Just seen a ticker on the BBC website saying that

I would have thought that the reason that they were following him is that they thought he could give them a link to others in the terrorist cell. All dreadfully wrong and we know now.

saadia · 25/07/2005 16:43

The BBC is reporting that he was shot eight times.

edam · 25/07/2005 16:49

I was one of the people last week who agreed with Aloha when she said she'd be scared of anyone who appeared to fit the bomber's description - a young Asian man on public transport with a rucksack.

Travelled into London to work for the first time since the bombs today and have to say didn't cross my mind to worry about fellow passengers. Just did normal commuter thing. Feeling very guilty about saying I was afraid of anyone with that profile now, especially since this poor young man was killed for the crime of not being white enough.

ermm Moss - I think saadia was just giving us a 'latest' update rather - it's the ticker headline on the BBC at the moment that the inquest hear's he was shot 8 times.

On a completely differente note - do you think they'd have been so sure he was a potential sucicde bomber had he been white??

I think it does matter - eight shots is a lot and suggests to me that the person shooting might have lost control. He was shot because he looked Asian and because his flat was in a block that was under surveillance. Under the same circumstances if he looked white do you think he would have been shot?

I agree with you HMO2, he wouldn't have made the decision to pull that trigger lightly.

(how are you BTW, enjoying the holidays?!)

QueenOfQuotes · 25/07/2005 17:07

why are people assuming that those of us who think the police are at fault, are blaming the man who fired the shots????

Someone, somewhere in the MET messed up - and I'm sure once the inquiry is over we'll find out who, and at what point.

"his address had been found directly linked to the bombings,"

Yes his address not him - there was no name- why didn't they search the house is they were suspiscious?

Its the whole system that was at fault. We don't know why the man was allowed to get as far as the tube before he was shot.
But, the person that pulled the trigger is the one that will more than likely be held responsible at the end of the day.

HMO2 - there is a kiddy thing on tomorrow, london fire brigade will be there if you fancy it?

QueenOfQuotes · 25/07/2005 17:11

Well ok the FACTS so far (that have come from the inquest)

He was shot 8 times, 7 times in the head and once in the shoulder.

but hey - MN would be boring if we always waited until we knew all the facts before debating stuff

Haggerston park, 1 o'clock club.
Did you get booklet from school of all the different events on over the holidays?
Did you get sports day DVD? Its really good

Blu · 25/07/2005 17:17

I read that they didn't simply search the premises because they were hoping that someone from that address would lead them to the actual bombers.

Mosschops: but do you think they would have shot him if was white? I thnk he was at increased risk of being suspected of being a bomber because, although he was Brazilian, he was, as eye witnesses said, 'Asian looking'.

Edam has very big-heartedly admitted that she was one of many last week who would have an increased fear of certain people - which didn't include white people. If it was mistaken id, do you think the police would have been as likely to have made that mistake if he was white?

Things like 'if he was deaf' are relevant where the police rely on a shouted instruction...I'm confused!

Eugenius · 25/07/2005 17:20

"London Mayor Ken Livingstone described Mr Menezes as a "victim of the terrorist attacks".

He said: "Consider the choice that faced police officers at Stockwell last Friday - and be glad you did not have to take it."

didn't 'eye-witnesses' say he was shot 5 times?

kid · 25/07/2005 17:20

I haven't had the news on as much lately. DS must have been listening to it without us realising. DH was caught up at work for over 12 hours, he finally got home at 1:30am.

DS said to us 'I think daddy has died on the bus now' and then the next day he told me 'mummy I think there is a bomb in my bedroom, will you save me if it goes bang?'

Any news I want to hear on it now I'll get from the internet.
