Tragic story.
Agree though about taking DCS on his 'date'.FFS.
Would find it very hard to forgive, tbh.
And the bit on the side will have to live with it for ever.
Affairs are usually found out. What a tragedy for it to be like this.

pagwatch · 19/02/2009 10:47

oh aitch don't piss on the parade.
one of the joys of mumsnet is the ability to read tabloid junk on line and chtter about it whilst still being able to be sniffy about tabloid wankers.

get with the programe girlfriend

AitchTwoOh · 19/02/2009 10:50

lol. i think he's a sod for taking his wee kids out to meet his bit on the side. i actually feel unsurprisingly sympathetic to him, despite his unimaginable pain.

AitchTwoOh · 19/02/2009 10:50

UNsympathetic, sorry.

BananaSkin · 19/02/2009 10:50

Blimey you lot are generous hearted. Yes it could have happened if he had let go to sneeze, but let's face it, if he hadn't been taking his mistress to the sea it wouldn't have happened at all. I would have been furious to think my DH had taken my children out for the day to spend time with another woman without this happening. I imagine he was a bit more distracted if out with the other woman.

TheThoughtPolice · 19/02/2009 10:53

So, Aitch, I should only post here if I agree with an article. I'm not allowed to say that it is sensationalist crap ? Hmmm, interesting theory. So do you only post on threads where you agree with the OP, or threads where your opinions do not clash with the general masses (although in this case it would seem that the I do agree with the masses on this one), or indeed where there is a load of balls spouted in a link and you beleive it to be about as true as the Loch Ness monster ?

Novel idea.

My buggy blew along a raised path one time and fell into a bush

It was very light and the baby wasn't in it thankfully. Crappy brake just hadn't engaged properly. I went and got a decent pram a few days later with a decent brake that worked.

It could have happened to anyone. Most of us are lucky, some are not.

I can't imagine how awful the parents must be feeling, not sure if I could cope at all losing a child, let alone finding out my husband wasn't the man I thought he was at the same time.

Wishing them all peace really though it may be a long time coming.

I feel quite secure in judging a man who takes his two infant children on a date with his mistress, and then neglects to look after them sufficiently that the buggy falls into the sea and one dies.

No, I don't think that is his deserved "punishment" because he isn't the one to suffer. His wife and children are.

And yes I would judge a mother in exactly the same circumstances.

And what RubyRoja said.

And not that dragging the McCanns up is particularly relevant, but in answer to that point made earlier, I felt pretty strongly about them too.

TheThoughtPolice · 19/02/2009 10:59

I had a mcclaren when DD was small and the brakes were shite.

Surfermum · 19/02/2009 11:02

The beach is a dangerous place. Every year when I used to lifeguard we had loads of lost children to search for. Were they always Dads that we reunited them with? No, there were plenty of mums at the beach on their own who lost their children. It's not just the men who can take their eye off the ball.

What a sad story .

Poor family.

Mistress slant is irrelevant IMO.

Frea winds would carry a buggy even with brakes on.

'It was a tragic accident. The buggy just slipped away from them on a sloping bit of pathway and that was it."' take away the mistress bit and really, iot could happen to anyone. The marital stuff iss between him and his family.

Mumwas telling me that many years ago she was apssing the docks at home and a buggy fell in; Mum cant swim but a van pulled up,chap dove in and pulled the buggy out, child unharmed. Sadly it clearly does happen. A few years later a preschooler died in the same docks as a paper girl left the garden agte open (reputedly) and child was out...... for siome reason we have lost our fear of water and thats bad

FAQinglovely · 19/02/2009 11:15

oh thank you for posting that Fio - I was just about to come and comment about these "cliff" comments

I have to confess I would not have thought a 15ft drop to the sea was a "cliff" - when I think cliffs I think these which I used to frequent as a 5yr old with my (then) 8yr old brother !

AitchTwoOh · 19/02/2009 11:17

thoughtpolice, you were speculating in the most unlovely way about the nature of the man's marriage and then complaininig about tabloids. if you can't see the irony...

As an aside, how could anyone having an affair think that they would be safe taking their children out on a date with the mistress?

A two year old would almost certainly have the vocabulary to be able to vocalize that they'd been out with Daddy/mummy and ?

Even if the child is young/non verbal at the time the relationship begins, you can never be sure when that child will decide to drop in that little snippet of information can you?

So ve risky thing to do anyway.

I read one article that said she was a "friend of the family" (as well as mistress) so perhaps she knew that they were going out together, but didn't know that they "were" together iykwim.
