so the Tories are just one rung up the ladder from bnp? You may well have convinced alot of people to vote Labour just by saying that.
And what about the people already here that take advantage of the 'system', and I'm not meaning just immigrants, I mean anyone?

BobbingForPeachys · 20/10/2009 11:36

I think the problem with QT is what will happen if they didn't attend.

On paper it sems obvious- until they sort out their constitution then what on earth are they doing there- but assumng it i sorted then the BBC have a public mandate and much as I loathe the BNP they ahve ben elected in palces.... also not inviting them will give them excuses and power.

Personally i'd have them on but the first question would be from David Dimbleby about the constitution. The fact that they are not a legally constitued party needs to be made abundantly clear.

Twit · 20/10/2009 11:41

so could anyone tell me who is asking the questions, and whether they are any good? Or is it a surprise?

daftpunk · 20/10/2009 11:41

UKIP are just the tories on speed...and UKIP are just a few policies away from the BNP.

a bit sad that left-wingers felt so fucked off that they turned to the BNP......most of the BNPs votes came from ex labour supporters

Twit · 20/10/2009 11:43

yes, it is telling, especially when so many people just didn't bother to vote at all.

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 20/10/2009 11:45

Why would the SNP be seen as racist?

daftpunk · 20/10/2009 11:47

because they want independance...just like UKIP....but if you vote UKIP you're called racist.

Twit · 20/10/2009 11:49

is independence racism?

CatIsSleepy · 20/10/2009 11:51

oh i dunno my gut feeling id i don't want him to be on

simply because i don't want him to somehow fool anyone into thinking the bnp are in any way credible

gah
it's a toughie

abra1d · 20/10/2009 11:52

'and UKIP are just a few policies away from the BNP'

I don't think this is accurate. I don't think UKIP are anywhere near the BNP on racial matters.

daftpunk · 20/10/2009 11:53

could be seen that way couldn't it....what are Scotland saying..?

sod off England we're better on our own.

Twit · 20/10/2009 11:56

I see how it could lead to racism, in an ethnic cleansing way, but wanting independence from England isn't imho racist.

HuwEdwards · 20/10/2009 11:58

I think they should have him on BUT like they used to do with the then leader of Sinn Fein Gerry Adams, I think they should have a voice over, preferably in the style of Donald Duck.

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 20/10/2009 11:58

The SNP are not racist. I am sure there are racists who vote for them, same as there are racists who vote for all of the parties.

They are nationalist, which is absolutely nothing to do with racism. Their policies do not exclude on the basis of race, they don't talk about repatriating people or about foreigners (supposedly) taking our jobs, they are not anti-women.

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 20/10/2009 11:59

Twit - ethnic cleansing? Eh? I don't understand that point.

daftpunk · 20/10/2009 12:00

i agree.....Scotland are happily telling us to poke it...why can't the BNP say that to immigrants..?

not fair is it

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 20/10/2009 12:03

Because telling immigrants that is racist.

Wanting Scotland to have a go at independence is not racist. It is about not being told what to do by another country. It is nothing to do with skin colour or origin. The SNP aren't planning on chucking out foreign people.

Twit · 20/10/2009 12:06

As I have said I am way out of my league here, I am trying to learn more about politcs and being in this thread is helping.

I meant that independence could in theory lead to people who are not Scottish being pushed out. It was not the best way of putting it and I apologise for that. I was trying to say that although it could lead to racism it might not, but that voting bnp will lead to racism (and many other things)

[am all of a dither now]

Nancy66 · 20/10/2009 12:13

The QT panel do not know the questions in advance.

the BBC aren't stupid - this will give them their highest viewer ratings ever for QT

bodycolder · 20/10/2009 12:14

They should have him on but tbh if anyone civilised would sit on a panel with him I would be very surprised. So would be great to see him sitting there alone.

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 20/10/2009 12:17

Twit - here is an interesting atricle about how the SNP wants people to come into Scotland because of the declining population.

Here

and here

electra · 20/10/2009 12:24

Haven't read whole thread but;

'Nationality is bunkum it really is, my last child has a Welsh birth cert because we'd moved 50 miles down the road, but is he in any way different from the rest of us English peachy's? of course not! It's a bogus construct and almost as ridiculous a concept as indigenous British. I am a mongrel and proud of it- the widest genetic basis being, of course, the soundest for the future of humanity.'

Couldn't agree, more peachy! I hate those 'I'm English and proud' groups on facebook. Fascists need to get a life as there is obviously something missing from theirs. I agree with Lily Allen 'a whole where your soul should be...'

And on the issue of NG, also agree if they've invited him on the programme there is not much anyone can do to stop him speaking and he should be allowed to express his 'opinions'.

electra · 20/10/2009 12:25

sorry I meant 'hole'!!

MIFLAW · 20/10/2009 12:31

This whole argument seems (I confess I haven't read every single response) to revolve around whether intellectual freedom requires us to listen to fascists on public television.

No one seems to have questioned why this joke party is being given any airtime at all when it is SO FUCKING TINY.

Who's on next week? The Trottskyite Communist Party? What's left of the Monster Raving Loonies? The Flat Earth Society? Someone mentioned Sinn Fein earlier - at least they managed to get two MPS!

This is meant to be a serious political and current affairs programme. Why is a no-mark like Griffin being allowed to drag his knuckles across the floor of the studio?

I loathe him as a racist and pseudo-fascist but even more fundamentally I object to his presence on this panel because he is an insignificant little shit.
