Because obviously sex outside of marriage is a sin.

Something for Herr Ratzenberger to bear in mind

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 12:03

The trouble with the Pope from my idealistic and confused view point,is that I think he should be holy.Or at least very good, and he doesn't seem to quite live up to that...So how do observant Catholics deal with that?

daftpunk · 02/02/2010 12:03

Not as big a sin as homosexuality...

Rhubarb · 02/02/2010 12:04
Rhubarb · 02/02/2010 12:05

daftpunk my old fucker! Now look here, serious question, which is the biggest sin.

Homosexuality.
Paedophilia.

Your own personal opinion now, which is the greater sin.

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 12:06

But why, daftpunk? (thanks for the answer,by the way) It's all sin, isn't it? And you could argue that they were promoting a lifestyle choice, which your children might well emulate.

Ooh the irish politician that was shagging the toy boy said that being a paedo was almost as bad...so that' s, like, really bad then.

I'm still laughing at the 'next we'll have them in our schools' line. I've taught in catholic schools ans attended 3. Who should be there? The one who is systematically shagging his way around the staff? How about the one who has left her husband? How about the one who was cautioned for shoplifting? Or maybe the single bloke who is decent and moral and great with kids but just happens to go to sleep with another man every night?

DP, do you not see that you (and him) are the reason people see us (RCs) as nutters?

Hullygully · 02/02/2010 12:07

For Rhubarb

Lovecat · 02/02/2010 12:08

Oh dear, DP, it seems my prayers on your behalf have been in vain

Otherwise, what Rockbird and Rhubarb have said. Nothing more to add, other than this (and that prize biatch Widdecombe) is seriously making me want to leave the Church which, as another poster has pointed out, is part of my ethnic Irish identity rather than the be-all and end-all as far as that eejit in Rome goes.

Happy Birthday Rhubs!

Rhubarb · 02/02/2010 12:09

Aw now is that just the best! Almost as good as ds's picture he did me last night of a building on fire and an aeroplane crashing onto the fire truck and exploding!

Pogleswood · 02/02/2010 12:09

Hully,I'd like a fridge magnet of that,please!

ImSoNotTelling · 02/02/2010 12:09

DP:

"Look, it's quite simple really...if we start letting openly gay priests in (I know we have them already but they are not promoting it)"

This is not about having gay priests - it is about not being allowed to discriminate in other jobs in the church - back room office jobs etc.

They will still be allowed to discriminate against gay priests or anyone gay preaching.

Have you read up about it? The BBC item covers this. It would appear that you are arguing against something which isn't actually happening, which does not add to the credibility of your arguments.

_

From BBC: "Religious leaders have voiced concern that the Equality Bill could force churches to employ sexually active gay people and transsexuals when hiring staff other than priests or ministers."

myredcardigan · 02/02/2010 12:10

Yes, silly old girl, Mrs Robinson, shagging the teenager then commiting fraud. But hey, at least he was male and that's what counts, right?

Litchick · 02/02/2010 12:11

The thing is though, at what point do you say enough is enough and stop calling yourself a catholic?

No contraception
No termination
No divorce even in abusive relationships
No homosexuality
No women in office

Where do you draw the line and say this is simply not an organisation I want to belong to?

myredcardigan · 02/02/2010 12:12

I'll come on your march, Lovecat!
I think it would be good for the country to see we do not share such bigoted views.

Hullygully · 02/02/2010 12:12

DP's hood

TigerFeet · 02/02/2010 12:12

It's the hypocrisy of it that bothers me

It's OK for one kind of (so called) sinner to be teaching a child but not another (so called) sinner - when in reality the person percieved of as committing the greater sin could well be by far the better teacher

BadgersPaws "So a celibate homosexual is, I believe, OK." Fair enough, but somehow I don't think thats what either the Pope or DaftPunk are saying that
