I dont know if anyone started thread already. I just spotted this on DM
39 year old with 13children expecting 14th and there will be more coming.
I love big family, but after having two, we decided two is just enough but this seems abnormal, having twins or triplets is kind of her destiny

Disguss! What do you think? Would you have as many as her? I

Her husband is working...

Feel sorry for the kids most of those names are just bonkers. I can't believe they are all living in a 3 bed home and theres me worrying about squeezing dc4 into our 3 bed semi (which would make 6 in total with my step daughters)

suiledonne · 23/11/2009 12:23

As a member of a very large family I speak from experience here - so she gets what seems like a huge amount in tax credits - what do you think she does with it? She feeds and clothes her children.

I see plenty of threads on here with people wondering how to budget to feed a family of 3 or 4. Imagine the budget to feed a family that size.

Yes, it was her choice to have that number of children. Just like it is most peoples CHOICE to have fewer.

It will be a sad day for us if someone dictates how many children we can have.

They are the tax payers of the future.

I don't care what she named her children and although I think her reason is odd it is her choice.

mollybob · 23/11/2009 12:50

I'm one of those who always wanted twins - not going to happen now (in 3rd and last pregnancy)

Basically I hate being pregnant but love being a Mum and would love a bigger family but just can't imagine going through this again (currently 14 weeks and hyperemesis)

Of course a twin pregnancy may well be harder going still but I'll never know now. Not my destiny to have 4 or more kids

Her name choices though

MatthewBellamysMuse · 23/11/2009 12:51

suiledonne, you ask what she does with her (taxpayer funded) money - she spends £5,000 on toys for Christmas. That's an obscene sum for most people.

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 23/11/2009 12:58

I have no idea why but I am loving the name Peppermint.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 23/11/2009 12:59

wastingaway, by the time her children are old enough to be tax payers I suspect the state pension will be no more.

As to the question of who she is hurting, I would say
a) taxpayers
b) her children

She is clearly as mad as a box of frogs.
Very unhealthy to have such an obsession with babies to the extent that as each one grows you feel the need to replace it with a new one. You should have children to have people, not babies, iyswim.

And I agree that there should be a limit on the amount of benefits paid to prevent irresponible parents having ridiculous amounts of children, subsidised by taxpayers.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 23/11/2009 13:04

immigration is the answer to the 'who will support us in our old age' question not loons having a load of children they can't afford and can't look after responsibly.

Yes, I'm generalising but I think it is nigh on impossible to turn out a well-rounded, mentally healthy and resilient child in a family of 14.

I can barely do it with 1

pixiestix · 23/11/2009 13:05

Am I the only one loving the photo caption?

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 23/11/2009 13:06

14 children and their parents living in a 3 bedroomed house is positively Victorian. These children have no privacy or space.

suiledonne · 23/11/2009 13:07

£400 per child does seem excessive and is definitely more than I would ever spend but the woman is entitled to her tax credits and can spend them any way she chooses.

Where do you set a limit though. How can you say a fourth, fifth or sixth child deserves less than a first or second?

As to 'ridiculous amounts of children' - what is acceptable?
Are my younger siblings somehow less valuable just because they came later in a large family?

2babyblues · 23/11/2009 13:11

It makes me feel much more reasonable in my hope to have a third!!!!

suiledonne · 23/11/2009 13:16

It bothers me that so many people are pro-choice about how many children you have when it comes to limiting the number but so few are supportive of the choice to have more than the average.

I have 2 by the way and would consider a third but a very large family isn't my choice.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 23/11/2009 13:18

Ok, imvho 5 or 6 children is enough, if you can afford them without being largely subsidised by the taxpayer. Otherwise, I would say the limit for benefits should be 3.

Sure someone will come along and flame me, but anymore is a self gratifying exercise with little thought for the existing children.

wannaBe · 23/11/2009 13:21

if they're getting £800 a week in tax credits then I don't imagine her husband is paying any tax - £41600 a year in tax credits means he's either earning an absolute shitload of money, or he's earning an average wage and not paying any tax at all.

So no, not contributing tax-wise...

Botbot · 23/11/2009 13:22

pixiestix, it is my favourite thing about the whole article. Hilarious.

nappyaddict · 23/11/2009 13:27

I could understand the outrage if both parents were not working but that's not the case. She is like many of us on here. She chooses to be a SAHM whilst her DP goes out to work. She receives tax credits like many of us are entitled to. The only difference is she has chose to have a much bigger family.

deaddei · 23/11/2009 13:35

My MIL kept going till she had a girl- she had 10.
Poor sods when they go to school- they will have the piss taken out of them with those names.

onadietcokebreak · 23/11/2009 13:37

Firstly by continuing to have more children each pregnancy brings more health risks to both mother and Child.

To continue adding to her family when some of her sons sleep on airbed and the youngest in a travel cot is just selfish in my opinion. Whilst the family may not be in poverty due to the tax credits system I do think her living conditions are overcrowded.

Agree with lack of privacy for children. Plus space and quiet to do homework study?

wannaBe · 23/11/2009 13:41

But NA he might as well be working cash-in-hand given the amount they are earning in tax credits.

Assuming you can't earn any more in tax credits than you would actually pay in tax, he must be earning well in excess of £100000 a year and not paying tax on any of it.

If anyone else was doing that there would be outrage. Why should it be any more acceptable because they're having children for the hell of it.

nappyaddict · 23/11/2009 13:41

Yes I do agree with that. I don't think it is fair to have more than 4 kids in one room.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 23/11/2009 13:42

Nappyaddict he is not earning enough money to support his children, though.
That is left to the government.

Why should they be allowed to claim for child after child, when each time she gets pregnant she does so knowing that her dh is unable to financially support another baby.
Surely you are not defending a woman, living in a 3 bedroomed house with 14 children, receiving an enormous amount of money from the government, and vowing to continue until she has twins?
Liberal to the point of lunacy if you are.

juneybean · 23/11/2009 13:44

I was going to say it's no worse than the duggars until I saw she gets £800 a week, how ridiculous!

IrritatedMe · 23/11/2009 13:48

Deddei - I don't think they will be teased for those names at school. At this rate they will be the only pupils in there.

alwayslookingforanswers · 23/11/2009 13:48

there are LOTS of families with one or two children where the "income" from work isn't enough to support their children........1000's of families who rely on the WTC and CB to keep their family afloat.

I'd hazard a guess that a large proportion of those wouldn't have been able to "afford" children n the first place is they weren't going to get the child benefit and tax credits.

alwayslookingforanswers · 23/11/2009 13:49

"Assuming you can't earn any more in tax credits than you would actually pay in tax, "

ermm but it doesn't work that way - lots of people pay less tax than they get back in WTC.
