He suffered from CP and severe epilepsy-so definitely life-threatening, yes. My guess is that he died from a seizure.

He had cerebal palsy and epilepsy, I don't know if they were expected to be life limiting or not. As Forever said, the Camerons have projected such a positive image that I for one never imagined his condition was that serious. In fact I have seen speculation here and elsewhere (which I did not share) that his disabilities could not have been all that serious.

So so sad

Had no idea either that he was at such risk.

. Hope they are left alone to grieve.

Politics and all else aside - this is a terrible sadness for the family - as somebody said earlier I hope the family will be allowed to grieve in private without press intrusion

Oh what a shock. My heart leapt when I read this thread title and I don't even know the man. Very sad and my heart goes out to the family.

I just read this on BBC News online. How terribly sad for the whole family. My heart goes out to them

So, so sad. I read a biography of David Cameron recently, and I was so moved by the way they have coped with all the issues surrounding Ivan's disabilities. DC admitted it had opened his eyes, and taught him a lot about how difficult it can be getting help, as a parent of a disabled child.

So sad for the family. Like others have said, I hope they get to celebrate his short life, and grieve, in private.

Very sad. The Guardian's article on this has some detail about how much Ivan's condition affected him.

How awful for them, the poor love.

Of course politics is irrelevant to this - and while I may have little time for DC's politics, I have always admired the way he's so public about his love for his kids and so positive about Ivan. Never done in a publicity-seeking way, just that he does seems to see being a father as such a big part of his life, and I think his attitude does a lot to support and promote disability and SN issues.

I'm so sorry for them all.

Poor, poor family. This is just so sad.

I hope the tone of the reporting doesn't lead people to think that epilepsy is a terminal condition.

Probably a good time to invite people to see the explanation of SUDEP at the Epilepsy Action site here.

I must declare a personal interest, and it's the charity I support as well.

I am in tears. That has really made me so sad. He was the same age as my son.

So sad for the whole family .

Echo what Leagcy said.

How cruelly painful for them. I have always admired the way he has talked about his children openly without forcing the issue, Ivan in particular, and felt he displayed his genuine drive to deal with the NHS from the point of view as a father and patient not just a disconnected politician.

I hope they are left in peace too and hope little Ivan's siblings are having a lot of cuddles. I am sure they are.

UnquietDad thank you for posting that, dd has cp and epilepsy and for her it is not life threatning.
