I feel anxious about needing fertility treatment, but it is giving me hope that things could happen quickly at least?? I am very impressed by their success rate!

Thanks for reading my waffle... I'm CD1 today so feeling emotional/anxious and down right depressed right now! In search of hope for the year ahead x

drinkyourmilk · 15/03/2017 17:55

Hi Tee and welcome to the thread. We had straight ivf, not ICSI, long protocol. Got all drugs from the Nuffield and it cost circa £8,000 for us. That's including freezing our remaining emby for 2 years.

drinkyourmilk · 15/03/2017 17:57

Kimmy I think you will be fine with that injection, it's such a small amount to loose. I was always worried I hadn't sucked up all the liquid in the bottles -but it was fine.
I can't remember what happened with my breakthrough bleed. Think it was same as normal -so 5/6 days. Maybe give them a call? The nurses were always on hand to answer any questions we had.

Tee4me · 15/03/2017 18:01

Thanks so much @drinkyourmilk! I gather you were successful? First time? If so many congratulations, I bet you are delighted!!
Is that cost just for 1 round, so if you need 2/3, another £8k each?

drinkyourmilk · 15/03/2017 18:13

It depends on how many embryos you end up with. We were told that they generally only transfer 1 at a time, so if you have 4x5d embryos then you have a fresh transfer and then pay for 3x fets which is much cheaper. (No ideals of cost though- will hopefully find out this time next year!) No need to do a fresh cycle.
yes, we were really lucky with our first round. Being induced this coming Sunday!

Tee4me · 15/03/2017 18:24

Wonderful news! Lovely to hear success stories.
Really appreciate the heads up on cost. Better get saving! Sounds like a great team @ Woking x

Kimmy82 · 15/03/2017 20:00

Darcy, everything is exactly how you have listed, they tell u the scan dates in advance and I believe the egg collection day may change based on how you respond to stimulation. You asked about other side effects, I feel tired and have headaches also my skin is very dry.

Geeup, last night when I started the menopur I lost half of the water as I haven't realized half wasn't coming down to the bottom so i had less water for the powder I was a bit worried about this but I was thinking the powder is the most important water is just water . I only have enough to last until my next scan so i was more careful tonight.

Drink your milk, really great to hear all ok with you, this really gives us hope !

Kimmy82 · 15/03/2017 20:03

Sorry everyone it didn't show my previous message so I literally repeated everything please ignore

Kimmy82 · 15/03/2017 20:09

Tee4me welcome to the thread I'm glad you found us, I only joined last week so both new :)

Drink your milk thanks for your advice, I will give them a call if I'm still bleeding tomorrow.

Tee4me · 15/03/2017 20:44

Thanks for the welcome! I've just been catching up with your stories... looks like you, Darcy & Geeup and really in the thick of things, how exciting!! Really hope you all have success. I didn't realise how many steps there are in the process. I will be following your stories carefully and with lots of interest!
I don't think I would kick anything off until at least around September time, but it's giving me hope to get fully informed.

Did any of you ladies try aspirin while ttc? I started it last March as I heard it could prevent future miscarriage, and help with implantation. A year later I'm worried about the long term affects. Found a theory online that it can affect ovulation. Thinking of reducing to every other day or stopping altogether.

drinkyourmilk · 15/03/2017 23:09

Tee, I'm not sure how reliable this info is- but I've heard of ladies being given progesterone in cases of recurrent miscarriages. Might be worth talking to your GP?

Tee4me · 16/03/2017 07:23

Good point! It's definitely worth a mention at my appointment, thanks!

NorthSouth85 · 16/03/2017 11:31

Hi Everyone,

Hope you don't mind me joining in!

I'm 31 OH is 31, we have been ttc since January 2014 and had a mmc in May 2014.

Since then we did 6 rounds of clomid on the NHS (even though I already ovulated on my own), and 2 privately funded cycles with IMSI at the Lister Clinic in London which were unsuccessful. OH sample was fine in all aspects, but we opted for a DNA fragmentation test which came up borderline so they recommended IMSI.

Our NHS insists on you ttc for 3 years before referring you for IVF. So we have just completed our referral forms last week which were sent to Woking Nuffield.

They are currently saying there will be a 6-8 weeks wait for an appointment. Can anyone who has had an NHS funded cycle tell me if they send the appointment out quite quickly or is there a wait for that too?

At the Lister the down regging was with a nasal spray and not injections so Woking's approach will be new to me, hopefully in a good way! I was also on Gonal F not Menopour. I responded well but the quality of the embryo's wasn't great when we got to our day 5 transfers. With an Early Blast and compacting morula on both occasions.

Our last consultation with them was still positive and they didn't advise on changing anything, they just wanted us to try again.

Were hoping being at a new clinic with a fresh new approach will be the ticket for us!

Tee4me · 16/03/2017 12:22

Hi @NorthSouth85.
Sounds like you have been through a long hard slog. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with much of the terminology or processes yet, you have been trying for a year longer than me, but just wanted to chirp in to say I hope this new direction will be the key to your success. It's great that you and DH are still SO young. You at least have time on your side.
Out of interest, did your MMC affect your referral for help? I've had x1 very early MC and x1 MMC within my 15 months ttc. I'm going to my GP on 30th to see if I can be referred for investigations, but I wonder if they will see these 2 pregnancies as some kind of success?

NorthSouth85 · 16/03/2017 14:08

Tee4me

Thanks for the comment!

My MMC didn't affect it at all, apparently you have to have 3 miscarriages before they will start investigations. Why they think its acceptable for one person to go through it 3 times I don't know.

I did pay for some tests at the Lister clinic one for Thyroid Function and another called Thrombophylia (Sticky Blood) to see if my body was rejecting a pregnancy, however they all came back normal.

They do see the fact that you have got pregnant naturally as a positive. There's no harm in asking though.

geeup · 16/03/2017 14:36

Hi northsouth. Sorry to hear you've been having such a difficult journey but welcome aboard! Hope Victoria Wing can get you that much longer for successful birth.

OP posts:
Tee4me · 16/03/2017 16:44

Oh that's interesting you can pay for a 'sticky blood' test! I may look into that. I've been on aspirin for a year on the off chance that was my problem, but I feel uneasy about taking it for so long, I read it can hinder ovulation. Would be great if I could at least rule that out and confidently bin those!!

NorthSouth85 · 16/03/2017 17:52

Geeup thanks hopefully I will get my appointment soon and it can be third time lucky!

Tee4me it's not a cheap test, I think it was around £450 but it was worth air just to rule it out!

Kimmy82 · 16/03/2017 18:01

Welcome Northsouth! I have been referred by the NHS late December and the clinic contacted me in January I had my initial consultation on the 9th February. I think can't say there's a certain period for getting appointments depends how busy period it is. They are great so far all I can say.

NorthSouth85 · 17/03/2017 10:50

Kimmy82

That's good to hear, hopefully it wont be too long a wait! We want to get a holiday booked but I would like to have an idea if when the appointments will be first!

geeup · 17/03/2017 11:43

Hi north. Good idea to get your holiday in when you know your appointments. Victoria Wing don't recommend flying after embryo transfer during 2ww and if you're successful, not for first trimester.
