At least by telling him in prison she had the protection from the police who would have been told by the prison dervice that he had been talking about getting his revenge.... oh, no...

wait a minute....!!!

that was what was meant to happen but didn't.

Rindercella · 11/07/2010 11:20

I should imagine she felt prison to be the safest place to tell him she had left him. Adding that she was now in a relationship with a copper probably made her feel safer still. Remember, she was such a young girl when she started a relationship with Moat that she must have been scared witless by him. Not only did he pysically abuse her, he also hit his kids (wasn't he in prison for assualting his 9 year old daughter?).

There would never have been a good time for her to tell him it was over, but I have no doubt that she felt the safest time was when he was behind bars and therefore unable to beat the crap out of her.

Only one person was responsible for shooting 3 people and that was Moat. Good job he's dead. Shame he will probably become some sort of anti-hero for some misguided twats folk.

Kaloki · 11/07/2010 12:23

Of course she was ok to tell him she was seeing someone else!! Why the hell shouldn't she??? She didn't need to spare his feelings if he was trying to pressurise her into taking him back!

It sounds like everything she told him was intended to make him go away, rather than telling him to aggravate him. It also sounds like she was trying to protect her new boyfriend by trying to make him seem like the kind of guy Moat shouldn't mess with, she had no way of knowing that he was fucked up enough to just shoot the poor bloke - and her!

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2010 12:36

presumably she'd have had to tell him sometime? So what was she meant to do, meet him at the gates as he was released and tell him? That would not have been sensible!

do we know how she is? They don;t seem to mention her much

What about the people who gave him the gun then apparently drove him round looking for people to shoot.

5inthebed · 11/07/2010 14:09

SPB, reports are saying she is recovering well and may be able to go home shortly. I hope the press leave her alone when she goes home, doubt they will though.

Without going into great detail, he was a complete twat to all his ex girlfriends, especially those who had hildren with him. Very controlling.

5inthebed · 11/07/2010 14:10

Sorry, children.

Poshwellies · 11/07/2010 14:35

There's a photo (so called news site) of one his children stood outside his house with a sign around her neck saying 'naughty' and wearing a embarrassing hat.

Neighbours said she had to stand outside for hours.

He sounded a vile abusive drugged up beast.

5inthebed · 11/07/2010 15:33

It's not his child, it's a friends/relative's child? Or thats how I read it anyway.

CaptainUnderpants · 11/07/2010 17:21

Dittany - I have a right to an opinion like everyone else - if you dont like it well...
you know what you can do.

Would be interesting to know how many times she had withdrawn complaints of assault by him. , yes I know probably due to imtidtion etc etc but she was very naive to think that by saying her new partner was a copper that he would hae left her alone .

HerBeatitude · 11/07/2010 17:32

What relevance would it be Captain?

This is why short prsion sentences do not work; on this occasion it has had a polarized effect. This man should have been dealt with in the community and it is likely that none of this would have occurred.

Marne · 11/07/2010 18:11

The whole thing makes me very and .

Sad and angry that this man was allowed to leave prison with no support knowing that he could kill, sad that he killed and injured but also sad that he took his own life leaving children without a father (even if he wasn't a great father).

The best outcome would have been that he handed himself in, served his time for murder and got the help he needed.

"This guy was already beating the crap out of his girlfriend in the community"

Yes, and they are plenty to fill the gap he left. But prison does not work..it never has. There are plenty of offence focused programmes run by the Probation Service which the Court could have given as an alternative. It would not have cost anyone their life nor the £3m which we do not have.

The police and courts can only do so much , so when an abuser turns up on a womans doorstep says ' I love you babe , I wont; hurt you again , I'm really sorry' she takes him back in, regardless of whether there is an injunction / court order for him to leave her alone.

Whether she does it because she thinks it's true love, financial or doesn't want to be lonely who knows.
I have seen this happen and it does happen.

Nothing to do with female being victims . some females are gullible and naive that the man can change.

sethstarkaddersmum · 11/07/2010 19:02

agree with Dittany.
Prison is not just about retribution and rehabilitation, it is also about protecting society from people like Moat.

and they klok them up and then they come out say they're sorry and it all starts agin - nothing to do with feeling woman feeling frighten - alot take the man vakc due to finacial and dont wnat to be alone - yes some may be frightened but not all of them .

If women dont wnat to be helped out of that situation no matter how many laws.,long prison sentences, support groups , feminists arguing their case , it is not going to happen.

CaptainUnderpants · 11/07/2010 19:13

klok == lock !
