Thanks spicemonster.

spicemonster · 18/01/2009 13:55

mysterymoniker if you don't want to boycott Israel, then that's your prerogative. I do so am explaining my rationale.

And twinset - I should have explained that yesterday. Apologies

Lulumama · 18/01/2009 13:58

what is the rationale for not supporting the economic development of a nation?

are Israeli lives worth less somehow?

Lulumama · 18/01/2009 13:59

actually, i can;t bear these threads
not sure why i bothered posting.

twinsetandpearls · 18/01/2009 14:00

Thanks Spicemonster for explaining, I just wish I knew more about this , my students at school are always asking me as they assume that I know because of what teach. But it is so hard finding an unbiased account.

twinsetandpearls · 18/01/2009 14:01

I agree that "supporting the economic development of a nation" is a loose phrase.

twinsetandpearls · 18/01/2009 14:01

happychappy · 18/01/2009 14:04

I dont any of it anyway

mygreatauntgriselda · 18/01/2009 14:08

Already do and have been doing for about 20 years

WinkyWinkola · 18/01/2009 23:18

Lulumama, I agree with you.

But I also hope that Israel lifts economic pressure on the Gazans too.

And that Hamas respond positively to a ceasefire.

Imagine if it were to come true.

YaddaYaddaYadda · 19/01/2009 12:18

What about products from the West Bank? Are they in or out of your boycott?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 19/01/2009 16:24

How about buying this?

cory · 19/01/2009 16:29

It's not that I don't think boycotts can do good: the South African one being a case in point.

But there it was a case of wanting to bring down a whole system. Boycotting the products of any country that conducts an unjust war- I know where I'd have to start!

orangina · 19/01/2009 16:36

Kathyis6incheshigh.... I liked that link but laughed that it is available in 750ml sizes for "liberal use"....

Kathyis6incheshigh · 19/01/2009 16:43

LOL yes!
It isn't going to say 'use conservatively', is it?

orangina · 19/01/2009 17:05

lol

nappyaddict · 28/01/2009 01:43

Does anyone boycott tesco, sainsbury's, asda and morrison's also known as the big four? I can't see the point in boycotting 1 but not the others tbh. They are all as bad as eachother when it comes to gaining huge profits from the world's poorest people. Does anyone know much about Co-op or Waitrose's ethics?

twentypence · 28/01/2009 01:49

Ds went to see some Isreali buskers at a festival this week. The first thing they did was thank people for coming to see them. I think it would have been awful if people had stayed away.

donnie · 28/01/2009 16:37

have been boycotting them for years. I was brought up to to it.

The West Bank: a difficult one. Sainsbury's quite often label their herbs as West Bank only - no reference to whether the farmer is a Palestinian or Israeli one. I have tried to get Sainsbury's to clarify this but had no success thus far.

donnie · 28/01/2009 16:38

plus a lot of Palestinian farm land has been stolen by Israelis anyway.'Disputed territory', they call it....

anyway, same old, same old.

Desiderata · 28/01/2009 16:48

Jeez, if it ain't Nestle it's the Jews!

Have you got nothing better to do than to opine over the origin of a fig?

tiredsville · 28/01/2009 17:21

Why not? It can be an effective, way of protesting in a non violent manner.

Bubble99 · 28/01/2009 20:14

'This is not just a tank.....'

tagragra · 11/08/2014 00:17

matzos are also Israeli----some kind of breadstick

edamsavestheday · 11/08/2014 22:03

zombie thread.

And matzos are not a type of breadstick, they are more like big, flat, cream crackers. But not quite.
