tiredemma · 06/04/2010 10:41

On BBC 1 now- talking about how the Conservative Party will sort this country out once and for all.

Well, will they?? or is it all hot air?

Im undecided about my vote- Im a Labour voter normally but have become disenchanted by that party- but remain sceptical about the Tories.

Im unsure about DC and his crew.

Tigga;

The gap between rich & poor has got even wider under Labour....do your research.

cornsilk · 06/04/2010 11:13

cornsilk · 06/04/2010 11:13

morningpaper · 06/04/2010 11:14

daftpunk: the gap has got wider but the poor are much better off

morningpaper · 06/04/2010 11:15

oh the gap has closed hmmm

I think we all know that tax credits have helped those on lower wages be enormously better off than they were

LilyBolero · 06/04/2010 11:17

The people who are going to be really stuffed after the election are the ones who don't qualify for any 'help' as such, but aren't rich enough for it not to matter, so the 'middle income' people.

I fully anticipate WHICHEVER party wins to cut free nursery places (for those earning over, say, 30k), introduce NHS top-ups (£10 per GP visit? for those earning over 30k, education 'top-ups', cut child benefit etc etc.

And because it is under the blanket of 'means testing' it will all sound like it's 'helping the people who need help the most'. But there's only so many times you can 'take' from the same people.

morningpaper · 06/04/2010 11:20

Yep TBH I think most of us will be worse off by several thousand a year

I rather think that more people have been eligible to claim benefits under the Labour Government. It doesn't mean that the poor are less poor it just means that more people are caught in the twilight world of low paid jobs which are subsidised by benefits. Which in turn makes it harder to earn extra money through overtime because penalties are imposed.

They have in effect capped earnings. They have forced people to go back to work after having children whether they want to or not. They are trying to run the country like a kibbutz and the social problems are in evidence all around us.

daftpunk · 06/04/2010 11:46

Not sure why..?

Doesn't matter anyway....she wouldn't have had any reply...the evidence was there in black & white.

wubblybubbly · 06/04/2010 11:48

The tories will not commit to maintaining the standards in diganosing and treating cancer. That's my mind made up.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 06/04/2010 11:49

quite liked the 'You Are Lost' cartoon on the link....

ShadeofViolet · 06/04/2010 11:50

Daftpunk - what evidence though, we cant really rely on your biased views can we!

daftpunk · 06/04/2010 11:52

I was linking you reports from the Times and the Telegraph...

I'll try again...give me 5....need to feed the cat.

"Children would have to sit in 'rows of desks'"

can this be true?

you lucky parents of primary school children

you won't be complaining in a few years, your children might actually be learning something that isn't about global warming or holding hands to save the world blah blah blah

Alouiseg · 06/04/2010 11:54

wubblybubbly standards and outcomes as we speak are being threatened by the labour party.

My sons Oncologist has to justify why she needs to the see children with cancer at her clinic on a very regular basis, the labour party assume that they are cured and have no need top be seen again by a specialist. The culture of targets have made childrens wards financially unviable because most of them are'nt in there for a hip replacement or cataracts. There is no money given to them for children with repeat chest infections.

ShadeofViolet · 06/04/2010 11:56

The problem is that it isnt just DC. If it were him on his onw it wouldnt be that bad. However he comes as part of a package and its a shite package at that!

ShadeofViolet · 06/04/2010 11:57

own

Alouiseg · 06/04/2010 11:57

Rows of desks are exactly why we chose an independent school for our childrens primary education rather than vast tables. My local primary school doesn't put the children into groups of ability or friendship it puts a mix of "behaviours" together so that the disruptive kid gets diluted by the well behaved children.

cornsilk · 06/04/2010 11:58

"Children would have to sit in 'rows of desks'"

why can't teachers decide how to organise their own classrooms? They're banging on about giving control back to teachers aren't they?

wastwinsetandpearls · 06/04/2010 12:02

I teach secondary and sometimes my desks are in rows and sometimes groups. Teachers can move desks you know. But I am intrigued about what will happen if a primary teacher dares to put his/her desks into groups. Will Dave pop out of the cupboard, blow on his hunting horn and chase the said teacher out of town on horseback.

Madness.

ShadeofViolet · 06/04/2010 12:02

Exactly Cornsilk. Surely the teachers should be able to decide how thier classrooms are set up.

daftpunk · 06/04/2010 12:04

try this one ?
