Just wondered. A little bit political...
a) how did you vote last time (if at all?)
b) how will you vote this time (if at all)?
c) what to you is the deciding issue of this election?
d) if you had to make love (not war) with one politician (past, present, senior or backbench?) who would it be?

Thats true, but a lot of people really don't agree with anyone of it , then feel like hypocrites if they vote. I have very mixed feelings, I agree with a lot of Lib dems, but I also agree with some points from other parties. But thats the problems though is they can all have good points.

boris J who's that then?

jem - do u vote for ur DH and if so how did u get him to sign his vote over? Dh won't let me vote on his belaf by proxy or something it is, my mum has it for my dad.

jemimah · 16/04/2005 21:57

I didn't even know anything about how he votes. Thats bad me not knowing isn't it!

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 21:58

munz, I think you and dh are brave.

The Greens are generally against the European Federal State because as proposed at the moment it is not sustainable or democratic. We believe that decisions should be made a close to home as possible. We are also against the war in Iraq.

hmm that's good I am in favour of the UK pulling away from europe and getting a better deal from them, it's not bllomin fair we put the most money in and get he least out, now if we were jacques ciraque now we'd have things the otehr way around.

I do like the idea of lower taxes, either that or better wages, but to increase the wages would increase taxes (inevitably as income tax revenue would be higher for the governemt) and smaller businesses surely wouldn't be able to cope with paying a higher wage. althou I hear labour wants to put the minimum wages up to 5.35 p/h.

unfortunatly i've only really known a labour governemt and I don't like them, all I see them doing maily is bad immigration the assulum is a mess, eurpoe are taking over, and we have so much red tape/bearecrats it's unbeliveable.

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 22:05

munz, the Greens want to abolish income tax and replace it with a tax on consumption. Although we are relaxed on asylum.

munz · 16/04/2005 22:05

and whilst i'm at it, if borrowing is at an all time low do u think we could have some of the benifits as well? like lower taxes or something? I'm all for public spending if it gets to the ppl a the bottom not the fat cats at the top. I thought we were metn to have more hositals and police in my area we've had none of it - in fac the local A&E has become a 8-8 place with the nearest hospital 60 miles away with an a&e, not to mention maternity unit the closest one for anything other than a straight forward delivery is in cardiff (at least that's where 2 of my friends were taken to) that's over 2 hours away.

munz · 16/04/2005 22:07

thanks ions i'll have a look, I'd love tighter immigration and asilum.
boris j - r u sure hon? do u want my glasses? lol.

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 22:12

Sorry, munz, we are relaxed about asylum i.e. would not restrict it . But we would also seek to stop a lot of the things that cause refugee crises in the first place i.e ridiculous wars, the arms trade, international debt etc. And we would allow asylum seekers to work and contribute to society rather than have to live on benefits or charity.

jemimah · 16/04/2005 22:17

Do I sound bad for saying there is only a certain amount of room in this country, its cramped enough for us?

lavenderrr · 16/04/2005 22:18

a) Conservative
b) Conservative
c) always do
d) wouldn't do this

piffpaffpuff · 16/04/2005 22:21

jem - no

Tinker · 16/04/2005 22:27

You might want to look at this thread jemimah

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 22:29

Jemimah, there is a difference between asylum seeker/refugees (i.e. people who have or claim to have suffered violence and persecution at home and for whom it would be too dangerous to return) and those who come here for economic or family reasons.

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 22:33

also look at the Refugee Council website www.refugeecouncil.org.uk (sorry, doughnut about links) for some stats and stories about asylum and refugees in the U.K.

I think there is a case for certain restrictions on work permits - for example being issued for IT work when loads of IT people are out of work. And obviously forced marriage needs adressing.

jemimah · 16/04/2005 22:34

I'm not saying that I don't feel bad for people who aren't as fortunate as you or I. But I don't know why what I put was wrong?

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 22:36

jemimah, it's not just about feeling bad for people, it's about sharing what we have. Compared to most of the world we live like kings. The tricky part is finding a sustainable way to do it.

jemimah · 16/04/2005 22:39

Yes, but don't you think we can share too much, well actually people take too much. I know about having life hard. I grew up with hardly any money and I have been abused so I'd say I know what its like to have it tough, but you have to try to make your own life. You can't always expect handouts.

ionesmum · 16/04/2005 22:42

Sorry to hear what a tough time you've had .

Most asylum seekers would work if they could. They can't atm by law. It's not their fault if they have to live on the state.

jemimah · 16/04/2005 22:45

I don't think its their fault. Its what the government allow and if you are in a bad situation yes you'd say thank you very much. But the letting everyone in here is the quick fix. They need countries like us to help them sort out the running of their countries. Not that I know our government would know how to do a good job. Its frustrating when you know what would help and you want to help, but the government do things in a completely different way!

munz · 17/04/2005 08:50

i'm afraid i'm with jem on that one, to my mind, I ahve to problem with those coming over if they are genuinly persecuted and want to work in the county, but what i DO have a MAJOR problem with is spongers coming into the counrty with a view to expolit the benifits system and houseing/ NHS leaving the 'british' people high and dry with up bloody paying for it all the time. I have nothing either against arranged marriages within muslim communitys going to their 'home land' (I say that loosely as I only mean the fmaily home lands iycwim) and marrying a girl and bringin her over as long as he can provide for his wife - but I do have a problem with said person brining over all the blood relevtives from moter and father to 2nd adn3rd cousins so the whole lot is here claiming assilum. now i've got muslim friends, 2 of which married abroad and only brought their wives home, they were genuine loved the woman and everything, they struggled with all the red tape to get their wives over here so why is it so easy for the bogus to come over?

and not to mention when I was 19 and living in bradford I was unemployed and after spending all of my saving to live on I decided reluctantly to sign on, anyhow I filled in my forms went along asn was told no sorry you are not entitled to anything except a NI stamp contribution which goes straight to the government as u haven't paid enought taxes/stamp, and my DH (then DP was earning too much - a whole £160 per week!!!) anyhow of course I didn't earn enought as the said period she mentioned I was at college finishing my education whilst working every saturday and sunday on top so I didn't live off my parents. now in the next que along however was a woman (infact the whole que was full of women like this one) who couldn't utter a word of english quite obviously couldbn't bring anything to the work place as she couldn't speak english and the staff in the job centre bent over backwards to accomodate her giving her all the benifits going. now I ask u where is the justice in that? am I rasist in general no, as I say no probs with otehr communitys but I do have a problem with bogus/illegal immigrants. and don't even get me started on that bloke who ran over the poor child a few months ago after being refuse assilum three/four times before he actually killed a boy with no MOT/TAX/INS - where is the justice. I feel TB puts too much emphisis on how we appear to others and gives into eurpoe all the time making us take in ppl we don't always want to have.

(sorry it's so long I just had to vent that out) also no offense intended to anyone apologies if I have offened.
