SJP having twins via a surrogate mother - is she the first high profile celeb to do this?

story here

This should probably be in sleb twaddle, but I think it's actually interesting as I can't think of any other celeb who has done this (and it been publicised anyway).

Sorry for the DM link too!

There is a thread about this in sleb twaddle, but Dennis Quaid's twins were via a surrogate.

maybe her age has made it difficult/impossivle to conceive? she is in her 40s i think.

Lulumama · 29/04/2009 16:47

she has had a child the usual way before though riven.

CoteDAzur · 29/04/2009 16:48

Secondary infertility? They already have a child, iirc.

belgo · 29/04/2009 16:49

she's in her mid-forties. I assume it's due to her age they've chosen surrogacy.

Dennis Quaid's twins were made very ill shortly after birth by being given a huge overdose of heparin by a nurse.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 29/04/2009 16:52

Why would having a surrogate be because of her age? Wouldn't her eggs still be used?

MadameCastafiore · 29/04/2009 16:54

I reckon because her and Mattie aren't a real couple and don't have sex!

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 29/04/2009 16:57

A case of don't fancy yours much?

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 29/04/2009 16:58

Actually that was mean wasn't it, she is v stylish, even if she did seriously luck out nabbing Ferris Bueller!

sweetheart · 29/04/2009 16:59

Totally off the point but OMG - they are possibly the most unattractive couple ever!

muffle · 29/04/2009 17:01

Whatsisname who played Frasier had baby using a surrogate.

belgo · 29/04/2009 17:03

Ricky Martin has twin boys from a surrogate.

MadameCastafiore · 29/04/2009 17:54

Hmmmmmm but we know why Ricky had them by surrogate don't we!

MrsFreud · 29/04/2009 18:03

Imagine being a surrogate for twins though. That really is a sacrifice too far. I've seen what twins does to a woman's body, and if there were no babies for me at the end of it...no amount of money could make up for those stretch marks!!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 29/04/2009 18:16

This thread is mean. From what I read they tried unsuccessfully to have another baby for several years. I don't think many women would choose surrogacy over carrying their own child out of choice.
And they are not ugly at all. SJP is unconventionally gorgeous and don't you remember Ferris Bueller's day off? Matthew Broderick is faded slightly but used to be gorgeous!

potplant · 29/04/2009 18:26

I think its great that they are being so open about it. Makes you wonder about other pushing 50 slebs who inexplicably produce babies.

AnyFucker · 29/04/2009 18:31

aww, yes its mean

we don't know why they are using a surrogate, they could have had a horrendous time with infertility as far as we know

at least they are not telling ridiculous lies that nobody believes

compo · 29/04/2009 18:33

god I wish I had her figure!

MsMargotBeauregarde · 29/04/2009 18:46

Good for them. They said a few times that they hoped James would have a sibling.

Marica Cross (Bree van de Kamp) carried her twins but the eggs were from a donor.

bamboostalks · 29/04/2009 18:48

Great match then, they both have her red hair I think. Did she admit that?

MsMargotBeauregarde · 29/04/2009 18:49

She did. She said it was donor eggs her husbands sperm. Hadn't seen pictures of the babies, so if they both have red hair that is great!

MsMargotBeauregarde · 29/04/2009 18:51

Plus, they called their son James, not Geronimo or something (actually, I quite like Geronimo!) but you know what I mean.

Buda · 29/04/2009 18:51

I am almost 45 and have one child through IVF. I am in early menopause so my only chance to have another would be the hugely generous gift of surrogacy. I would imagine that SJP is the same. I am so envious in some ways.

Feeling very broody today too as a good friend had a baby girl this afternoon - her 4th! And my youngest sis is due in next couple of weeks.

bamboostalks · 29/04/2009 18:52

I like it that she is so open. I really wonder about all these twins like J Lo, Julia Roberts and Brangelina. Surely they must be ivf? There are so many about now.
