Its 'issues' aitch hunny. Who knows why people hold their views, lots of reasons I guess.
There have been lots of assumptions presented as 'facts'and thats what I object to. The only fact we know is that a child died as a result of a tragic accident.

AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2009 11:51

lol, sgb.
it's betrayal i have a problem with, not polygamy.

flummery · 21/02/2009 11:56

"The only fact we know is that a child died as a result of a tragic accident."

Actually, staggerlee, we don't even know that. We know that a child died, the rest is speculation based on each posters reading of what is reported.

AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2009 12:00

true, flum.

i am reporting your post calling me hunny, staggerlee. you twat.

Can I report myself for a missed apostrophe?

HMC · 21/02/2009 12:03

I fail to see what relevance this has. It sounds like a freak accident that could happen to anyone.

mshadowsisfab · 21/02/2009 12:04

ffs the mans child died, yet you have no sympathy for him.

UnquietDad · 21/02/2009 12:04

If he had let go of the buggy to light a fag, I bet rabid anti-smokers (of whom I am one) would be all over this story "proving" that his nicotine addiction had caused his daughter's death.

mshadowsisfab · 21/02/2009 12:06

i reckon if it had been a woman, every one would have been gussing in their symapathy....mn can be very anti men sometimes.

flummery · 21/02/2009 12:10

I wouldn't count on it, mshadowisfab. A baby died in Adelaide, Australia, last year when his mother let go of the pram to answer her mobile, then turned her back on it to write down a message.

This thread has been really split between those who see it as just a tragic accident, those who blame him and those who think it's all very sad and a bit unclear. The response to the Adelaide incident was about the same. Many people felt the mother was entirely to blame.

flummery · 21/02/2009 12:12

Sorry, first paragraph needs another sentence:

The pram rolled away into the river while she was on the phone.

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 21/02/2009 12:13

Like I said earlier. stupid people are always desperate to blame someone for accidents, because if they can scream and howl and wet their pants over the wickedness of the bereaved parents, it makes them feel safer ie that because they don't smoke/own a mobile phone/have sex/ever have one thought about anything other than their DC then nothing bad will happen.

mshadowsisfab · 21/02/2009 12:15

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine very good point(apart from the stupid word) I can't understand why people feel they have to judge this man...
I bet every one on this thread has taken their eye of the ball at sometime.

AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2009 12:17

yes, you do keep saying that sgb. i'm not sure it's completely relevant to this thread weher for the last few pages the tone has, where possible, been more reflective. the hsng em high element is largely gone.

i'm not unsympathetic to the man, btw, far from it. but i am less sympathetic than i am to the mother.

AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2009 12:19

it is not 'eye off the ball' with a heavy buggy (two kids), the sea, and aa 15ft drop. it's a moment of horrible negligence.

staggerlee · 21/02/2009 12:20

Ouch Aitch. Twat is a very rude thing to call another lady

AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2009 12:22
Grin
AitchTwoOh · 21/02/2009 12:24

(well, presumably several moments of negligence, thinking about it).

flummery, that was a very interesting post you wrote btw some time ago.

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 21/02/2009 12:24

My God, what a sad story. He was cheating obviously but at least his 'mistress' also leapt straight into the water. Not evil people. Just very very unlucky.

I took my eye off the ball the other day and my son put a piece of mushy melon in the toaster and nearly electrocuted himself.

I feel sorry for him, as well as the child's mum.

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 21/02/2009 12:25

That is very SGB

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 21/02/2009 12:25

*True

flummery · 21/02/2009 12:31

sgb, I totally agree about the blame factor, especially the idea that being able to assign blame has a protective element.

I don't think it's necessarily better to think that an accident should go unexamined out of sympathy.

Accidents are not always what they initially seem and deserve scrutiny. I'm not suggesting that's the case with this incident.

expatinscotland · 21/02/2009 12:34

I've got no 'ishoos' with people and infidelity (not just men) because for me, it's a dealbreaker if my spouse cheated on me.

That's it. Game over.

And if my spouse were out with his bit on the side and cocked up like this I sure as hell wouldn't be getting back together for him.

Others feel differently.

Each to their own, but it's oversimplifying to say everyone who feels anything other than an outpouring of sympathy for this man equivalent to that of the child's mother is a man-hating, angry person.

MN can be very man-hating at times, it can also be very Princess-Di effect.

expatinscotland · 21/02/2009 12:35

How is is assigning blame to point out the guy really fucked up taking his hands off the buggy to snog the gal?
