I am sitting here crying.............Poor DC and his family....

blueshoes · 25/02/2009 10:54

I stumbled across it this morning. Really really sad for their family.

edam · 25/02/2009 10:57

Poor boy. Whatever happens in the next election, we'll have a leader who has experienced the death of a child.

epithet · 25/02/2009 10:59

I am shocked and upset to hear this .

epithet · 25/02/2009 11:00

Oops, cut myself off - was going on to say I wish them all the strength and love they need. So awful that this can happen.

spongebrainbigpants · 25/02/2009 11:03

edam, we already have - Gordon Brown lost his first child .

So sad, I had no idea that Ivan's condition was life threatening/limiting.

Devastating.

bunny3 · 25/02/2009 11:03

for them all. Heartbreaking.

I really hope the Press show some respect and mercy.

morningpaper · 25/02/2009 11:04

oh how tragic

I am so sorry

edam · 25/02/2009 11:05

As a person with epilepsy, news like this always makes me bloody grateful that as far as the condition goes, I'm one of the very lucky ones who is largely unaffected in terms of day to day life. Oh, and epilepsy alone is not the same as a terminal illness, but does carry a slightly higher risk of death.

When I was first diagnosed, I couldn't bear to hear my sister talking about work - she's a learning disability nurse and many of her patients have epilepsy (often with a range of other problems too).

edam · 25/02/2009 11:07

Oh yes, I know about Brown's daughter, should have said 'still'.

It was terrible when Jennifer was born, all the newspapers churned out fluffy articles about life as a dad while it was clear she might be in real trouble, poor love.

LouMacca · 25/02/2009 11:10

Can't comprehend how it would feel to loose a child. Must be just utterly utterly dreadful. Deepest sympathy to all.

smugmumofboys · 25/02/2009 11:23

I've only just seen this. So,so sad.

I really hope that the Camerons are allowed to grieve in peace. My thoughts are with them.

pigleto · 25/02/2009 11:25

What terribly sad news. I wish his family strength.

Jux · 25/02/2009 11:25

RIP Ivan.

My thoughts are with his family.

tatt · 25/02/2009 11:27

It's very sad - and the way that the other politicians have dealt with it surely an example to follow. There has been nothing but sympathy and cancelling some of the normal debate, which is inappropriate.

Describing the child as disabled is simply a way of identifying them quickly. It also perhaps provides some clue for the sudden shock.

Saker · 25/02/2009 11:29

What a sad thing to happen, I am really sorry for the family.

PheasantPlucker · 25/02/2009 11:30

I was so very sad to hear this on the news this morning.

Unquiet Dad, can I echo 2Shoes thanks to you for clarifying SUDEP and different types/classifications of epilepsy. (it's something very close to home for me)
