Why can't people just leave us alone

DP

That's a shame - I'm sure the Somalian people are desperate to get you on board.

onagar · 14/01/2010 17:59

Btw don't hate DP too much for these threads. Purposely or not she encourages the discussion of things that do need talking about.
If she didn't exist we'd have to invent her.

MIFLAW · 14/01/2010 18:01

Sorry - why does this need talking about?

MeAndMyMonkey · 14/01/2010 18:05

Onager you are right about the need to debate, but I pity her tbh, it must be horrible living in such a hate-filled prison of one's own making. And such hard work always having to summon up the energy to hate everyone, foreigners, gay people, etc. Tragic.

onagar · 14/01/2010 18:07

In this case because those preaching homophobia should be made to see how the rest of us feel about them. To get it out into the open that we are funding schools that teach it.

daftpunk · 14/01/2010 18:10

I have catholic beliefs, I take my children to church, I want that teaching carried on in school...

Parents/church/school,....we see ourselves as a triangle.

A closed shape.

noddyholder · 14/01/2010 18:13

Well considering there were reports that up tp 70% of faith school applications are bogus and people lie through their teeth to get their kids in there is a good chance DP's children are mixing with all sorts gay muslim atheist immigrants which is probably why they will end up teaching her

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 14/01/2010 18:15

So, if it turned out that your catholic school - like the ones mentioned above - wasn't teaching your kids that all gays were going to hell etc etc, would that be a problem for you, DP?

daftpunk · 14/01/2010 18:16

That's a very good point NH....people will attack me and my beliefs but will lie to get into my schools.

MIFLAW · 14/01/2010 18:19

"In this case because those preaching homophobia should be made to see how the rest of us feel about them. To get it out into the open that we are funding schools that teach it."

They KNOW how we feel about them. That's why they won't engage with us and want to have their own schools where they can do what they like.

Does anyone else find it ironic that Daftpunk's conception of a faith school (and a Catholic faith school at that, ie not even the official state religion) has a lot in common with the supposed desires of evil Muslim extremists?

She'll be asking for O'Sharia law before you know it.

noddyholder · 14/01/2010 18:19

I bought a house I couldn't afford to get my ds in so wouldn't read too much into it and if I'd had to lie about religion I would have and am atheist

EmilyGilmore · 14/01/2010 18:21

As far as I'm aware, it's not illegal to consider homosexuality to be an unusual practice is it? Why can people not have that opinion? Are we no longer allowed to express any views that differ from the mainstream liberal consensus without being called bigots? I don't think Catholic schools are out there advising kids to beat up gays are they??? But if their view is that it's an all-advised practice which differs from what God intends, then why should that bother anyone else?

Being rude or insulting towards people who are different from yourself is always a bad thing. But judging people's lifestyles is simply a fact of life - for god's sake, spend a few hours reading MN some time!

If you don't like the teaching offered in faith schools, there is a very simple solution - don't send your children to one.

By the way, a heck of a lot of you throwing the bigot word around are sounding pretty bigoted against religion if you ask me. It works both ways people.

EmilyGilmore · 14/01/2010 18:22

That should obviously read "ill-advised" !

Lizzylou · 14/01/2010 18:25

Your schools, DP?

As I said previously, I was taught tolerance in my Catholic schooling, taught about Homophobia/abortion/contraception etc by a Nun who was open to discussion and debate. 20 years ago.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 14/01/2010 18:25

I should know better. I never look at DP's threads. I should never have clicked that mouse.

Saying anything negative or supporting (and by supporting I include not doing anything to prevent) bullying against anyone or any group is fundamentally unChristian.

As with other sins, you can feel or think what you want, but you choose whether or not to say or do the action.

Lenin is eloquent, as is MP.

DP I think we all know your views and your arguments by now. Give it a rest.

Definitely voting Liberal now.

onagar · 14/01/2010 18:26

Holding the opinion is not illegal. Teaching it or using a position of trust to spread it is another matter.

pofarced · 14/01/2010 18:27

You are aware, dp, that many wonderful priests in both the catholic and anglican church, whom dedicate their lives to helping others, are Gay?

onagar · 14/01/2010 18:29

"If you don't like the teaching offered in faith schools, there is a very simple solution - don't send your children to one"

We've been over that one before. Many people don't get to freely choose schools and in any case you are given public funds to teach not groom.

MIFLAW · 14/01/2010 18:32

Emily

The yare State schools, paid for out of State money, provided by lots and lots of people who are not in the slightest bit convinced by your religion, and therefore these schools are - and should be - answerable to the State. It's a pity they exist at all but, if they must, then that's the way it has to be.

daftpunk · 14/01/2010 18:38

Leningrad called me ignorant and Morningpaper wants me banned...I'd hardly call that being eloquent...I'd call that being arsy and not able to debate with people.

OP posts:
morningpaper · 14/01/2010 18:41

You don't want to debate DaftPunk, you just want to whine about how you are a persecuted minority and should therefore be allowed to do things that are illegal in this country, that result in harm and discrimination towards people who are different to you, while being funded by the state. It's hardly a great start for a debate, is it?

pofarced · 14/01/2010 18:42

gosh dp you sound almost like you feel victimized. Any idea how much your opinions have made life incredibly difficult and sometimes dangerous for gay people over the years?

MillyR · 14/01/2010 18:44

I have only read the first seven pages of this thread, so I apologise if this has been said.

DP, you are being left alone. Nobody is forcing their views on you. You are an adult and so do not attend any school.

Society will not leave your children alone because they might be gay and we need to ensure that they receive equal treatment.

No child, at 5, thinks 'I am a Catholic and straight so I am going to a Catholic school.' That choice is made by the parents, and may well be inappropriate for the child; the likelihood of this having an impact on them is lessened by all schools having a shared set of moral values.
