Anyone starting IUI soon?

aaLaa · 29/12/2013 20:56

I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

Yeah I'm excited about the wedding, (although I have heaps this year this one will be great as it's my best friend and I'm involved in the wedding)

First injn this am, was ok, did them last cycle too, just on a lower dose this time round, blood test on Friday and then a scan on Monday.

Hope everyone is well, x

Hi all

Feel crampy today 12dpiui so think it probably hasn't worked as this is the normal AF pattern for me. Feel quite down but will have to wait a few more days to confirm the suspicion.

How is everyone else?

I had cramping for about the first six weeks of my pregnancy and I though my AF was coming. I'm sorry if AF arrives though, it is disheartening after going through treatment. Will you start your next round straight away?!

I'm just off to have by scan to see if I can start it again, I'm hoping there aren't any cysts so that I can have my last go! :)

All ok to start iui again here, currently on cd3 of our last attempt. Third time lucky I hope! :)

Good news happily!

I just wish I felt "different" in some way to how I usually feel. Otherwise its just that same same old feeling. I'm not going to start another cycle until I've discussed the c section scar issue with the consultant.

I didn't feel different at all when I found out, in fact I was so sure it would be a bfn that I left it on the bedside table and went down for my breakfast because I felt totally normal. I still have my fingers crossed for you x

Hi everyone,

I am new here and I am so glad I found such a positive, supportive thread!

In short: I am 33, my husband 32, we've been trying for over two years, one mc at the very beginning and a chemical preg 15 months ago. Done all the tests, all came back normal, even though my luteal phase is a borderline (10-11 days)

Gyno put me on Chlomid, scanned on day 11, hcg injection and then progesterone and baby aspirin for the rest of the cycle.

We've tried this for 3 months and sadly, it hasn't worked - AF just arrived 20 minutes ago (on the 24th day of cycle, 10 dpo, shouldn't progesterone make it longer...anyway).

We are going to go for IUI next and I am excited, scared, hopeful but not daring to hope! Also, I think that stopping the sex=ttc situation is going to be good for my marriage. Can't remember what spontaneous, fun sex feels like...

I understand you still take Chlomid before IUI? Is that standard?

Happilymarried155 · 06/02/2014 11:02

Hi Erica,

Sorry AF arrived!

I take clomid from day 2-6 and then do Menopur injections on day 5, 7 and 9. From what I understand there is a better success rate with injectables than clomid alone. Don't be worried about the injections, you don't feel them at all.

I always feel very positive when I'm doing iui as it feels like I'm actually doing something productive, if that makes sense?!

We too are unexplained been ttc for three years now, our 1st iui worked ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks, 2nd didn't work and third was cancelled due to too many follies! I'm currently on cd5 of my last iui and have my ivf appointment booked for March incase it doesn't work. I feel a lot happier and more relaxed with a plan in place!

How is everyone else getting on?! X

Hi Happily,

Thanks! So you can actually do both! That's helpful, I don't live in a Western country and even though all the technologies are there, so to speak, you still need to ask lots of questions and suggest stuff in order to get all the info & options available.

Sorry to hear about your mc. They are horrible, aren't they?

I am actually super squeamish about needles but I managed to inject myself with Ovitrelle (hcg) and it was fine.

I agree that taking action makes one feel more positive & empowered. I think the worst time for us was TTCing 6months to a year after mc, because the doctors said that since I had been pregnant before, we just had 'to be patient'. I got pg really quickly the first time but after the mc my cycles went all weird (basically very short, and with spotting before AF) so I always wonder if the mc and our current struggles are actually related.

Hope everyone is doing well...nearly the week end ladies!

Hey erica

Welcome to you little iui thread.

The needles are ok, just a wee nip. I am on injections this week and hopefully iui (1st cycle) next week some time, I'm having bloods tomorrow and a scan on Monday!! Fingers crossed!!

Worried-when are you testing??
Happily - how are you getting on, when do you start meds for this cycle??

Hi aaLaa,

Thanks for starting this thread!

I just spoke to my gyno re: giving IUI a go this month. He suggested we use Chlomid only because I have been responding so well to it . I got scanned on day 11 while taking Chlomid and all three times I had two big follies. I have always ovulated regularly i in the first place though? Maybe he's worried I will produce too many follies?.

Basically his advice at this point is that we try without Menopur.

On the one hand, I trust him (he's a very reputable fertility specialist in this part of the world). On the other hand, I really want to give ourselves the best chance to make it work as fast as possible (who doesn't :)

Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone had any IUI experience with Chlomid only?

Thanks so much in advance!!

By the way, I know he's not trying to give me a cheaper treatment to save public healthcare money because it's a private clinic (I don't live in a Western country).

Hope I am not spamming too much by posting in two threads but if I decide to take Menopur, I need to see my gyno today or tomorrow in order to have everything on time.

Why do I keep spelling Clomid as Chlomid???? Brain meltdown!

Happy Fridays ladies!!!

They say the first go is a bit of the tear with the medication anyway, you don't want to get a cycle cancelled. At my clinic they give you clomid cd2-cd6 and then scan you to see if you need the Menopur to make then extra big and juicy, would he do that?

Already started meds, have a scan on wed and the fingers crossed iui on Friday, sounds like we are pretty much at the same stage alaa!!

No word from worried yet-maybe that's good news?! Fingers crossed x

Hello all!

15dpiui. No AF but some more cramping this morning and weird "surging" pains in my boobs. I've manged to hold off testing so far (I'm so fed up of seeing bright white BFNs) but was told by the clinic to test tomorrow so I'll go and buy a test later today and try and sit on my hands and not use it until tomorrow. I've never had a LP longer than 15 days so there is still the chance AF could show up later today or tomorrow. I also wondered if the Crinone may be preventing AF from coming. I've read varying accounts of whether it does or doesn't do that - does anyone have experience of that?

Erica- welcome! I'm sorry about your mc. I had one at 6 weeks before having my DS and it was a horrible experience. You sound very positive though. I've found the IUI process fine. I only had Clomid tablets (days 3 - 7) and responded well so it wasn't felt that I needed anything else. It's fine balance because if you end up with too many follies they may cancel the cycle.

happily and aaLaa - glad you are both on your way!

Hi worried

I am crossing everything for you! My experience with progesterone (not Crinone though, I am on Cyclogest) is that it will make my LP longer (which is the whole point) but I will still start spotting when AF would normally arrive. I.e. if my cycle was 25 days, now it's 27-28 but I'll still spot on days 26-27. Does it make sense? What I mean is that it doesn't hold it off completely.

MC was totally traumatic experience. They told me that the fetus had actually died at 6 weeks but my body had not 'registered' until week 11, the week end before my 12 week scan was due. But it all happened two years ago now, so I have sort of accepted it. The chemical pregnancy was a huge disappointment too. I think if I finally get pregnant I won't quite believe it until I'm in the labour ward!

Thanks so much for your feedback on Clomid VS Menopur, really appreciate it!!!

Hi everyone

16dpiui and a very faint bfp. Faint but definitely there. I've had a big weep on DP because I so want to be happy but am too nervous that it will be a chemical or I'll lose it later on.

I'm also down to last crinone stick so worried that that might be what's sustaining it and I won't be able to get any more til Monday!

I feel a bit shocked to be honest.

Hopefully this is the start of a string of bfp x

Thank you!

Have been to the clinic for a blood test and more progesterone. In terms of symptoms I just felt like I was getting AF. I feel a bit "wibbly" (well known medical term!) and have sore boobs and the odd pulling pain in my groin but that's it.

The clinic are going to phone with results this afternoon so that's my next worry! Really living up to my username today!
