Hello ladies, I'm new here. About to have first IUI treatment the day after tomorrow. Anyone else in the same situation. This is our first go at IUI after trying on and off for about 7years. Was on chlomid for 9 months last year with no luck. So now trying IUI. Excited and scared at the same time!!

eeek, that is very exciting. the procedure is fine. the nurse couldn't find my uterus!! it was hiding, so that was a bit uncomfortable but she got the consultant and he found it instantly and I didnt feel anything. she said my bladder was too empty so don't go for a wee before hand!! I had to lie down for about ten minutes afterwards but felt fine. good luck xxx

Thanks Maryrose. Just did the trigger shot (well, DH did the trigger shot for me- I'm too chicken). I made him check he was doing it right again and again. I really don't want anything to mess this up!

karlafox · 06/08/2015 18:37

So been for my day 3 scan today. They said one of my ovaries either had a very small cyst or the remnants of a follicle she'll left from last month but since AF is still lurking it is too early to tell so they started me on the injections again and then I have to go back on day 8 for another scan... So hoping that like last month I have some nice juicy follicles there!
How's everyone else doing?

HonniBee · 07/08/2015 17:44

IUI all done and dusted! The nurse said my husband's sample was the best she'd ever seen! You should have seen his face- the smuggest grin plastered all over him. The count was 200 million, 92% motility and the morphology was 5%. So looking very positive.
I found the procedure itself uncomfortable, and when the actual catheter went up, a little sore. Apparently I have a posterior cervix, so it was a little tricky to locate at first. But all is good, and I've had tea and cake. Now horizontal on the couch with mumsnet and a book, so all in all a good day! Smile

karla how are the injections going ?
maryrose have you finished your move?
Anyone else got news?

Maryrose85 · 07/08/2015 17:56

That's great Honnibee! now just to wait! and eat cake!! move is pretty much all done. just a few bits still to collect from the in laws place. I honestly can't remember the last time I felt properly happy. Maybe that will help the next round of treatment, if I'm more relaxed. Will be thinking of you in the next couple of weeks. xx

How are you doing Honnibee? hope you're managing to find distractions! xx

OP posts:
HonniBee · 10/08/2015 22:32

Hi Maryrose. Finding it really hard to distract myself, and not to get too carried away. I've even gone and worked out when I'd be due if it worked! It's hard to get the right balance of optimism without getting your hopes too high?

In other news, we might be moving soon too!! We signed a contract to buy our first house today! Grin
How's your new place? Are you nice and relaxed, ready for your next cycle?

karlafox · 11/08/2015 09:20

Hi guys how are you all?
Quick update from me, just been for day 8 scan and apparently plenty of activity (1.9 and a 1.7cm follicle) so IUI planned for Thursday. Eeek!
Only problem is hubby is having a knee op tomorrow so doubt he's going to be in the mood to produce! But haven't really got much of a choice.
Fingers crossed all goes ok and thinking of everyone else too!
????

HonniBee · 11/08/2015 13:16

Excellent news, Karla!

Those sound like a good size for day 8. Sorry about the bad timing re your husband's op, but I guess we can't plan everything!
Good luck on Thursday, will be good to have a buddy on the wait. Smile

FraggleRock77 · 12/08/2015 13:20

Hello. New to this thread and new to IUI. We have one DS nearly two who took a long time to conceive. Recent miscarriage and again taking a long time to conceive. Is it wrong to use IUI to stop the monthly guess work? I'm nearing 40 and want to pay privately for IUI to stand a better chance x

karlafox · 12/08/2015 17:03

Fragglerock77 welcome to the group. I haven't yet had my first IUI cycle (this was supposed to happen tomorrow but DH has been kept in over night after having a knee op..V frustrating) but I can say that just going through the process makes you feel more positive about things and that you are doing something that in someway sort of rejuvenates the whole journey which is tiring to say the least! We get 3 cycles of IUI on the NHS and then any treatment after this, we will need to pay for so I guess I may at some point be in a similar situation to you in considering all options out there!
HonniBee how is the wait going?

FraggleRock77 · 12/08/2015 17:07

Thank you KFox. Rejuvenating is a good way to think about it. Sorry to hear you're going to be delayed this month x

HonniBee · 12/08/2015 18:33

Hi Fraggle! Welcome. I've come to IUI as I'm having trouble conceiving at all, so a slightly different situation to yours, but like KarlaFoxx says, the treatment in itself does help you have a bit more hope, and can help you feel more in control.

KarlaFoxx- gutted to hear your husbands been kept in! Does that mean no IUI at all this month? Or could you try for Friday? Did the op go ok?

My wait is torturous. I am literally counting down the days. Luckily we are in the midst of buying a house, so lots to distract me. (Although I do worry that the stress is not good- ironic that I worry about stress!! Confused)

FraggleRock77 · 12/08/2015 19:03

Thanks HBee. Sorry to hear you're having trouble conceiving. I do feel guilty paying privately for IUI when i know i can get pregnant. When do you start your first cycle? X

HonniBee · 12/08/2015 19:15

I'm 5 days past my first treatment, so stuck waiting to find out if it worked! Only 9 more days.

FraggleRock77 · 12/08/2015 19:18

Oh wow. Fingers crossed x

karlafox · 12/08/2015 20:18

HonniBee I'm not sure they can delay until Friday since i did the trigger injection last night so that will mean more than 48 hours if I have IUI on Friday.. Does anyone know if this is a possibility!? Not sure what to say if they give me this as an option as we only get 3 tries so wanted to use them wisely!

HonniBee · 12/08/2015 21:01

Oh dear! I have no idea! Maybe just try yourselves at home? At least you know you've produced eggs and definitely ovulated this month.

Mamama31 · 17/08/2015 11:22

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been awol, just back from hols and have come home to a letter saying we are top of list for siui now. I've to ring on thurs to arrange 2 appointments one for a blood test for DH and I, the other to be shown how to do the injections for treatment. Depending when I get these appointments I could begin treatment either start of sept or end of sept as I think the injections begin at start of new cycle?

Honnibee I see your on the dreaded 2ww. How are you feeling? I hope your doing ok, the wait must be excruciating! Great numbers though with your hubby's super sperm!!! We will be lucky to have 5million after wash! But I just have to keep thinking it only takes one!!!

Hope everyone else is ok, anyone starting soon also??

closephine85 · 17/08/2015 16:39

Hi everyone

Can I join the thread? :) after 2 years trying to conceive a sibling for our son (who took 6 months to conceive) and not a single hint of a pregnancy, we have been offered to start IUI next month.

I wonder if anyone can tell me whether they think natural or stimulated IUI is the way to go? After all the tests they have found nothing wrong with me (not 100% sure I accept this just yet) and a borderline normal sperm count for my husband. As it is my husband they seem to think is the problem, I'm tempted to go for a couple of natural rounds firsts before trying the injections etc. can anyone advise on this?

HonniBee · 17/08/2015 19:58

Hi mamama, welcome back! Sounds like exciting news. I hope you get to start at the beginning of September rather than the end.

My 2ww is torture. I keep wanting to test, but I know I have to wait. Literally counting down the number of sleeps left. Only 5 to go!

Welcome to the thread, Closephine
I didn't know natural IUI is an option! They couldn't find anything in particular wrong with me or my husband. We are doing IUI with clomid, so still stimulated, but not injections. How do they time the IUI if you didn't stimulate? We had to do an injection to force ovulation so that they could time the insemination properly. Personally, I think I would go with stim to give yourself the best possible chances.

Mamama31 · 18/08/2015 10:04

Honnibee I'm sure the wait is just agonising but it is mostly over for you! And well done not testing! I have a feeling my treatment won't start until end of sept as there is a girl ahead of me slightly and she hasn't got an app to show her how to use injectables until quite late in sept so that would rule out my cycle start of sept! I will know more on Thurs when I ring to get my appointments.

Closephine, from what I've read stimulated cycles have a much higher success rate. My clinic only offers siui with injectables but I know clinics vary a lot on the treatment they offer. I have no issues at all, my results are all perfect however DH has had a sample with quite a low count and low morphology and another sample with a moderate count and ok morphology. But we still have to do siui and I'm ok with that if it raises our chances.

cazinge · 18/08/2015 22:04

Sorry for big awol everyone, long weekend away and life took over! Welcome to all our newbies Smile

So, I told my manager today. I think she thought I was going to say I'm pregnant (I wish!) but she was amazing. Basically said nothing at work is important enough that it can't wait/be rescheduled and that she appreciates I have to go when they say & we'll work it out. I luffs her.

Hope you're still feeling ok honni & well done for being so patient waiting to test (keeping everything crossed for you Cake)

cazinge · 18/08/2015 22:19

Closephine - no advice on sperm results etc as we're using a donor but my clinic offered natural iui as I've never tried to conceive and all my bloods were 'normal'. Natural cycles are monitored via urine testing for ovulation and then I think a scan at insemination (at my clinic anyway) but as others have said, no guarantees on the timing. At my clinic, the treatment price difference is only £75 and my drugs will be c. £200. I won't deny that as self funders I thought the better success rate was worth the extra money and was a factor.

Also, due to possible mild pcos and endometriosis we decided stimulated was the right option for us but the clinic would've let me try either first time.
