I would like an openly gay fridge magnet please. What form would it take I wonder? A sparkly red shoe perhaps?

Strix · 02/02/2010 11:49

Actively campaigning against equality for women and gays is unchristian. EMpathy for those less fotunate that you (i.e. people who do not have equality protection when you do) is Christian.

Bizarre that you could call yourself a Christian and acknowledge this.

Oh yes it is. DP is bang on the nail as per. Filth pervy poofters corrupting our little innocent kiddies with their vaseline smeared hands and dirty ways. Oh no, sorry, that was the priests, wasn't it?

mayorquimby · 02/02/2010 11:50

"mayorquimby, I refer you back to badgerspaws. I would love to think that he hated the time spent as a member of the Hitler Youth and that he did all he could to get out. But the vile crap he's spouting now makes me think otherwise.

After all, weren't they homophobic too?"

Well going by your logic then
a) the catholic church has always been homophobic
b) the nazis were homophobic
conclusion: the catholic church is a nazi institution (hell they already have ties with mussolini may as well keep up facist tradition).

The fact that he is a homophobe (of this i have no doubt) and the fact that he was forced to take some part in the hitler youth does not make him a nazi. In fact most of soceity at that time was homophobic including the allies, yet that does not mean they shared any other of the nazis views.

Hully, not all priests are like that. You get those filthy bastards in all walks of life.

BTW thanks for your advice on the other thread a while back. Sorry I couldn't go back to that thread, I just had to let it verbally spill out and then move on. Feeling a little better now

"Did anyone see that episode of South Park where the gay scout leader was sacked for being gay, and instead the children got a scout leader who liked to take pictures of the children in their underpants? It was crude in the usual South Park way but they do have a habit of making some very good points.

The new scout leader was straight and married therefore bound to be safe, whereas the gay one was hounded out because he was bound to want to touch children right? It highlighted the ignorance of people.

I like South Park!"

South park has long been one of the smartest comedies on tv, the creators have an amazing satirical/observational eye on soceity and for the most part get things spot-on with regards the hypocrisies and stupidity of the media/knee jerk reactionaries.

Lovely old Popey

mayorquimby · 02/02/2010 11:53

oh and i think the swearing is funny

Snorbs · 02/02/2010 11:53

I think they promote homosexuality in breakfast cereals now. You know, those cut-out'n'keep pictures of Shirley Bassey and K D Lang. And did you ever wonder about the little plastic figures of John Barrowman and Ellen DeGeneres you find mixed in with the cornflakes? That's them.

I understand that later in the year they'll be doing a "Buy one peaked leather cap, and get the chains free!" deal at Asda, too. Those damn sneaky hurmaseckswals...

morningpaper · 02/02/2010 11:54

gay fridge magnets

BadgersPaws · 02/02/2010 11:55

"And why is being openly gay promoting homosexuality? It isn't a lifestyle choice."

The Catholic Church are intelligent enough to not actually use the "homosexuality is a lifestyle" argument as it's so clearly nonsense.

What they will say is that actually engaging in homosexual sex is a "choice".

So a celibate homosexual is, I believe, OK.

However as others have already hinted at this does throw up the question about why they make such a big deal about sexually active homosexuals but don't seem to have the same problem with sexually active unmarried heterosexuals.

That should be the same thing, they're both committing a "sinful" act.

Yet for some reason one sinner is more acceptable than another.

And one sinner can be blocked from a job yet another can't.

I wouldn't be surprised that if they get away with being able to ignore the law then the next target might be unmarried couples.

If the Church is being logical in applying it's faith then that's got to be next.

Unless, of course, they're applying certain bits of their faith through blind unthinking bigotry...

mayorquimby, he is not only homophobic but he is also sexist and deeply deeply unsympathetic to peoples plight, such as the young girls being gang raped in Africa who are then forced to have their babies even if it kills them, because it's wrong to do otherwise right?

He is far far removed from the people he is meant to lead.

Hullygully · 02/02/2010 11:58

Because footwear matters, people

Strix · 02/02/2010 11:59

I think it would be fun to produce a West End play set in the next century about how rediculous the Catholic church was in 2010 when it still didn't allow Gay Popes.

"A Strange Story of Twilight Love,Jealousy and Hatred" ,Lenin? Cool! Obviously you've got some of the accoutrements for your lesbian lifestyle then!

Rhubarb · 02/02/2010 11:59

This BBC News article highlights the Pope's time as a Hitler Youth member and the things he's done since then that also seem to tie in with their beliefs.

He may be a 'poor communicator' as the article states, but he's not thick. He made some decisions that you wonder about his motives for, such as welcoming the Holocaust denying bishop back into the catholic church.

Hullygully · 02/02/2010 11:59

Springtime for Hitler and Popery?

daftpunk · 02/02/2010 12:00

Pogleswood;

I have no problem with non-celibate unmarried straight people teaching...

Why would I have..?
