Hello. Looking for other ladies (or men!) who are IVF cycling with the Victoria Wing at Nuffield Woking either privately or NHS to share what happens, how it's going, any tips (what's the car parking like?!), to support one another and success stories of course. My stats:
Geeup
Aged 34
Ttc #1 for 22 cycles so far (4 with Clomid)
OH has low morphology MFI (but it's varied)
NHS cycle - first appt 31st Jan with Dr Riddle
One question to get us going, anyone know what the policy is about having 2 embryos put in on first cycle? Thanks!

Hi Tee, sorry no experience of IUI here. Is it worth having a consultation with one of the consultants and see what they think? What's your history, have you been referred by your GP?

Just had two embryos transferred this morning. Had acupuncture before and after and now home sitting on the sofa with my feet up, via the shop to buy pineapple juice and Brazil nuts. Trying to do everything "right" this time!!

Flamingo44 · 15/05/2017 15:35

Hi,

Tee4me sorry I don't have any IUI knowledge or experience either. But maybe as Moggle said you should set up a consultation at the clinic and see what they say?

Moggle how exciting! Keeping everything crossed for you for a sticky one or two?!

I'm currently on holiday in Crete and start my buserelin injections tomorrow! Hoping this little break will make me nice and relaxed for everything.

BeePositive · 15/05/2017 15:42

Sorry tee4me, I'm not clued up on IUI. Hope you can get some more answers.

Fingers crossed moggle. Sounds like you're chilling nicely and doing everything "right". Wishing you lots sticky dust!

Enjoy Crete flamingo. Know you have your baseline scan at end of month, so enjoy relaxing ahead of that next milestone.

BeePositive · 15/05/2017 15:44

Any news on dentist plans mrsdarcy?

geeup · 15/05/2017 16:24

Sorry tee. I'm another with no personal experience of IUI. I did look into it but understood it's only really recommended for people who have issues with penetrative sex e.g. trauma or erectile disfunction as it just gets the sperm past the cervix. In that respect it only really improves your chances similar to timed intercourse with triggered ovulation (as they monitor your cycle). Just make sure you're clear on if/how it can increase your chances based on your individual medical issues.
Moggle - congrats on being PUPO!! How long are you planning to take it easy for? I did feet up for three days last time but afterwards heard some people think it's better to be active due to blood flow to the womb. So confusing!! Also do you take aspirin as well as pineapple or just pineapple? Wasn't sure if you could/should do both.

OP posts:
BeePositive · 15/05/2017 16:35

I think keeping active after ET day seems sensible geeup because of the blood flow logic. I munched my way through pineapple both times and took Aspirin for 2nd/FET. Unfortunately no magic combination, as I was unsuccessful both times. But I with my next cycle, I plan to be more active, and take both pineapple and baby aspirin again. Here's hoping!

Have you got dates for your 2nd cycle yet?

moggle · 15/05/2017 17:14

I can only have today with feet up! Work tomorrow and weds (just sitting at computer - much more relaxing than looking after a toddler). Then a day with DD and another day at work on Friday. I don't do much exercise at the mo but am planning some gentle evening walks along the canal - so yes I think being gently active is the way forward - or whatever you are used to. No aspirin here.

geeup · 15/05/2017 18:09

Sounds sensible moggle.
Bee - no hard dates yet but hoping to have the scratch (have decided I'm going to pay to have it) in about two weeks then start downregging two days later. So probably egg collection end of June and transfer in early July. Will know more when clinic email me to confirm.

OP posts:
MrsDarcy4092 · 16/05/2017 07:33

Good luck moggle.
Have a fab holiday flamingo.
Geeup sounds like we could be down regging around the sound time. I'm due day 1 today or tomorrow so should be starting 7th or 8th June. I'm feeling crazy hormonal today :-/
Bee - do you have any dates yet?

I saw that consultant surgeon last week for my "sinus mass" he said he doesn't think it's anything serious but will try and find out what it is before we start ivf. So I have an MRI tomorrow evening and then may need a ct scan. So for now we're ploughing on as if we will still start ivf in June . My thyroid has also gone back up to 3.6 and needs to be below 2 so they've increased by thyroxine and need my next blood test to be 2 or below in order to start. Could be close to the wire!!

BeePositive · 16/05/2017 09:44

Sounds like lots going on mrsdarcy but that you have a plan of action for each. Hope all those stars align for you! Keep us posted on what comes back from scans, hopefully something minor they can just whip out, like I had.

No dates for me just yet. I've got follow up consultation with Dr Chandra next week Thursday, and see what her thoughts are around cycle 3. And what additional options I might have. If AF arrives on time, I'd start Day 21 (for me it's Day 18 with shorter cycle) but that would also be around middle June.

geeup sounds like your and mrsdarcy dates will be just a couple of weeks ahead of mine, even with the scratch. Did Victoria Wing advocate that, or was it something you had to push for? Do they do it in Woking as part of your treatment? I'm very interested clearly in anything that might help us ladies!!

MrsDarcy4092 · 16/05/2017 12:02

Thank you Bee. If we have to postpone for a month or 2 we will but just hoping not to.

We're also at VW next Thursday for implications. Day one came for me today so day 21 5th June. They will give me treatment plan next Thursday But am I right in thinking it will be roughly this...

milk - that's reassuring to hear your mf too and had such good success!

I know I'm a pain but can i just check if I've got this right for long protocol which VW said I will be on-

2 weeks of down reg starting day 21 then a scan to check lining is thin and no cysts - is this exactly 2 weeks later?

Then stims for 2 weeks with scans to check progress of follicles? How many scans generally?

Then trigger injection and ec next day? On day 14?

Then egg transfer 3-5 days later?

Have I got it right? Just trying to sort my work diary a little now.

I hope your appointment with Chandra goes well, sometimes it helps just to have a plan.

MrsDarcy4092 · 16/05/2017 12:04

Oh sorrry I cut and pasted and forgot to delete some. Sorry for confusing post. Mums net is hard on a mobile!!

Flamingo44 · 16/05/2017 12:21

Hi MrsDarcy that is roughly right for the long protocol, although from my treatment plan it seems like they stretch things out a little where necessary so that things (scans, egg collection and egg transfer) only happen on Monday's Wednesday's and Friday's...therefore it's hard to work it all out accurately beforehand. But they will give you the full cycle dates on Thursday.
I have 15 days of down regging before my baseline scan, then 11 planned days of stimming with 3 scans. Hope that helps!

geeup · 16/05/2017 14:07

Bee - VW/my consultant were clear they don't recommend the scratch as it's currently unproven but I pushed for it as I understand the NHS is currently doing clinical trials on women doing their second cycle with it. As a result they said I can do it but i pay for it as an extra.

OP posts:
BeePositive · 16/05/2017 15:05

Interesting geeup and good for you pushing if it's something you want to go for. I'll see what they say as I'm thinking about the PGS testing too. Willing to try anything in hope! Great you can be part of a trial hopefully getting some real and positive stats behind this treatment.

We may pass in the waiting rooms/corridors next Thursday mrsdarcy! Your projected timings look accurate. I've always had a baseline scan, and then 3 scans in run up to EC. Good luck getting your cycle plan dates.

geeup · 16/05/2017 17:29

Oh just to be clear bee I wouldn't be part of the trial. I'd just be paying for it as an add on like a private patient.

OP posts:
BeePositive · 16/05/2017 20:00

Ah I see. Makes sense geeup. Thanks for clarifying Wink

moggle · 19/05/2017 13:17

They aren't involved in the scratch trial at VW. I had a chat with Mr R about it, he's pessimistic about the trial showing a significant difference with the scratch because a lot of women in the trial (in the south east, I guess) randomised to no scratch have been calling VW to get one done privately, so the groups will not end up comparing scratch with no-scratch.

He recommended to scratch to me after our run of FETs with no pregnancy to show for it, but was clear that there's currently there's no hard scientific evidence for the effect. He must believe there may be an effect though else he wouldn't be performing them at all.

geeup · 19/05/2017 13:30

That's really interesting moggle. Really glad I'm giving it a go now. Thanks.

Hi all. It's seems like so much time has gone by as I have been waiting for my implications appointment, luckily it's tomorrow so not to long to go. I phoned VW this morning to check they had OH results from the hospital and they had. I asked them if I should come off the pill, they said no as I am going to be on the long protocol now instead of the short. I'm confused, has this happened to any of you? I'm sure they will clarify tomorrow.

Thank mrsdarcy and flamingo on the timelines for the long protocol above. That has helped me see what to expect.

geeup · 22/05/2017 22:28

Sorry bumble I've only done long protocol and doing long again this time. Hope you get some answers.

OP posts:
8um8le8ee · 24/05/2017 08:38

Hi all.

tee4me my friend had iui, she had a cyst on one side of her ovaries so when she ovulated from the clear side she had the procedure and it worked. Unfortunately she did miscarry early on, she had another go and it worked. She is now on baby no 2 and this one was conceived naturally. I think it best to get the professionals to advice the most effective option for you, but it is good to research what your options are.

I'm trusting VW with putting me on the long protocol although everything I read doesn't add up as I have a low AMH it's 6. So yesterday I was given my plan and will continue on the pill and overlap the last couple of pills with buserlin. Then I'll have a bleed 2 weeks later, have my baseline scan and start menopur for a week and then it will be time for 2 weeks, then it is egg collection. My plan seems different to what you have described mrsdarcy and flamingo44 as I'm not waiting on a bleed as they have started me on the pill.

I'm really excited now to start this roller coaster and am just focusing on one stage at a time.

Good luck to us all. X

Flamingo44 · 24/05/2017 08:51

It's great to have a plan 8um8le...even if it's different from the one you were expecting!! I thought it the long protocol was good if you had a low AMH (mine is also quite low at 10)...but maybe I'm wrong!

I'm waiting for my AF to show. It was due yesterday...I know the buserelin injections can delay it...can anyone give me any advise on how late theirs was? Really wanted it to be over the worst before my weekend camping trip! Plus I don't want to have to delay my baseline scan and treatment.

geeup · 24/05/2017 18:07

Flamingo was AF was a few days late when I was on the buserlin. It's annoying but normal.

OP posts:
Flamingo44 · 24/05/2017 20:30

Thanks Geeup I'm keeping my fingers crossed it comes in the next day or 2 as my baseline scan is next Wednesday.

How is everyone else getting on?
