Big chain then - I'd have no difficulty leaving it unsecured and coming home - they'd be insured if the place was looted anyway!

kid · 21/07/2005 21:22

The police are in the cordoned off area, I really can't see why they can't just lock the door for him.

As the night goes on, I'm feeling more and more sorry for him.

I'm also panicking a bit as when he is finally allowed to leave, he is going to phone me to pick him up from somehwhere. I am useless at driving through the city or anywhere I don't know come to think of it. Still, I do want him to hurry up home safely so I'll do it somehow.

soapbox · 21/07/2005 21:24

Kid - would it be possible to send a cab to go and pick him up, then pay the cab when he gets home??

Or get the cab to stop at the cash point on the way home????

hoxtonchick · 21/07/2005 21:30

oh kid, what a nightmare. hope he gets home soon.

kid · 21/07/2005 21:39

One of his lovely members of staff had gone home but then came back with food for them, she is soo lovely

He is getting cold now as he didn't take a coat.
He just spoke to a police man and was told they are having a meeting now to do a risk assessment. They will have a decision in the next 1.5 hours as to whether they can re-open the road. Fingers crossed we hear some good news soon.

He won't leave until the shop doors are locked. He is currently doing a silly dance / walk trying to keep warm You'll see him marched away by the police soon for acting strangely!

He also said the food the staff bought for them is hot so he is going to cuddle it for a little while!

Hi HC- I saw you this morning taking M to nursery, I whizzed past on the school run!

kid · 21/07/2005 21:49

thanks batters, its nice to hear people are thinking of us.

I freaking myself out a bit at the moment. Its unusual for me to be in the house by myself. I just had to go and turn some lights on.

kid · 21/07/2005 22:04

the alarm company just phoned to see why the alarm hasn't been set at the shop. Don't these people watch the news (rant over)

soapbox · 21/07/2005 22:07

Kid - I really hope he can leave soon.

It sounds like the problem is that they are waiting for bomb disposal experts to make the bombs safe before letting people back in.

I imagine you're feeling a bit nervy and anxious right now - since you are picking him up I can't even tell you to grab a glass of wine

kid · 21/07/2005 22:10

I'm heading out now to drive down to TCR, don't know the way properly, I may be some time!!!

Blu · 21/07/2005 22:43

How frustrating, Kid.

Chicagomum - life has been, in many ways, exactly as normal. Bike shops have done extra-good business, and people look at any bag to identify the owner....but that has always happened in the days following bomb attacks, anyway - e.g the thick of the IRA attacks.

People comment on feeling sad when using the tube because of the loss of life and because the clean-up operation at Kings X is still going on - and there is still disruption to some journeys - but again, that is nothiung new on London public transport.

It feels hard to say 'life goes on as usual' for most of us, because of course for 56 sets of families and friends, it is very much not like that.

But London is just so big.

Heathcliffscathy · 21/07/2005 22:45

i've mailed you blu.

mummy23 · 21/07/2005 23:09

hoxtonchick · 22/07/2005 08:15

hope you got home ok kid. come & play soon. xxx

kid · 22/07/2005 09:12

We finally got home at 1:30am.

I had to set out again this morning to take DH back to TCR as he needs to sort out the shop. He got a call from his area manager to see if the shop was open yet

DH isn't even meant to be at work today, I've told him to phone me if he wants picking up. I'm getting quite good at driving to TCR now!

I did have to sit in traffic for nearly an hour to get back home this morning though.

HC- Would love to come and play soon, still looking forward to meeting your DD.

M23- I'm hanging around at home today, need to see if I have to go and collect him. Kids are being looked after by V. Also need to go shopping, have no bread or milk. Speak to you later (when you get out of bed!)

mummy23 · 22/07/2005 09:31

Kid-I was thinking about you last night wondering if you was home or not!

I am up, been up since 7.45am, got woke up by the cooing of DS2, then he went back to sleep at 8.15am!!!

Hopefully DH dont have to stay at work to long (he must be mad to go back in this morning after reaching home at 1.30am!)

OP posts:
kid · 22/07/2005 09:53

We were up and out by 7:15 this morning.

No idea what time he is coming home.

Blu · 22/07/2005 09:58

Don't forget to pay your Congestion Charge, Kid! Apenalty would add insult to your considerable inconvenience. (the Queen might not waive it, this time!!) Your DH deserves a big 'thank you' from his employers.

kid · 22/07/2005 10:03

I just checked that and saw that congestion charge isn't cancelled, thought it might have been.

DH told me to keep the receipt and his company can pay for it!

jamboure · 22/07/2005 10:25

Heard on the news this morning that there was another tube closure in london think kingston something like that will listen to news again and ghet back to you

binkie · 22/07/2005 10:50

Also in answer to what is London like, I'd say as usual but a little more subdued and observant. Quite a lot of watchfulness. Which is what we want, of course. (I work in City, commuting in on bus/tube so am technically in the thick of it but apart from bits of inconvenience have not been affected at all. So agree that in a way it's much easier when you're in the eye of the hurricane - you know you're OK. I have to remind myself to do the reassuring calls to mum, dh, etc.)

*But I want a RANT: came to work by bus today and the driver was only using the front doors to let people on and off - very sensible I think, then he could check people out. But that was too much inconvenience for one lady who when he didn't open the back doors on her demand reached up and used the hidden emergency override button to open them & swanned off - which then meant the doors hung open until the driver had to get out of his seat and fix them manually. The SELFISHNESS. So long as I'm OK I don't care what security breaches I cause. SNARL.

kid · 22/07/2005 10:54

How rude of her. I think the rest of the passengers should have hurled abuse at her. Obviously she was too important to walk to the front of the bus to get off

Every person I drove past today that was holding a large bag made me feel uneasy. I know its not their fault if they need to carry a bag. But all rucksacks look suspicious to me now
