I wouldn't goout dressed in my PJs

but is it really 'offensive' to other shoppers?

I give a little but it doesn't affect me in any way.

IU wonder if those velour lounge suits are classed as PJs?

I think it's hilarious this story brings out everyone's 'inner chav hatred''

Trouble is, it's what PJs represent isn't it? If you're wearing PJs in a playground or supermarket the chances are you are not rushing off to work...

And therefore how are you paying your way in life ??

Nancy66 · 28/01/2010 19:10

You're right littlestmummystop - bottom line is it's just common!

pagwatch · 28/01/2010 19:15

no - its not that.
Its just about dimwit, trying to be different but all doing it the same stuff. It is up there for me with trousers tucked under your arse, women out at night wearing next to nothing, orange tan, the camisole and ugg boots thing...
Butthose are usually 14 year olds - this is maother looking like shit, making a virtue of 'can't be arsed'.
It isn't a 'chav' thing for me. And I don't work...

Being presentable is an old fashioned notion but it is for me linked with manners.
My mum had to get 8 children under 10 ready every day and she did it and I never saw her in her nightwear during the day.

Call me an old twerp by all means - but don't make it about 'chavs' because I don't think that is true

Having said that I would prefer a woman in PJs in front of me in the queue at Tescos than some blokes bum crack

ilovemydogandmrobama · 28/01/2010 19:22

Where I used to live, Lord * would shop in his PJs. Wore a robe though. He just didn't care what other people thought.

pagwatch · 28/01/2010 19:25

can I just say that I have answered sensibly on a thread about PJs at Tescos.

My MN world is now all encompassng. I think I need To Get Out More...

MamaGoblin · 28/01/2010 19:36

Am at whole story. They all sound deeply depressed to me.

I heard this reported on R4 news just now: woman interviewed was very defensive about it 'Yeah, I did wear my pyjamas and slippers last week when I went to Tesco, but what's the big deal - I only went in for a pack of fags!' Yeah. Waynetta lives.

Baileysismyfriend · 28/01/2010 19:49

Euuuwwwww I think its really gross to go out in your pjs, it would take all of 3 minutes to put some jogging bottoms on and a hoody if you wanted something on that was comfy.

I hate the idea of standing next to someone that is wearing what they slept in.

Its icky.

SecretSquirrel193 · 28/01/2010 20:12

Using the getting dressed means you aren't next to people who are walking round in what they slept in argument is flawed though, how do you know someone hasn't slept in their joggers and t-shirt and just chucked on a hoody?

BendyBob · 28/01/2010 20:17

It is depressing to think that some people just can't be bothered to change out of their pj's or whatever they wear to bed to go out and face the world. It's slovenly.

I don't actually wear my pjs in bed. I put them on when I get up, so maybe they didn't sleep in them; however I still manage to put on clothes if I'm leaving the house, and I'm the laziest person I know.

I've seen people sat in pubs in their jammies more than once. Usually students getting breakfast, but one lady was wearing them in the evening (everyone else she was with were wearing normal clothes, so it wasn't a fancy dress thing) and she was getting absolutely smashed. I don't understand why she thought it was normal to go on a drinking bender in her pyjamas.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2010 20:29

I feel like I've stepped into an alternate universe - where've I been recently?! I have not knowingly seen one person in their pjs out and about. Just asked dh and he hasn't noticed this either.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2010 20:32

In fact, I am convinced that you are all making this up.

nighbynight · 28/01/2010 21:02

Ive never seen anyone in pyjamas out and about in Germany either! I should think they would get some rude comments as well as looks.

tho it is about -7 at the moment.

persephonesnape · 28/01/2010 21:03

i think the DM pic may be staged as I'm sure I heard the same delightful lady on the today programme this evening on the way back from work. she did mention how 'tidy' her pyjamas were (from primark) and was annoyed because she'd only popped in for a packet of fags.

I manage to get three children sorted out in the morning as a single parent and get dresssd and then go to work. it is bloody lazy, or would previously be seen as a sign of depression i think...but then I got dressed every morning when I was hospitalised when Ds1 was a traverese lie....and if i'm in a HIGE rush, I'll pull on trackies...wouldn't dream of putting on aface of make up though

persephonesnape · 28/01/2010 21:11

(I am obviously too lazy to spellcheck before hitting post though..)

JulesJules · 28/01/2010 21:14

I have never seen this, in fact when I heard it on the radio this morning, I thought it was a joke.

Here in the North East we obv have some standards - no jokes about going out with no coat or jacket on, now...

LynetteScavo · 28/01/2010 21:21

From the link in the OP: "She said she been "popping in for a pack of fags," but if she had been doing a full shop "then we obviously would have gone in clothed"."

Absolutely brilliant.

Personally I think it's OK if women are wearing a bra..free swinging norks are wear I draw the line.

LynetteScavo · 28/01/2010 21:22

where

differentID · 28/01/2010 21:25

I saw a family out in their Pyjamas last week. Mum and 2 teenage daughters in pyjamas and ugg-type boots, dad in trackies, which was ok except for the beer gut hanging over the top and 2 younger children also in pyjamas- one on slippers one in trainers.

This was at 5.30 in the evening when I was on my way home from work.

Heated · 28/01/2010 21:35

Occasional PJ wearers in a local Tesco, not often, mostly student types. Was amused to hear a pensioner say "Poor soul" - I think she thought they'd escaped/needed ushering back.

Earthymama · 28/01/2010 21:50

I can't even stand sports wear on people who aren't participating in sport, travelling to or from said perticipation. I think men in trackies look awful, so scruffy. And I do know they cost a fortune for some logo or another, but still.

My dad never went out without a trilby hat or a cap and he kept pigs!!

Have been laughing at my own pomposity now now!!

(Please MN old fogey emoticon!!]

persephonesnape · 28/01/2010 22:01

i wish people still wore hats as a matter of course. and white gloves before labor day. whenever that is.

perapera · 28/01/2010 22:04

According to my colleague (I live in Liverpool), the pjs people wear out here aren't the ones they've slept in but like a previous poster said 'nice ones for going out in'! So they aren't exactly being lazy... just slightly odd?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2010 22:24

I have 2 meetings tomorrow. Am contemplating the reaction I'd get if I turned up to the council offices in my pjs
