What do you think?

Yes,I thought that as I posted,Freddo and jcscot! There is plenty of debate about faith schools on MN already though, isn't there?

Yes,jcscot - it was Ae Fond Kiss - thanks for that.I was surprised when I watched it to see that she could be called in to speak to her priest about her relationship,I didn't realise it was still something that was likely to happen.(maybe it isn't in RL)

FreddoBaggyMac · 05/02/2010 11:23

Sounds a good film - will put it on my list to watch and find out for sure if she was sacked

onagar · 05/02/2010 13:34

Can I just mention in passing in reference to the translation debate that intercourse doesn't mean sex either. It can mean that, but it's not the primary meaning unless you say sexual intercourse.

In any case if you take it to mean that then I wonder how often that town had rampaging packs of homosexual rapists attacking homes to get at the strangers. Doesn't sound very likely to me.

Am pleased to hear that despite catholic sources also misrepresenting the pope that in fact he has no problem with employing gay people in all parts of the church.

It's such a relief that the whole idea of him being against them working in the church was a media conspiracy completely without foundation.

While we're on that subject though can we now confirm that in fact the church had no problem with gay adoption. In light of this I now suspect that this was invented too by the media.

BethNoireNewNameForPeachy · 05/02/2010 14:02

RE Ae fond kiss there's a teacher at our CofWschool just gone on mat leave who isn't married, she'salsorelated to teh Vicar so double bubble as it were.

Tongues wagged I ahve to say but asmany of us terrible aprents didn;tmarry until after our first child I am suspicious that they wouldn't have had she not been hugely disliked and people were therefre efffectively having a LMAO-AND-YELLING-KARAMA moment.I have to say that doesdescriibe may take on it as someone who has had little to thank her for.

daftpunk · 05/02/2010 14:12

Onagar;

Can you link me some proof that the church have no problem with gay adoption....

Thanks...

BethNoireNewNameForPeachy · 05/02/2010 14:13

Hmm DPI may be wrong but I reckon Onagerwas talking with dep sarcasm there.

FreddoBaggyMac · 05/02/2010 14:16

Meant to keep away but really am a succker for self flagellation... Onagar I don't think you have read all the posts. No-one has said anything along the lines of 'the Pope has no problems employing gay people' - you either have not read things through thoroughly or have just given up on your arguement!
Now I WILL keep away for the rest of today, I know I can do it...

onagar · 05/02/2010 14:17

Indeed I was being sarcastic then

No one really thinks that the church wanting to be exempt from employment law was all made up by the media do they?

FreddoBaggyMac · 05/02/2010 14:19

No onagar they do not. READ THE POSTS PROPERLY!!! At least read the article that jcscot linked to as that pretty much sums things up. Am REALLY going...

Freddo, I was reading yours. Hence the sarcasm and the grin. I think you got a bit carried away there, but I did think claiming that even the Catholic articles were anti pope was wonderful.

daftpunk · 05/02/2010 14:21

Ha ha Onagar.....you got me mate..!

daftpunk · 05/02/2010 14:24

But y'know....someone told me on here, that although the church closed all the agencies they re-opened them under different names and were now accepting gay parents...

Maybe she was winding me up too..?

onagar · 05/02/2010 14:25

LeninGrad, my fault. I mentioned the anti-gay adoption thing when I asked if people thought that was all made up too.

It's not really the topic here and now though.

BethNoireNewNameForPeachy · 05/02/2010 14:25
onagar · 05/02/2010 14:27

Still off topic

Daftpunk, I haven't followed that up, but I understood that they kind of 'privatised' them so they carried on under another name without church interference.

daftpunk · 05/02/2010 14:28

Leningrad....

what you say to me.....

I just can't handle it sometimes.....

I can't handle it because I really fucking like you...

FreddoBaggyMac · 05/02/2010 14:30

Onagar you are the one who gets me back here more than anyone
I did not get carried away and I stand by everything I have said. THE TABLET IS A LIBERAL NEWSPAPER AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE A DIFFERENT POPE TO BENEDICT WHO REPRESENTS THE CONSERVATIVE SIDE OF THE CHURCH. There is nothing funny or 'wonderful' about that, it's just a fact.
My summary of this whole thing is that the Pope has said that a bill coming into parliament which was supposed to provide people with more freedom actually would restrict freedom. If you want to know more take five minutes to read the article linked to by jcscot. I really am going now as I'm pretty sure anyone who reads that article properly will understand my viewpoint and it says it all far better than I could.
I'm going this time, turning the PC OFF, unplugging the router.... until tomorrow

ilovemydogandmrobama · 05/02/2010 14:32

Excellent post Lenin

alexpolismum · 05/02/2010 15:01

Very nicely said LeninGrad.

All this talk of flaunting is quite bizarre anyway. I don't know any homosexuals who go around 'flaunting'. Generally they just try to get on with life like the rest of us. All these people who say "I just don't want to see it around me" - when was the last time you saw homosexuals having sex in the street? Do you really think it's a problem?

Going back to the translation issue - what is the exact reference for the disputed 'intercourse' sentence? I want to look it up and see what it says in Greek.

I am a professional translator and I agree with what Badger seems to be saying - there is no reason for a translator to translate a euphemism with an explicit phrase. A euphemism should be translated with a euphemism wherever possible, or a phrase which puts across the euphemistic spirit of the original. And the Biblical writers are not known for mincing their words.

Hullygully · 05/02/2010 15:15

Lenin, he's on your side

Hullygully · 05/02/2010 15:18

Go flaunting lesbians with teddies. Go!
