We have relocated from the conception board where we were previously chatting under the thread 'ttc for 10 months or more'. A lot of us are now long term ttc-ers and are going through infertility treatment or looking to take steps in this direction so we feel this might be a more suitable home for us!

Feel free to stop by and say hi and hopefully we can share the journey together and make it a little easier along the way!

maple do you have a timeline to start? I would ask about the trial at your clinic as I can't see why it would increase chances for people on 2nd+ rounds and not 1st. If I get chosen I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow lucie congrats on the bfp - that's awesome news and thats good going to have made it through 8 cycles without work knowing!

Thank you, I'm 21 weeks this weekend. Had our 20 week scan this week and all was well which was a relief. You will get there if you persevere. More often than not it takes a few attempts just like trying naturally. Wishing you all lots of luck.

Hoping you will have all graduated by then!

Hi all - I wanted to say hello and ask if I can join please. I know blue from another thread and hope it's ok to join you to start understanding whats coming next for us. I'm 34, cycle 21, 4th on clomid but my DH has MFI so we've been referred for ivf. Clinic says we should have our first appointment by end of Feb and hopefully we'll cycle in March.
I'm sorry it's been such a tricky road for all of you so far.

Welcome geeup of course you can join, you are always welcome here.

Sounds like you will be on similar time frame to some of us here, we can all help each other through!

I have found the ladies on here so supportive and helpful and i'm sure you will find that too.

Will you be having ICSI as it is MFI, or is that something you find out at your appointment in Feb?

Report
geeup · 07/01/2017 23:00

I think I'll find out at the appointment but I believe we'll get ICSI as my DHs SA vary between 1-3% morphology. Wonder if we'll be allowed to do half ivf and half ICSI with the NHS?

Report
Hope2409 · 08/01/2017 10:23

I'm not sure with the NHS i guess it depends on your area and clinic but its worth asking if its something you want to try.
We have MF and are doing ICSI with all as they feel that is what will give us the best chance.
Does your DH take any vitamins? X

Hi gee :) glad you found us. I know it sounds terrible but with all the newbies on the other thread I was finding it difficult when people would get their Bfp on like cycle 3. Nice to be with other ladies who know what it feels like to have month after month of ttc and not getting there.

We have MFI (low count) and our NHS dr said they might do half ICSI/half IVF depending on dh's result on the day. If it's too low they will do all ICSI.

My dh isn't on any vitamins. Does anyone know of any that help with low count?

Report
Rosieroo123 · 08/01/2017 11:03

Hi Bluebird

I thought that vitamins could help with count and motility but it was morphology which was the hardest to improve? I may be wrong though!

AFM we have second SA next week then we are hoping to get referred fairly soon afterwards! My DH has been on well man conception since our last SA result which was fairly bad (well I think it is we haven't seen anyone to talk about it properly but lost count of how many times the GP said sorry when he told DH about it).

Hope everyone's having a good new year so far!

Hi all
Blue - I totally get it. There's been a huge influx of newbies in the other thread and it's hard not to feel irritated and very old and tired when people with one or two periods behind them start stressing about "whys it taking so long". I suspect like you it's time for me to migrate here. Thanks for having me!
For all the MFI crew, we went to see the UKs leading urologist Dr Jonathan Ramsay - privately last year (google him). My DH was on every random pill I'd read about on the internet - fertilaid, vit c, pycnogenol etc - but Dr Ramsay said just to take Proxeed Plus twice a day so we've given up everything else and now he just takes that. He prefers it as hated the pills. I sometimes want to add stuff and then I remember that Proxeed has clinically proven results and I have to have faith it'll do as much as anything.
The only thing I wish he'd do is limit his drinking a bit more but it's January so we're doing dry-ish January. Hope it's in time to help our first cycle!

Hope when are you expecting to receive the report?

Welcome gee! Maybe we will cycle around a similar time, although I'm likely to be April / May. I also know what you mean about the conception board - I used to lurk a bit over there and then realised this board was much more suited for me. It's not a nice place to be but it is with others knowing what you are going through if you see what I mean!

Rosie I have my DH on wellman vits and think it has helped a bit, hope the SA is ok this week.

AFM AF finally came after 10 days of spotting on CD36! Have called the hospital and waiting to hear back if they can get an appointment for dummy embryo transfer and 3DSIS soon - blood tests tomorrow too.

Rosieroo123 · 09/01/2017 11:12

Well ladies I'm not sure how the latest SA will turn out! DH hates doing them - he says the pressure is ridiculous (when I have multiple probes etc in my vagina and have to stab myself during the future IVF process I think he will see he got off lightly!)!

So we took the Erm (Possibly TMI warning!!) dribble in its little pot tried to dash through the traffic to get it to the hospital within the hour (appointments at 9am on a Monday morning aren't the most intelligent idea the labs have had when you have to take a fresh sample there). We arrived at the hospital - car parking machine broken - it told us to trek God knows how far to get a ticket - by now already slightly stressed from the traffic and 9am appointment I decided to risk it - we went to the place we went last time to find out the testing area had moved! Eventually we got there and DH signed the forms and off it went.

The last sample had low volume - this one is definitely worse! But they only need a bit to look at the motility and morphology etc I guess! If it's not good enough I'm going to pay for a private test if it beats the 9 week wait for SA on the NHS! I can't see the results improving that much as I've been told morphology is hard to improve. But I guess we will wait and see what happens!

maple I hope you get your appointment soon! I didn't realise they did a dummy run first! So much to learn!

Hope everyone's ok!

Goodness Rosie sounds stressful - did you make it in the hour?!
Haha I know what you mean about how the men seem to get off lightly with that side of things! DH won't help with the jabs either (he stared horrified when I did them for iui!). Equally it must be hard not being able to do anything when we are getting jabbed, probed etc.
DH still has to do a semen culture and she told me that she will give me a pot but I'm confused as they have a lab where he has done his deposits in a special room before so not sure why he can't do it there? I'm thinking they aren't looking at the sperms really so maybe they don't mind if they are dying off!

I got my appointments! Blood test tomorrow, another Antral follicle count on Wednesday and then dummy run and 3DSIS on thursday. Hope that's it for now so when cycling eventually comes round I don't have to do anything else!

Rosieroo123 · 09/01/2017 15:56

We literally made with about 10 minutes to spare maple - the guy asked whether DH had done the sample so I'm sure they have a room too but no ones told us about it. If he has to do another one I will ask whether we can just use a room! I suppose we got the sample there and didn't get a parking ticket so it all turned out OK in the end!

Glad you have all of your tests and a dummy run arranged. What's 3DSIS? Guessing 3 day something or other? I just want my first appointment with the actual Consultant to get the rest of the ball rolling now! It's one big waiting game!

Sure you know this already Rosie but a SA at Create is £95 and you get results the same day supposedly (but for both of ours we got them the next day). Worth a try in the future if that works for you location wise?

Report
Rosieroo123 · 09/01/2017 16:38

Thanks maple i didn't know about Create. I think the hospital offer it for £60ish. I asked when I had to wait the first time but decided I was just being inpatient anyway! However the further along you get into this waiting game it's very easy to be frustrated with the system. I shouldn't complain too much because we are lucky it's even an option on the NHS! We will see what happens when we get the results of the next sample!

Maple they said our report could take up to 6 weeks because of the Christmas and New Year break, 6 weeks is up on the 20th Jan so if havent had anything by then will have to chase them up!
Even if it doesnt shed any light on why it failed i would just feel better having that report and appointment booked to discuss our next cycle.

Rosie sounds like a stressful start to a monday morning! I remember those days rushing to get the sample there in time, always ended up struggling to park and ended up practically running to get there within the hour!
Thankfully we only had to do it twice, once we were referred he could do it at the clinic which was much easier and less stressful, for me anyway!

The men do get off lightly with regards to what they have to do but i think some do get quite worked up about it, has anyone read the book Get a life?
There is a traumatic chapter about how the man struggled to produce his sample, after reading it i did feel quite sorry for him!

Hope the blood test goes well tomorrow Maple

Xxx

Radio 5 live are doing an hour now on MFI if anyone's interested and can turn on

Report
maplebaby · 10/01/2017 15:02

I shan't take credit for gee's info on create Rosie!

3DSIS is basically like a hycosy but they're not checking tubes. It uses saline solution and takes 3D images to assess the uterine cavity.

Not long till 20th then hope. Must feel like ages to wait - it's all we seem to do! Blood test was fine thanks, I always bruise though Sad

Thanks gee! I don't have MFI but interested to hear what they say if I could switch on! Let me know what they discuss!
