Our thread was originally started by Rumples who now has her bfp, as have a few other ladies along the way. Here's hoping the next thread holds a few more bfps!

Sorry you're still feeling tired - I'd hoped it would pass but you're right, it is an emotionally exhausting time.

The one she transferred was, apparently, 'very good'. I think I saw her notes say it was 4 cells.

I've had SO many times in the past couple of years when I've been convinced I was pregnant and I wasn't. And given I've already got a son, I thought I knew what it felt like. So I'm determined not to symptom spot this time - easier said than done but hopefully helped by having cramping so early on!

Can I ask, do you still take supplements in the 2ww, like co-enzyme Q10 or omega, or anything else?

lildottie · 13/07/2015 08:27

you and me both shell!! I'm hoping this time my eggs will get their shit together now they know the drill Grin

every day AF isn't here the possibility of a bfp gets stronger. just try and distract yourself Thanks

So I have a question for those unlucky enough to have had failed attempts.
My doctor wants me to have a blood test for oestrogen, progesterone and beta HCG on my OTD (24th).
My question is, if I test negative with a pee stick (as I invariably will, at least the day before), do I still need all these tests? Will they be helpful if I do try again? Or is it just a 'nice to have'?
I ask because it is going to be quite a faff sorting them out, but I will if they are important. I can see why they would be good if I get a BFP, but if I don't...

Shellster52 · 13/07/2015 23:04

When are you starting up again lil. Sorry, I know you've said this before but I've lost track. Feels like you've been waiting for ages. I certainly hope your eggs know the drill this time too. Personally, I swear by quality over quantity. I couldn't increase the number of embryos I produced, but I swear by the high protein low carb diet. Last cycle with only 3 mature eggs, 2 fertilised and both were top quality at day 3 transfer and a brief pregnancy. This time again, 3 mature eggs, 2 fertilise, both top quality at day 3 transfer. Natural pea protein powder for breakfast, almond milk, super greens and cacao for extra vitamins, tin of fish and salad for lunch, veg and fish for dinner, with nutritious snacks like walnuts, almonds or I'd make a batch of mini quiches with tuna and veg so I could have them handy to heat and eat. It's tough when you're stressed about the unknown of IVF and just want comfort food! But studies say it gets 50% of embryos to blast and since you only had 2 alive at day 2, I'm really thinking it will up your chances.

Mif, I used to take those supplements you mention (along with many more!) up until EC. After that, I changed to folic acid, vitamin D, iron with vitamin C to increase absorption and of course the estrogen and progesterone. As for the hCG blood test, my clinic requires it even if I get my period or get a -ive POAS as they need to have an official blood test result for their records after having put an embryo in. I suppose if it was ectopic and we had our tubes burst or something like that and they hadn't checked, they would be legally responsible so they need to cover themselves legally.

lildottie · 14/07/2015 00:36

AF due Sunday shell and I phone on cd1 to find out what day to start bcp. Not sure when I start injecting, mid-late Aug I think, but first sdcan is 9/9 and ec is WC 21/9. Still feels ages away.
I was doing high protein low carb for three months pregnant last ivf and was doing pretty well at it. I'm desperately trying to get back on track atm and failing! Dhs birthday tomorrow so there is cake i n the house -had 2 pieces today. Had weetabix for breakfast, feta and sun dried tomato omelette for lunch and chicvlken chow mein for dinner so its a start.

Sorry I can't help miffy my clinic just tell me to poas and phone them with result. If I poas and its bfn I stop all drugs. I only had a blood test last time because my frer test went from very strong to almost bfn. My hcg was 6 so I knew I was going to mc 4 days before the bleeding started.

That's frustrating then lil that you were doing the high protein low carb and only had 2 alive at day 2 when the study says it increases number of embryos that survive to day 5 to 50%. For me, the embryos from my first two EC's either did not even survive until day 2, or were already poor quality at day 2. I have seen definite improvement since I started the high protein low carb so at least it gave me motivation to continue. So I can understand the lack of motivation. They say to do it for 2 months prior to IVF cycle, but I guess the most important time is during the actual stim phase when the eggs are rapidly growing, so at least just work on it for those two weeks and don't make yourself feel guilty about the rest.

lildottie · 19/07/2015 10:53

so AF is here. looks like I'll definitely be doing round 2 Sad

how are you doing shell?

shell I've just seen your post on other thread. I am so happy for you. congratulations! x

Shellster52 · 20/07/2015 10:14

Boo to natural not working lil and having to go through the drama of IVF again. But I guess on the other hand, good to just get on with it instead of waiting.

I did get a BFP today lil. I thought I would move straight on to stress about m/c after my early m/c last transfer and watching so many on here including you m/c shortly after BFP. But unlike you who POAS, I had a blood test. The nurse said they like to see the HCG number on day 16 after EC at 100-400 and mine is 390 so she said it's strong which gave me some reassurance. All the fish and boring salads feel well worthwhile now as difficult as they were at the time when I felt so stressed/depressed and just wanted comfort food.

I sincerely hope you are next.

bessie84 · 20/07/2015 10:36

mslightyear · 20/07/2015 10:40

I just wanted to say many many congrats Shellster! Such happy news!!

lildottie · 20/07/2015 13:38

Congrats shellster that's amazing news! A positive boost to us all x

Shellster52 · 21/07/2015 04:01

Thank you all so much. The support on here just overwhelms me.

I just replied to your message bessie :)

Very sweet of you to be watching for diet changes and tips on here trying to help your friend lightyear. You sound like a great friend. And very sweet of you to go to the effort of signing up to post a congratulations to me. I wish your friend the very best.

Yes lil. Now I count down again until the scan at 7 weeks. The counting down never ends! But I am not as stressed as I thought I would be now about m/c. So hopefully I will actually enjoy the next 3 weeks instead of all the waiting prior to IVF events which is just all stress!

Laura, haven't heard from you in ages. You were waiting to start your last IVF cycle last time we spoke if I remember correctly?

Laura7883 · 21/07/2015 22:01

Well that's what we thought shellster but DH doesnt have enough decent sperm in any samples so being referred to a urologist in a nearby hospital for micro-testicular biopsy :( Will no doubt take ages and they don't even find sperm in 30% of patients :/

Shellster52 · 22/07/2015 02:33

I assume you're being seen under the NHS Laura and hence the long wait. I am so frustrated by how they like to drag things out. Infertility is already so emotional, and them making the months and years drag on certainly doesn't help! Also, can't remember your age, but most women needing to do IVF aren't young, so the 2 year wait also doesn't help with their IVF success when it finally does happen - and also reduces their chance of giving the first a sibling for when the couple want to try again! Grr, it really frustrates me as I hear all the stories of the women on here.

anroga · 22/07/2015 14:37

After a long time I just thought I would drop in to see how it was going for your girls and Shellster I am so happy to read your good news about a BFP! You really do deserve it and look forward to seeing you join us all on the pregnancy thread!

lildottie · 22/07/2015 20:35

ha shell you can forget ivf siblings over here....NHS won't fund u if either of u has a biological child already! x

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 24/07/2015 05:36

Thanks anroga. I actually did a google search the other day about pregnancy after infertility. It certainly seems different than conceiving naturally and I don't feel like sharing my thoughts and stories with others in RL about this pregnancy because they just won't understand. Hadn't thought that there is a pregnancy thread on here. Sounds like a place where others will understand. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a bit scared at the moment as I had an early miscarriage last time and don't want to get too excited and start chatting about things only to have it fail again. But if I make it to twelve weeks, I'll be there.

lil, so not only does the NHS hinder any chance of a sibling by making you wait until you are over the hill for your first IVF cycle, but they also then don't allow a second. I know of another girl on here who got pregnant with her first IVF cycle and now has several in the freezer at the cost of the NHS. Not sure if she has to pay for the FET cycle but at least it will be cheaper than a fresh cycle. But most people don't get many/any frozen so the NHS really is pants in some regards.

anroga · 24/07/2015 09:46

Shellster I know just what you mean thats why I started one in the pregnancy section as all the other threads were women that has conceived naturally.

The thread is -
I am 7 weeks and 2 days and have any early scan tomorrow (got pregnant through first time ICSI) I am so worried

There are alot of the girls on it that were with us all on Rumples thread.

I know the worry you are going through, I am nearly 30 weeks now but it took me up to that 20 week scan for me to start to relax a bit and enjoy it.

Again I am so pleased for you, wishing all the other girls lots of luck, will get off here now as I remember how annoying/depressing all those emotions it is when someone pops back that has been successful.

JL200 · 26/07/2015 13:52

Hi all hope u don't mind me joining in on this group I have been reading all different threats for about a year now and only today did I decide to join u all on this one, I am day 4 of injecting menopur and day 2 of injecting cetrotide estimated egg collection is this coming Friday but all will be confirmed tomorrow when I attend the clinic for my scan, I'm feeling really nervous and excited at the same time .. X

lildottie · 26/07/2015 23:53

Hi JL. I start injecting on 25/8 so I'm on countdown now!

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 27/07/2015 00:35

Welcome JL! That sounds like an early egg collection - 9 days after starting stims. Those follicles of yours must be growing quickly.

I liked this thread because it's small. With some other threads, there's so many ladies that your comments get overlooked and you can't keep up with what's going on.

I actually just got my BFP after my 11th attempt at IVF. On the one hand, lil has been so lovely and supportive to me that I want to return the favor and be around for her cycle, On the other hand, I feel like anroga describes - that I am just another one of those pregnant ladies that is annoying to you.

lildottie · 27/07/2015 08:09

shell after what you've been through noone could be annoyed by your bfp! please stick around!

OP posts:
JL200 · 27/07/2015 08:17

Hi shell and lil, yeah when I was at clinic last week she said I had a lot of follicles I have a 4yr old from a previous relationship although my partner the now is his dad he's brought him up since a baby, my partner has cystic fibrosis this is the reason we need Icsi so I'm unsure if this is the reason why I'm not injecting for a long time, congrats on ur positive shell, I think I would have lost all hope after 10 failed attempts but so glad u kept positive, I couldn't afford to do it anymore than once or twice so I need to keep my fingers crossed we get 1 strong sperm xx
