We have relocated from the conception board where we were previously chatting under the thread 'ttc for 10 months or more'. A lot of us are now long term ttc-ers and are going through infertility treatment or looking to take steps in this direction so we feel this might be a more suitable home for us!

Feel free to stop by and say hi and hopefully we can share the journey together and make it a little easier along the way!

shuffles in
So, err, hello. This is my first EVER mumsnet post. You ladies have made me see how safe a space and how valuable it can be so I am giving it a go. I have been following this thread and others and I have found them so helpful. You all sound awesome and I want you all to get pregnant as much as I want me to get pregnant! (Well, almost as much :p)

I am 35 and have a DD who is 3 - so I know I am super lucky. We have been TTC no 2 for 18months now. I had a MMC 12 months ago so that is 12months of trying with nothing. Doc says we are basically unexplained and next step is IVF.

So in a slightly all about me way I have two questions!

My big question - how long would you keep trying before moving to IVF? Especially if money were no object, how would you answer that question? Obviously money matters, but if you were making a decision on the situation alone?

And my smaller question - what options do I have for lying to work about IVF?! I would tell my boss as I think I have to really, but don't want to tell anyone else. They will notice my absences though and will assume I am pregnant, because everyone in my office is pregnant. Obviously that would be rubbish in the circumstances! So can I claim I have physio appointments? Any other type of appointments?!

Thanks so much in advance for your help. And really hope everyone is doing okay. Good luck to all those at important stages at the moment. Hope I haven't messed up my first post or offended anyone X

Hey user, welcome and congrats on your first post! Sorry you find yourself here but this is a great thread with lots of lovely ladies and helpful advice! If it were me and I were 35 and had been trying for 12 months with no joy I would be looking to move to IVF ASAP. At your age you should have a pretty good chance of success with it.

I haven't told anyone at work about my treatment and I've done a lot! I'm lucky that we have a good flexi system so when I've had appts for scans etc I've just said I will be starting a bit later. If anyone asks why I've said a whole host of things, doctors, dentist, deliveries etc. I've only had to have 2-3 scans per treatment though. When it comes to egg collection and transfer I have taken a days annual leave. Sometimes I have also taken a couple of extra days in the 2ww. It's maybe not the easiest way to do things but it works for me as its not something I want to share with my work colleagues or even my manager.

FX for nice high levels Lucie!

Welcome User. We had our first IVF privately after trying for 18 months (was 34 at the time). If you can afford to I would make a start sooner rather than later as the time between initial consultation and treatment can still be a little while.

Re time off work I told my boss what was happening, he is really understanding and just said to do what I need to do. I've used a mixture of annual leave/sick leave/coming in a bit late/leaving a bit early. I'm really lucky that I work a 10 minute walk from the hospital where we are having treatment at the moment. I just tell colleagues I have a hospital appointment, no one has said anything, no idea what they think I am up to.

loopylou1984 · 21/09/2016 14:45

Good luck with your results Lucie, you're braver than me!

Welcome user! I used to just say doctors or appointment and not offer anything else. People may have thought pregnant for a few months, but it soon became apparent that I wasn't and ego knows what they thought then!
Like Lucie id say get cracking with the IVF. You don't know how long it will take and so the sooner the better. It was three attempts for me to get a bfp and so I wished I'd started earlier. Xx

friends123 · 21/09/2016 15:14

Hey. Hope all are okay? Good luck with the results Lucie. I think I would have had it done too.

Maple. Not sure if it could be something similar but I always got watery cm just before AF. Hope you can get started again soon.

Welcome user. I was a bit like the others, although I didn't get to IVF all my appointments so far have been kept private from work and I've just used holidays.

How you getting on now Mrs Ren? Banana?
Well I feel like I've lost all my symptoms. My boobs are no longer sore or anything. I've also had a strange discharge, which has been slightly orange only small amounts but that's surely not normal? I tried to ring my doctors but the receptionist didn't think it warranted an appointment and said the midwife won't see you until 8.5 weeks. Confused

maplebaby · 21/09/2016 15:57

Welcome user you're in the best place here! I haven't got to the IVF stage yet but I would tell my boss - one of them already knows so covers for me if needed for my IUI but I'm lucky everything is so flexible and sometimes people are so busy they don't notice I'm gone!

If it comes to IVF then I would definitely tell my main boss - I know she would be really supportive.

I have a scan on Friday morning to see what's happening up there!

MrsRen · 21/09/2016 16:31

Welcome user I would also investigate IVF straight away :-)

Friends - try not to worry everything I've read suggests a bit of pink/brown/funny coloured discharge is normal - though be pushy if it's really concerning you. How far along are you? I think we must be at a similar stage.

I'm ok, drinking and going to the loo a lot! Bit tired and sometimes a bit breathless after walking up the stairs - random! Still taking one day at a time and trying not to do too much in terms of lifting or over exerting myself.

MrsRen · 21/09/2016 16:32

Good luck with the scan Maple x

friends123 · 21/09/2016 16:54

I'm just 6 weeks on Friday. I'm going to go for a private scan at 7 weeks but it seems like forever away. I never thought i'd be hoping for morning sickness and my sore boobs back Thanks for the reassuring words MrsRen.
