I think this was her 18 wk scan but they willhave another at 21 to see if it has moved. I think it was low at 12 but they hadnt told DSis to worry as most move by this pt its less likely to move. ( i think)
I always find i weird how people seem to move so quickly through pregnancy but infertility moves so slowly.
dSis other baby was also icsi.
I dont need any more appts just let them know period date so that is annoying to get to this pt a month before holiday with period probably starting this week as i just cant fit it in.
Now its probably a 2 month wait.
So your scan is probably next week then?

  • I have found exactly the same thing - that others pregnancies fly by while I have spent the same amount of time suffering and it feels like forever.
  • Must be frustrating that you can't fit in your IVF and now have to wait.
  • I guess a nice break first would be good for you mentally and maybe help - IVF but I totally understand just wanting this whole thing over with.
  • Just waiting for my period to arrive any day now and then getting day 2 scan.
  • This is the first cycle where I will ask not to be told any details. If I make 4 eggs or 10, I can't change it. Knowing will only make me stress.
  • Have done all the things researched to improve embryo quality so just have to believe that it will be quality over quantity.
  • Work is super short staffed and they have rostered me on heaps next week. But somehow I am going to make sure I get the time off I need for my IVF scans. This comes first.

Any news on your day 2 scan yet Shellster? I am getting excited for you now!

Shellster52 · 21/05/2014 06:20

Still waiting for my period to show up suzylee73
I am feeling crampy this afternoon so I think it will be here tomorrow.
Glad someone is excited for me - I just feel anxious today!
Was just reading of Liquorices failure on another thread.
She had 15 eggs and two transferred at day 5 yet still a BFN
You had 8 mature and BFN
Makes me feel what hope do I have when the most mature eggs I ever got was 4.
How are things with you going?

suzylee73 · 21/05/2014 09:03

Don't forget you only need one! I would rather have only produced one good egg than the crappy 12 I managed :) I am going to be excited for you all the way through your treatment even if your not. It's an amazing journey that could end with a baby god willing.

I have my appt on the 27th, its just a consultation but we will be matched with an egg donor shortly after it hopefully. Its quite hard choosing tbh, I have green eyes so want the donor to have green eyes but does that mean waiting longer or do I settle for blue? I just don't know :) Its hard to pick hair colour and height etc when really all I care about it getting pregnant, would I really care when it's here!

Using an egg donor has taken so much pressure off, I have made a good choice I can feel it in my bones :)

Don't forget to update me on your scan :D

Shellster52 · 21/05/2014 13:55

Thank you so much for your support and interest.

So you tell them your criteria and then wait for a match, if they don't already have one on their database.

Do you give an age limit for the woman as well?
Wow, all those extra things you have to consider for donor egg.
The 27th isn't far away and I look forward to hearing how it goes.
I am so glad you feel the pressure is off with donor egg and you feel good about it.

naty1 · 28/05/2014 00:23

Hows everyone doing?

I wouldnt care about eye colour, as long as the combination was possible . We both have blue to DD has blue ( it would be very unlikely to be anything else)
my dad has green brown and mum blue which has given us blue and dsis brown. I guess that may mean dad has odd brown eyes really? Not sure of genetics of green eyes.
TBH DD doesnt look much like me more like her aunt, it seems to be that way in our family, even her personality is more my dSis.

Day 2 scan showed 13 follicles. Have a repeat scan in 2 days - CD9.
Last IVF I started with only 5 follicles and decided to cancel.
So 13 was a great start.
But I am so frustrated at my old cheaper clinic.
My left ovary gives pain ever since Sep 13 egg retrieval.
Then during Dec 13 IVF, it started with 8 follicles but didn't respond to meds. My right ovary had no pain and 6 of the 7 follicles responded.
I thought it just needed more time to recover but I still have the pain now - 8 months later.
Pain is getting worse as I take the injections, just as it did during Dec IVF when it didn't respond.
So it seems they permanently damaged my left ovary and I am expecting it to not respond again.
They were supposed to help me get pregnant - not hinder.
Now they have halved my chances because I only have one working ovary :(

naty1 · 28/05/2014 10:17

Can they tell its not torcion from the scans?
What do they say when you mention it.?

OP posts:
suzylee73 · 28/05/2014 19:17

13 follicles! that's great news :D it's a good start this time. Sorry about the pain your suffering, IVF isn't just emotionally painful unfortunately, it's physically and financially painful.
Let's hope to god it all has a happy ending eh? :)
Can't wait to hear the results of your next scan!
Well Poland was a bit of a nightmare! They don't really speak English at the clinic and it's hard explaining that your booking in for a sperm test by gesticulating hahaha Luckily the Doc himself spoke a bit of English so we got by. Just waiting for a donor match now, don't think it will be long as I OK'd blue, grey and green eyes and brown, blonde or black hair. Only really said no to red hair or brown eyes.

naty1 · 28/05/2014 23:47

Yeah i would avoid red hair too. If we had donor sperm (my Dad has it) so likelly baby would inherit , but would be impossible naturally with DH and my genes also i have enough allergies myself and wouldnt want baby to look like a ghost (people think im ill)
You are being very flexible.
When do you go back?

OP posts:
suzylee73 · 29/05/2014 11:21

Every mother wants their daughter to look like them but if your too specific you end up waiting a long time and it's not that important in the grand scheme of things. There are no red heads either side so that would make it obvious a donor was used and I'm not telling anyone :)
Just have to wait to be matched now but in the mean time I am taking the pill so they can easily control my cycle. I have some other drugs but have already forgot what they are for!!
I don't know about you but it's less exciting once you have experienced failure Hmm unless I get some frosties I might make this my last attempt before adoption

Shellster52 · 30/05/2014 02:21

Yeah, this is my 6th attempt and the excitement is definitely not the same. I am just dreading the 19th June when I will get a negative blood test.

Good on you for making a decision that is right for you if you have chosen to not tell anyone. It's stressful enough without having the added pressure of other peoples opinions. So now it's just a waiting game for you...

I just cam back from day 9 scan. 14 follicles in total but will be lucky to get 5 eggs. Largest follicles are 14mm, 13mm, 12mm, 9mm and 8mm. She said the rest were too small and didn't even bother to measure because they will shrivel away rather than catch up. Even now, I will be lucky if the 8mm catches up the 14mm. Back for repeat scan in 3 days.

naty1 · 30/05/2014 13:55

Is it 2mm a day? So biggest could be 20mm by then

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 31/05/2014 02:03

Yeah, I've read 2mm a day on average too.
Although with my past IVF's I have noticed that some grow faster than this and others grow slower.
But I am REALLY hoping that enough are mature on Mondays scan and I am instructed to take trigger injection that night.
That will mean I can have ER on Wednesday - day 14.
Last time I had ER on day 15 and my estrogen levels started to drop the day before.
I read a study that showed this decreases IVF pregnancy rate by about 40-50% so I am REALLY wanting day 14 EC to see if this will prevent a repeat.

naty1 · 05/06/2014 09:26

Hows it going shell?

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 05/06/2014 11:04

My IVF Dr actually advised me to postpone IVF.

She thought that with 14 starting follicles, it is not usual to only have 3 mature eggs and that I can get a better response on another cycle.

Since cancelling, I read a study that said Aspirin interferes with follicle growth and the women in the study who took Aspirin during IVF cycle got less eggs than those who did not.

I had double the starting follicles due to taking Aspirin in the lead up to this IVF yet got less mature follicles on the same protocol so now it makes sense.

So I'm back in the waiting boat with you. We tried naturally with three eggs but with 100% abnormal sperm, no chance.
Waiting next cycle while we go on holidays then trying AGAIN the following cycle.
Do you have any idea when you will be starting again?
Would be nice to do it around the same time with someone who knows the fear and experience of a failed IVF.

naty1 · 05/06/2014 19:07

Thats a pity.
I am on holiday next week then i probably could call up to start again will my next period (next sat maybe)
But im a bit concerned about how bloated i am , 15wks on from EC.
Im thinking i may have a cyst.
I suppose i may tell them when i call up to stsrt cycle as icould maybe go in for a scan. Or i dont know possibly the down regging would cure it

suzylee73 · 05/06/2014 22:35

oh bloody hell fire Shellster! I was so excited about this round but again its not to be :( I hope your happier with the clinic this time though it's important that you feel you can trust them

Hope you have a great holiday Naty :)

With any luck we might all be doing our treatment at the same time

Shellster52 · 06/06/2014 02:22

You are such a sweat heart rooting for me suzylee. Thank you. At least I felt reassured that the Dr is certain I can get more follicles to respond in another round. And at least I read the study saying that Aspirin inhibits follicle growth so I know the reason why and will cut this out next cycle. Where are you at with things? Still just waiting for them to match you up with a donor?

Nat, I remember I was still sore on my left ovary from Sep 13 IVF when I went ahead with Dec 13 IVF. That ovary started with 8 follicles but only 1 responded and I put it down to the fact that it still hadn't recovered. I had cysts after some of my IVF's too and I read a study that showed response is much poorer when starting with a cyst so definitely make sure you are okay before starting again.

naty1 · 06/06/2014 14:14

Well i saw GP who felt my stomach couldnt find anything.
I guess will just mention to clinic when time comes
I guess it could be pcos affected by ivf... I feel fatter than when i was a few months pregnant :(

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 07/06/2014 01:33

The one thing that worries me for you Nat is that you won't respond well to stimms and waste more $$$$ on your next IVF - because that was my experience. I hope your clinic takes you seriously and investigates.

naty1 · 21/06/2014 17:13

Back from holiday now will call up to start when next cycle starts in 3 weeks.
How are you both getting on?

Hi :)
Hope you had a great holiday and are now well rested and ready to start again.
The time has flown since your last treatment, I'm looking forward to your next one.
I'm still waiting for my donor match, its taking longer than I thought it would :(
