I hope it's not as serious as it sounds

I know its a complex issue but I have know of a few murderers who committed their crimes to become notorious and they only way that can be done is through reporting. There is no sense of hell and damnation, no fear of hanging, no fear of public or police brutality. They even read that other think this practice is acceptable i.e. Jonathan King and Gary Glitter. A little bit of me worries continue there vile acts as they don't feel the pain of their victims. I'm going to stop posting now as its upsetting me to think about it.

need for notoriety is borne out of a dysfunctional psychological state not what the papers write or do.yes they may be the medium that reports but they didn't cause the need for notoriety.that originates psychologically

Tend to agree with SM - though I still think anyone wanting to read these salacious 'newspapers' is pretty sick

I think the effects of the reporting are mainly upon those who have no guilt but for one reason or another have to live with this longterm- victims, kids who were at the nursery but jnot personally attacked, the famillies of both the vctims and the perpetrator........... those wondering why didn't we know / do soemthing different when the media has mved onto the next thing.

I'm not certain it was just competitve sadding; if my kids were in any way at risk i'd want to look in the eyues of the person who caused that. Swearing/ spitting etc ain't my thing, but yes i do think I would feel that need.

I think reports of the court hearing mentioned how dignified and controlled the actual parents of children at the nursery were.

Dunno about the mob thing, in a way it's entirely reasonable for people to show their disapproval - and a healthy thing for society to show our disgust at people who do such dreadful things.

But then again, I remember when there was all that hysteria about peadophiles living next door and a mob of people on some estate in (IIRC) Plymouth trying to hound out someone they thought might be such a person. (Around the time of that story about people attacking the house of a paediatrician because they couldn't understand long words - although apparently that's a myth.)

GP I talked to said some of the people who were standing so proudly at the head of the crowd in the TV news bulletins and on the front pages were in fact under investigation by SS themselves, albeit for neglect/violence rather than sexual abuse.
