This is dreadful. Poor family. I hope they are left to grieve in peace, as they have requested.

TheThoughtPolice · 25/02/2009 10:36

How sad

I'm a bit at the BBC headline of "Cameron's disabled son Ivan dies". It doesn't quite sit right with me, aside from the fact it puts the disability before the person it just seems wrong for a headline. If one of his other non-disabled children had died then they would just say 'Cameron's son * dies'. By all means discuss the fact that Ivan had CP & epilepsy in the body of the story but putting it in the header almost suggests to me 'it's ok, the kid was disabled anyway'. Which is grim.

Perhaps I'm beig over sensitive.

kettlechip · 25/02/2009 10:36

I've just seen the news headline and am so shocked - it is incredibly sad news.
It really brings it home how precious and fragile life is.

BananaSkin · 25/02/2009 10:36

Agree Belgianbun and Nabster.

So sad, and seems to have been so sudden too.

mm22bys · 25/02/2009 10:38

I am so sad, for the Camerons and little Ivan.

My thoughts and prayers are with them, at this time and going forward too.

princessmel · 25/02/2009 10:38

Talking about it on This Morning

Nabster · 25/02/2009 10:38

TTP - It really doesn't suggest that at all.

TheThoughtPolice · 25/02/2009 10:40

mentioning it seems so unnecessary though. Feels more like a tabloid headline rather than something from the beeb

Penthesileia · 25/02/2009 10:40

Poor wee soul.

So unbearably sad that any parent should live to grieve for their child.

duchesse · 25/02/2009 10:42

Maybe they changed it in case people thought it was the other little boy who had died?

kettlechip · 25/02/2009 10:44

TTP - I didn't read it that way at all either.

LadyOfWaffle · 25/02/2009 10:44

My heart goes out to them

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 25/02/2009 10:44

Mentioning disabled in the headline is unnecessary, he was Cameron's son end of.

this is desperately sad and I hope they get to grieve in private.

2shoes · 25/02/2009 10:45

then it should be "son who was disbled"

NorkyButNice · 25/02/2009 10:45

How awful

McDreamy · 25/02/2009 10:48

How terribly sad

jenk1 · 25/02/2009 10:49

i just saw in on this morning,my heart goes out to them, so

RIP IVAN.

wilbur · 25/02/2009 10:49

How terribly sad. He will leave a huge gap in their lives.

muffle · 25/02/2009 10:50

Yes I can understand it and I don't think it's a bad headline - it lets you know that it is that particular son and suggests that (as is the case) his death was to do with his medical conditions. It sums up information that you can go on to read in the article, which is what a headline should do. And I don't think there is any suggestion that it is any less tragic because of his disability.

ohdearwhatamess · 25/02/2009 10:50

How desperately sad.

duchesse · 25/02/2009 10:50

2shoes- it is the essence of headlines to be short, pithy and pared down. Detail gets lost by necessity.

mummypig · 25/02/2009 10:52

It's very sad .

The BBC News headline has changed back to 'eldest' as far as I can see.

The Epilepsy Action site has a little note of sympathy on it as well.

madhairday · 25/02/2009 10:52

So desperately sad

JentlyDoesIt · 25/02/2009 10:52

It is such terribly sad news. I heard it whilst out this morning and my heart just dropped. He has the same name as DS so to hear "Ivan has died" whilst in a shop does make you stop...

I also hope the press leave them alone for a while to grieve.
