suprised as this will affect us
wonder if they will all be allowed over here now.
can we keep taking all these people, considering the goverment is talking about cutting education due to lack of money. it isn't like they are fleeing a war torn country.

dwindling not swindling

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 12:31

exactly..people who welcome immigrants with open arms arn't really effected by them....they're not living on a council estate full of them, maybe they can still get into the schools they want, ...it's the same old story.....

noddyholder · 24/09/2009 12:44

It affects us all politics does that!I am reliant on the NHS 100% as I have had 2 transplants and have ongoing serious health issues. But it is not as small as that it is the bigger picture I am looking at it isn't just about me today.

pofacedandproud · 24/09/2009 12:45

I never understand why people get so het up about 'immigrants' taking up resources in the UK, but not so bothered about huge corporations doing tax avoidance to the tune of billions, that's right, billions. I wonder who costs this country more?

tax avoidance

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 13:05

noddyholder...i am very sorry to hear about your health problems.

but you have to understand that when someone like me says things like "we can't keep letting them in"...that isn't being racist.
every country has an immigration policy....france openly admit they don't bloody want them...no other country seems to want them either...why should we have them..?
we have taken enough of them..

have you been down the Edgware rd lately..?

it's like walking through Beirut..

Othersideofthechannel · 24/09/2009 13:06

Many of the people who left Afghanistan left because of the treatment of women and other abuses.

southeastastra · 24/09/2009 13:12

our council estates aren't full of immigrants but people whose families haven't worked for three generations yet they still keep on having kids. know which i'd prefer.

btw here in the south east we have lots of immigrants they work.

scaryteacher · 24/09/2009 13:17

Evasion is illegal, but tax avoidance is legitimate. HMRC and the Treasury need to change the rules to close the loopholes; but I bet some of them are EU law and can't be changed.

More to the point is the billions that is lost due to lack of a joined up computer system which enables benefit fraud to occur.

They're not statistics they're people.

HUMANITY.

Walk a few steps in any of their shoes[if they have any]and then see how you feel it's cliched but bloody true.

KittyCorncrake · 24/09/2009 13:35

Has anyone asked them why they want to come to the UK, when they could claim asylum in France, or any of the other countries they have come from? Would be interested to hear their explanations, rather than just making assumptions.
All the sheeple on this thread who have clearly not grasped the reality of this - you are encouraging people traficking which causes enormous misery.

but they don't walk a few steps do they..

they walk 20 million steps to get here...if they were genuine they would stop walking when they got to turkey..

southeastastra · 24/09/2009 13:36

i'm still wondering if the children will be reunited with their parents.

pofacedandproud · 24/09/2009 13:38

There but for the grace of God dp, do you ever think about that? How lucky you are?

Othersideofthechannel · 24/09/2009 13:40

The reasons I mentioned in my post this morning were obtained by interviewing residents of the Sangatte Red Cross centre in 2002.

-no ID cards in UK
-friends and family already in UK
-knowledge of the language
-once asylum has been requested, the UK finds accomodation for the asylum seekers while their request is processed but this doesn't happen in France.

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 13:49

i have never once said they should stay in a country where they are living in constant fear....all i am saying is ...why do they cross so many other safe countries to get here..?

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 13:51

aibu..?

no...i'm not.

mehdismummy · 24/09/2009 14:01

they do however have lovely restuarants down the edgware rd!!

southeastastra · 24/09/2009 14:14

you talking to yourself dp?

lol edgware road has always been comsmopolitan hasn't it.

Anniek · 24/09/2009 14:16

I'm with the other poster, who made a comment about generations of English, born and bred who don't work who've never worked.

I would love someone to work out how much the "English" take of resources from this country, and how much they contribute and compare that to the immigrants.

We have one pot which too many are taking out of, but not enough of all kinds are putting in to.

That is the issue which needs addressing!

daftpunk · 24/09/2009 14:27

we have loads of home grown benefit scroungers? really....?

that's hardly a mind blowing observation is it....

come on...do better than that
