there we go

EXACTLY! It's always something that someone has e mailed to someone!
Anything that speculates that something that might happen, or a theory that one thing will lead to another, with no direct evidence from a reliable source - i.e the Police - is scaremongering.
And I have been in the thick of it - such as it was - all afternoon. This kind of theory was absolutelyt terrifying for people caught up in actual fatal incidents last time.

MrsGordonRamsay · 21/07/2005 19:43

Blu

I didn't get an e-mail, I arrived at that, all on my own, whilst my DH was making his way to his meeting having been evacuated from Waterloo.

This is still a democracy.

FrumpyGrumpy · 21/07/2005 19:43

Blu, do you work in Liverpool St? I think it was you that helped me stay calm couple of weeks ago.

Blu · 21/07/2005 19:44

In fact, I haven't felt particularly anxious throughout this - but I DO find all this speculation, what if, what if, what if, and then someone thinks of a new sensationalist possibility, a bit goulish, and unnecessary.

Blu · 21/07/2005 19:45

Yes, it's a democarcy, you can think what you like i'm telling you waht i think.
Fine.

chicagomum · 21/07/2005 19:45

i certainly didn't post it with the intention of scaremongering and as mrsgordonramsey said i'm sure i'm not the only one who thought it. ok so a comment like this isn't helpful in the situation but this isn't a thread with people asking for help/advice on a subject but a discussion on whats happening and trying to get your head around it

MrsGordonRamsay · 21/07/2005 19:48

Blu

I am going to retire from this discussion now, I was up to 90 about my DH today and could not believe that he got away lightly. Ergo, I convinced myself that it was just a taster of something else. I reserve the right to worry out loud on a public forum.

WigWamBam · 21/07/2005 19:50

There was some mention on one of the news reports that I read, that today's attack was timed to coincide with a memorial which was being held today for the victims of the bombs two weeks ago.

soapbox · 21/07/2005 19:54

Come on! Lets not fall out here

Its been a stressful day again for a lot of us, and we all want to deal with it in different ways.

It is hard to read some of the more scary speculation when you are just about to travel home, so I can see where Blu is coming from.

On the other hand, today's events were bizarre, although it is starting to look like they were bombs that just didn't detonate for some reason or other. On teh news just now they are saying that these were pretty certainly meant to be suicide bombers but something went wrong!

Lets bear a thought for those people who will be shattered tonight with teh knowledge as to what a lucky escape they had today

MrsGordonRamsay · 21/07/2005 19:57

Blu

??

edam · 21/07/2005 20:04

Blu was in the thick of it today. She works at the Oval and was evacuated from her building.

Isn't what is happening scary enough without people inventing even more scary theories at the very moment when people who are actually involved are dealing with the reality?

Btw, there was a memorial this morning for those who died on the 7th, at BMA House. The doctors there treated people on the bus that blew up.

MrsGordonRamsay · 21/07/2005 20:06

Look

I have offered an olive branch to Blu, I will not apologise for worrying about my DH, regardless of how that comes across.

It is a few posts back , Cod

Chicagomum posted a train of thought that someone had e-mailed to her, however my DH was in London today and I had already convinced my self that it was just a first wave to deflect the emergency services.

Blu took offence.............anyway read the rest of it.

chicagomum · 21/07/2005 20:15

i'm not sure if it was mrs gr or me that blu was upset with i do however apologise if i've made hers or any other persons day more stressful by posting what i did perhaps in hindsight it would have been best to keep that to myself, one thing that i would like to say though is that just because one isn't right in the thick of it doesn't mean your not affected my it. had we not been over here by dh would have very likely been on the train in moorgate 2 weeks ago i've very thankful that he wasn't being over here but with friends and love ones back in london makes it very difficult to cope with the situation and being able to post my thoughts etc on a site like this helps

soapbox · 21/07/2005 20:20

Maybe we should have done the same as last time and had a separate thread for those actually caught in London to reassure each other.

That way those that want to chat in a more speculative way can do so without spooking those that have to leave the relative safety of their offices at some point.

Lets hope there isn't a next time!!!

Blu - you must have had a very worrying experience today - I hope you are OK

MrsGordonRamsay · 21/07/2005 20:31

Soapbox

My DH had to leave the relative safety of his meeting and travel home, I am very sad that I could not back up another MN with out being made to feel like some sort of rubber necker

edam · 21/07/2005 20:45

At least your dh is coming home, Mrs GR, mine's gone ahead with his big corporate shindig in Mayfair tonight. He's hoping trains will be back to normal by the small hours - serves him right if he's stuck on a siding all night!

My poor DH was evacuated at 1pm today and is still there. The police won't allow him to his shop to secure it or to collect keys, bus passes, money. They have been told to expect to be there for any between 2 and 36 hours &

soapbox · 21/07/2005 20:52

MGR - you can't get me with that one - he's in the pub

Only a suggestion to help those of us who do have to travel through it all. I do appreciate being worried about others, DH also works in the City so has to travel too.

It is spooky to read speculative comments when you are trying to keep calm, especially when both of us are not able to get home to the children without travelling through the City.

Not sure what the answer is?????

edam · 21/07/2005 20:54

Oh Kid, that's awful. Don't know what else to say.

Blu · 21/07/2005 20:54

Yes, shake all round - sorry I was being snippy!

I agree with the fact that you don't have to be caught up in it directly to worry / be affected - as I was saying to HD further down, I found it more worrying to be further away, but know of family close-in. When the news reports first start, at least if you're right there, you know it's happened and you're ok - waiting for clarification as news breaks is much less re-assuring.

Glad your dh is ok, mgr, and thanks, cm.
