I am not a big fan or anything, and I don't feel more sorry for celebrities than for anyone else, but it all seems such a terrible waste. Hope for a miracle, as thats what it will take now, apparently.

This is taken directly from the 2003 NHS study (Sasieni et al, Br J Cancer). You can see that screening for under 25s just doesn't make sense for a national health service programme.

"Nationally, only 1.7% of cervical cancer in women aged 20?69 occur under the age of 25, corresponding to an incidence rate of 2.5 per 100 000 women years. In our study, 26 out of the 34 women with cervical cancer aged 20?24 years had a previous operationally) negative smear, suggesting that cytology is not very sensitive for these tumours. A review of the screening histories of the 13 women with stage 1Bþ cervical cancer aged 20?24 indicates that six of these cases were symptomatic, of which five were stage 1B and the other was stage 3."

Poor Jade, the news about her today is truly devastating to hear.

I don't know Jade at all but her story has really touched me as a mother and as a human being.

She was very young when she came into the public eye and she did some pretty daft things that I expect even she regrets now. Yet everyone still judges her. Who can say that they didn't do daft things when they were young?

She openly admits that her mother has never been much of a mother to her and that Jade herself has been more like a parent to her mother. This must be even harder to bear now because I'm sure a lot of 27 year old women can totally rely on their mothers ina situatio like this whereas Jade can't.

Her father was in prison, her mother was on drugs and she has lived a terrible childhood and has had little in the way of guidance from any form of parents over the years.

She has done what she can to make a life for herself, and now her children too and you have to take your hat off to her for doing that.

Anyone who has watched her programmes couldn't fail to admit that there is no side to her whatsoever. She seems like a good caring mum, a good friend and a nice girl.

She doesn't deserve this and I can only imagine how absolutely terrified and totally despondant she must be feeling right now.

Poor girl

JollyPirate · 04/02/2009 17:15

Well said Gunnerbean - what a dreadfully sad life she has had.

thumbwitch · 04/02/2009 17:19

jeez, that's so sad. However irritiating she is, no one deserves that.

Fleurlechaunte · 04/02/2009 19:36

My sister had cervical cancer and had a full hysterectomy at aged 25. She had not had any children and it is unlikely she will be able to adopt because of her medical history.

I feel so sad and sorry to hear of this disease affecting someone else so young.

ilovesprouts · 04/02/2009 19:48

poor jade i feel so sorry for her family ,and her two little boys nobody deserves this

mummytowillow · 04/02/2009 19:50

I've gone cold all over hearing this new on the TV

Those poor boys and her to, she has made mistakes in the past but I like her, she is a devoted mother and I feel so very sad for her and her family

I hope someone who knows her passes on these messages to her, if they do then Jade I wish I could also give you hug and I truly hope the doctors can help you xx for your lovely boys.

kyrasmummy · 04/02/2009 19:52

I feel so so sorry for her and her boys.

I had my DD aged 18 in 2004 and was told i would be called up when i was 20, i had my DS in 2005 after just turning 20 and told they had put the age up to 25

Hulababy · 04/02/2009 20:18

How dreadfully sad for her, her family and her friends. I hope everyone involved has some good support systems in place.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 04/02/2009 20:26

If you have not already done so, please sign the petition at Claires Message which is campaigning for cervical screening to begin at 18. Thanks!

poor poor jade

I cannot believe the 'poor screening' posts

I have always had as many smears as i wanted

This may enrage some in nhs but if i wanted a smear and I were some of you I would insist, if that meant exaggerating a bit of post coital bleed or the like then so be it

beforesunrise · 04/02/2009 20:59

it is really tragic, and i can only feel an immense sorrow for her and her boys. it makes me even sadder to think that she probably doesn't have much in the way of decent support in these times, we've all seen what her mum is like and her boyfriend is in jail.

what a sad, unfair and tragic story.

beforesunrise · 04/02/2009 21:01

is there anyway we could send this link or a different thread to her publicist (Max Clifford) to pass on to her? it may be possible to contact him via his webpage or something?

compo · 04/02/2009 21:02

her boyfriend is out of jail now

NAB09 · 04/02/2009 21:04

I wouldn't send the link. There has been some people saying they don't like her and suggesting she didn't go for appointments. Not helpful.

ScottishMummy · 04/02/2009 21:07

it is truly sad to think of her mortality, and leaving her children -she must be terrified

AuntieMaggie · 04/02/2009 21:10

LightShinesInTheDarkness - been trying to sign the petition but it keeps saying my email address is invalid (it's not!)

ilovemyghds · 04/02/2009 21:10

I saw an episode of her programme a little while ago. It showed her having some treatmemt. She dealt with it all with good humour and strength. Her little boys are lovely and she comes across as such a nice mum. So sad that this would happen to such a young woman and mother.

Shhhh · 04/02/2009 22:20

If you want to pass onyour message before sunrise, send it via max clifford...

Gosh, this has saddened me all day........ Poor poor jade..

Shhhh · 04/02/2009 22:22

just to ask, someone mentioned about her recent show...I missed the last episode I think...The last one I saw was v sad when she lost her hair... Was there one after this.?

kylesmyloveheart · 04/02/2009 23:25

we saw her at butlins last year.

she was fantastic with her two boys. took them to all the shows and creative classes etc. she seemedd really nice.

feel so sorry for her. she hasnt got a tight family so maybe feeling very lonely now.

god the worry she must be going through.

i read that when her hair fell out she told the boys she had used a dodgy shampoo so it wouldnt scare them.

PurpleOne · 05/02/2009 02:33

I'm with VS on this issue.
I WAS offered a smear at age of 18. First smear, and they found pre change cells. CIN II.
Good Lord, if I'd been offered it at a later stage of life.
Ever since I had my colposcopy a few weeks after that, the first 2 yrs was monitored every 6 months, then every year. I insist on going gp's every 2 years now. They tell me I'm not due one - I pay my tax and NI like everyone else, I'm having one!

I find it abhorrent reading posts here with ladies not having their first smear until mid 20's. Sexual health is paramount.

Can only imagine what Jade is going through. We've just lost a family friends daughter through a brain tumour. 3 weeks short of her 15th birthday.

Feeling really sorry for Jade at the moment.

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2009 13:31

It is really sad, she is so young and so are her boys. Apparently her comment was along the lines of I don't want to die, I have so much to live for

Shhhh · 06/02/2009 22:38

bumping this

Guadalupe · 06/02/2009 22:45

Jade was diagnosed in the summer just after my hysterectomy. I feel so dreafully sorry for her and at the same time so relieved that mine was discovered at stage 1.

There were two weeks where I didn't know my surgery would be curative and it was hell. Poor woman.
