i'm disgusted really.

OP posts:
LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 11:31

I don't know if you've read any of the posts explaining why some of us think it's mysogynist behaviour MP. There have been several on all thse different threads.

But the basic premise is that these men took the chuckling tone that having (consensual) sex with a woman is somehow getting one over on her. And that her grandfather should be upset enough about the fact that his gd has consensual sex, to kill himself.

I don't know if that indicates a positive approach to women's sexuality to you, but it doesn't to me, call me over-analytical.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 11:33

Whatever she does for a living we don't know her, RB however does and is likely to have known how she would react.
At the beginning she was not offended and actually linked to the interview on her myspace page.
Her 'job' is not all important but based partly on that and partly on her reaction it would seem she was not personally offended by the comments until someone told her to be.
I wouldn't say that was misogynistic, more manipulative, on her part.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 11:33

Don't worry LBL, I'm sure someone will be along to do so shortly

morningpaper · 31/10/2008 11:35

Well that's the entire Carry On series that you'd better put on your bonfire as well

as well as much of British comedy to date

I find your mockery of the rights to privacy/dignity of a porn star deeply, deeply disturbing.

What mockery?

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 11:36

must.. go ... and ... play ... with .. chi..

actually, I'd quite like to know what solidgoldbrass's take on the misogyny angle is. She might well disagree with us but would do so interestingly.

morningpaper · 31/10/2008 11:37

yes good point onebat

where is she

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 11:37

The children will look after themselves

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 31/10/2008 11:37

"At the beginning she was not offended and actually linked to the interview on her myspace page."

Did she? Gosh that rather changes things if true, surely?

Hmm do I sense the hand of Max Clifford at work?

beaniescreamyb · 31/10/2008 11:38

but clearly, bringing other members of her family into the 'joke' was out of order!

Even I believe that.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 11:38

She had it linked, and said 'Russell Brand mentions the Satanic Sluts'. The page has since been removed and (I think, not sure on this bit though) that she has claimed it was 'hacked'.

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 11:39

its a case of agendas

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 11:39

Well yes, the Carry On films are all known for their positive, enlightened portrayal of women, aren't they?

That's sarcastic, btw.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 11:40

are you not suggesting that her right to privacy/dignity is compromised by her lifestyle?
"An invasion of the privacy of the woman porn-star?" Sorry if I'm wrong, but your tone sounds incredulous, on this and the previous thread.

policywonk · 31/10/2008 11:41

If, in the end, those at OFCOM and the BBC get the impression that those vocally in favour are roughly equal in number to those who are vocally opposed, then I'm sure that will be played out in terms of how the BBC handles such material in the future.

But then I just don't agree, as I said further down, that every comedy programme on the BBC is going to get banned and we're all going to have to listen to Friday Night Is Music Night on permanent rotation. I think some of you are getting a bit hysterical about what the effects of this are likely to be.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 11:43

how utterly utterly depressing, but how true, that so little has changed since 1972 or whichever year was Carry On's heyday.

Carry On was fictional though, right? We've moved on to real women now.

morningpaper · 31/10/2008 11:44

Well I think if you are in a band called the Satanic Sluts, and have appeared in Porn Films, and belong to groups with neo-nazi implications (Satanic Sluts = SS: 'one faith one order' mission statement! ahhh niiice) and link to the interview on your MYSpace page saying "Russell Brand mentions the Satanic Sluts" then I think the right to privacy becomes a little blurry

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 11:48

Beanie, I do not think that Jonathan Ross (as it was he that mentioned her first) should have said to anybody's grandfather 'He fucked your Granddaughter'. I just think it has been blown out of all proportion, and that two men who acted rather idiotically are being hung whereas the girl who wasn't offended originally is working it for al it's worth.
Being offended by proxy is bad enough, but pretending to be offended because it makes you look better?

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 11:52

Oh yes let's move the debate back on to her behaviour and character shall we, because then it will excuse their's.

morningpaper · 31/10/2008 11:53

It's not about her "behaviour and character"

It's about her job

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 11:54

Does hers not matter than?
Yes, what they did wasn't in the best taste but it doesn't warrant the uproar it has caused.

morningpaper · 31/10/2008 11:54

career would be more accurate

where have I said SHE'S A BAD GIRL

izyboy · 31/10/2008 11:55

oh lord I've a Halloween party to organise but just had to stop and have one last look at MN (why?why?) Well Soph you know your opening opinion is largely correct (if a bit unpalatably 'put' for some people).

Really we can wrap it up however we want, but what a ridiculous HOO HA over an unfortunate incident. I say it again -puerile joke, badly edited, someone gets a bollocking, end of.

Now instead we will have DM readers idea of fun - reruns of the '2 Ronnies', 'Are you being served?' and even possibly 'Mind your language' - please come back Rossy and Brand all is forgiven!

MrsMattie · 31/10/2008 11:55

The whole thing makes me laugh. Totally blown out of all proportion. Silly.

izyboy · 31/10/2008 11:57

Or the bleedin' 'Vicar of Dibley' gah!

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 12:01

i think the crime is that it wasnt even funny

at least be hung for something funny
