I wouldn't goout dressed in my PJs

but is it really 'offensive' to other shoppers?

I give a little but it doesn't affect me in any way.

IU wonder if those velour lounge suits are classed as PJs?

I even get dressed to pay the window cleaner when he comes at the crack of dawn. I feel so self conscious in PJs. Have to start again so can shower etc but still, takes no time at all to put clothes on. It's clearly not a lack of time thing. Some fashion or statment that currently eludes me!

vvvodka · 28/01/2010 16:24

i think banning clothing is just wrong wrong wrong.
i think that wearing pj's to the shops is not right either, but i think to ban it is completely unbritish.

mejon · 28/01/2010 16:30

I was born and raised in St Mellons village and can remember a time when where Tescos and the new estate are were all fields down as far as the coast [nostalgic old gimmer emoticon]. We moved this time last year and it certainly wasn't unusual to see women in their pjs at all times of the day. I doubt whether the DM pic is staged - I'm sure the photographer had plenty to pick from .

gagamama · 28/01/2010 16:52

Perhaps this is the modern equivalent of people who have clearly never broken a sweat let alone competed in any kind of sport wearing sportswear all the time. It got a bit old so now they're wearing pyjamas outside in public.

I have to say that I don't think I've ever seen anyone wandering around in their PJs though and am completely perplexed by the whole thing.

SecretSquirrel193 · 28/01/2010 16:52

I have shopped in PJs in the middle of severe clinical depression. Getting up and out the house took all my effort, I didn't give a flying fuck what I looked like. All those of you judging people in PJs really need to just think twice before presuming they are lazy slobs.

jobobpip08 · 28/01/2010 17:09

PJ's in Tescos? Thats nothing, check out www.peopleofwalmart.com for some real shockers! PJ's look positively smart when you look at them!

pagwatch · 28/01/2010 17:18

actually SecretSquirrel I had staggeringly awful, suicidal depression too - combined with a DS who would not sleep (ASD) and was impossible to deal with during the day.
I still managed to get day time clothes on.

These twats fucking about in PJs are usually just that.
Back then, my disarray was at least a sign to some people who cared that I was struggling. Most of these nobs are actually making it harder to spot someone struggling to keep up with life
so I d judge them

michymama · 28/01/2010 17:21

I'm in Liverpool and its the norm to see people out and about in their pj's, with perfect hair and make up. Its not something I would ever do no matter how late I am running for school. I mean when I am running late I still manage to give my face a wash, even though its without make up (I hardly wear any anyway) and if my hair is having a bad day and needs a bit more time than I have got then I pop a hat on.
I can sort of understand if people pop out in their pjs when they in a rush and dropping kids off at school but its when they come out in full hair and make up. If you've got time to do ur hair AND make up then surely u've got time to put some clothes on ???
Our dentist has a sign up saying that people in their pjs cannot be seen for health and safety reasons which is fair enough.

Chil1234 · 28/01/2010 17:27

That's it then. The world now divides neatly down the middle.... those who are civilised and those who think it's OK to do the shopping in their pyjamas and slippers.

SerenityNowAKABleh · 28/01/2010 17:27

Well, I recently went to Waitrose with no bra on
But, I had been at the gym and couldn't be arsed putting it on again after my shower.

Did get a little thrill out of it though

cocolepew · 28/01/2010 17:28

They do make up and hair fixed here too, I'm presuming they get up and change out of their nighttime jammies and into their daytime jammies .

We had to take DD to hospital in Belfast, coming out I saw a young woman with pj's, slippers and dressing gown on. I thought maybe she'd wandered out of a ward until I realised she was doing her shopping.

SerenityNowAKABleh · 28/01/2010 17:28

I was wearing clothes though, my work clothes

gruber · 28/01/2010 17:34

I can't even open the door with PJs on. Seriously, how long does it take to throw on jeans and a jumper?

michymama · 28/01/2010 17:47

I guess if they are changing their pjs then thats something. the idea that they've rolled out of bed then go shopping is just not right.
I even changed into a tracksuit when I was in hospital, I don't sleep in pjs and only put them on as its a bit nippy in the mornings

CaptainUnderpants · 28/01/2010 17:49

this is more like it if you shop at Waitrose

here

I really do think that a lot of people need to get a fucking life if they are that bothered by what someone else wears to go shopping in.
I do school run\shop in PJs on days wehn I'm going to go straight back to bed as soon as it's done. WHat on earth is the problem and in what way, exactly, is it anyone else's business?

Pixel · 28/01/2010 17:58

"One mother said: ?This is just pathetic and shows how snobbish some people can be.

?Do they have any idea how difficult it is to get three kids off to school when you are a single parent?"

Is she serious? What on earth has being a single parent got to do with it? I'm married but dh leaves for work long before the dcs are even awake. I somehow manage to throw on some clothes. I must be superwoman .

Obviously hasn't occurred to her that if she hasn't got time to get dressed, then she isn't getting up early enough?

lottiejenkins · 28/01/2010 18:01

If im bakig and i need something i go to the shop with my apron on!!

babyicebean · 28/01/2010 18:01

I cant see how wearing pyjamas in tesco is offensive - unless ots see through.

I have never done it myself but I have worn a full Las Vegas Showgirl outfit with feathered headdress in Asda, I was off to a fancy dress party and laddered my stockings so had to get a spare pair.Did get a few raised eyebrows but I think it was the fact I had the headderss on, one we had pinned that to stay in place there was no way it was coming off.

CaptainUnderpants · 28/01/2010 18:03

Lottie - just your apron ?

notsoteenagemum · 28/01/2010 18:08

I wish they would ban ill-fitting fuggly boots which are usually teamed with the PJ's, the ones you hear been dragged around ten minutes before you see the them.
I have done school run in PJ's when ds was about two weeks old and we were going back to bed, I did have a long coat over the top though.

lottiejenkins · 28/01/2010 18:09

Ha ha Captain! That would cause a scandal wouldnt it!! No over my clothes and normally with floury handprints on the bum of my trousers where ive wiped my hands!!

usualsuspect · 28/01/2010 18:10

I couldn't care less what people wear to go shopping in..
