I wouldn't goout dressed in my PJs

but is it really 'offensive' to other shoppers?

I give a little but it doesn't affect me in any way.

IU wonder if those velour lounge suits are classed as PJs?

I assume that doesn't apply to small children? I remember my dds running around Asda barefoot, but I suppose if Asda had a dress code they would lose many of their customers.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 28/01/2010 10:19

i agree with teh footwear thing

ginnny · 28/01/2010 10:20

I can think of a lot more offensive things than pyjamas, like nasty fat chavs women with their thongs showing over the top of their jeans.
Agree about footwear though - why on earth would you walk round Tescos barefoot

havoc · 28/01/2010 10:21

I think that notice was for my benefit - I'm always popping out to tesco in my babydoll nightie.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 28/01/2010 10:21

We used to go to the shops in our pj's when we were at uni late at night. If someone has pj bottoms on and a jumper then there is nothing offensive about that. Wearing shoes is jsut polite and clean and tidy. I think little girls in skanky clothing is more offensive.

GeeWhizz · 28/01/2010 10:24

Who goes shopping barefoot? What happened to their slippers then?

Have never seen anyone shop in pyjamas but would prefer it then having to see too much of someone's flesh on show.

brimfull · 28/01/2010 10:27

do people really go out shopping in their pj's

i wouldn't dream of it

expatinscotland · 28/01/2010 10:28

I find it offensive, tbh.

How hard is it to put on some trackies or that?

And footwear. That's just gross!

I come from a semi-tropical climate where signs that read, 'No shoes, no shirt, no service' abound.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/01/2010 10:29

There is a woman who delivers her daughter to school every day in pyjamas with food and stains all down the front, hair all over the place, but she has the decency to put her shoes on.

If it's cold, she sometimes wears her dressing gown over the top.

Eeyore pyjama bottoms seem to be her favourite.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2010 10:30

How fecking lazy can you get? Seriously.

belgo · 28/01/2010 10:33

I don't even like wearing pjs at home. I get dressed as soon as I get up and showered, it takes ten minutes.

sunnyshine · 28/01/2010 10:33

we were in our local tesco once and a man walked in in full bed ware! pjs, dressing gown and slippers, bought his paper and croissants and left at which point everyone in the store exploded into laughter!

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 28/01/2010 10:33

it is mind-boggling, isn't it? not offensive as such, just amazing that someone could be so slothful.

psychomum5 · 28/01/2010 10:34

I really cannot understand why anyone would want to go out shopping in PJ's, or bare foot (eugh at all the yacky stuff on the floor being trodden in).

I have spent the last few weeks in PJ's thru being ill, and confess that I did the GP's in them yesterday as still so poorly, but I would not dream of going into a shop wearing them. If I am too poorly to be dressed, I am too poorly to go shopping!!

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 28/01/2010 10:35

altho' i admit as a student i often put my trench over pjs and docs to pop downstairs to local shop to buy my observer and plain bread. [90's stereotype]

expatinscotland · 28/01/2010 10:35

I'm pretty lazy, but ffs. Sweatshirt, sweatpants, socks, Crocs, toothbrush, hairbrush (ponytail), face flannel.

Done.

(I shower at night).

belgo · 28/01/2010 10:35

I know a local dog owner who walks her dog in her pajamas and pink quilted dressing gown.

belgo · 28/01/2010 10:36

and furry slippers.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2010 10:36

I used to go barefoot a lot at home playing around.

But it was usually around 30 degrees.

Here?

Brrrr.

nickelbabe · 28/01/2010 10:38

i'm with LouIsOnAHighwayToHell: we used to nip across to the shops in PJs at Uni.

it's in cardiff, maybe it's near a Uni residential campus?

we did always put on a jumper or a coat, though and shoes.
but maybe some lazier students don't.

TigerFeet · 28/01/2010 10:39

oh god

in the past fortnight i have:

  1. Deliberately gone to the co-op in my slippers, it was late and i couldn't be arsed and dd2 was clusterfeeding and generally being angsty and i was flipping a bit
  1. Taken dd1 to school wearing jeans, my pyjama top and a coat over the top as we were running SERIOUSLY late.

my slippers look a bit like ballet shoes though

and you couldn't see my pyjama top under my coat

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/01/2010 10:44

Didn't there used to be a trend for this in Liverpool or somewhere - mums fropping thier kids off in designer (!) pjs but with full hair and make up on?

Sure I read that on MN a couple of years back.

I think it vile. How hard is it to put some clothes on. Yrgh at going out in pjs, lazy fuckers.

Sometimes I put pjs on in early evening to lounge around in, even then I feel ever so slightly I have given up on life and should be swanning round in caribou trimmed mules or summat.

Nancy66 · 28/01/2010 10:45

I think it's really scuzzy - how long does it take to pull a pair of jeans and a jumper on?

canella · 28/01/2010 10:46

getorf - its still the trend in Liverpool!!

seen it hundreds of times in the time i worked there! wanted to shake them and say - PUT SOME CLOTHES ON! ITS MIDDAY AND YOU'RE OUTSIDE!!!!

psychomum5 · 28/01/2010 10:53

actually tho, I suppose it can depend on what your PG's look like, you can get some very lovely looking ones that don;t look far off training clothes, and unless you have slippers on you often can;t tell.
