I can't concentrate on ANYTHING Robert Peston says.

I find the way he speaks far too distracting. It's not that I don't like him, I just don't know what he's saying, ever. Stephanie was so much easier.
Anyone else?

Honneybunny · 17/09/2008 10:11

me too..
i
just
can't
seem to
follow
what he
says
because
he stresses
every
single
word and
pauses after
every single word
he says

DH gets very annoyed at me whenever RP is on as I try and repeat whatever he says, the way he says it . Maybe what he's trying to do is make the financial news/crisis sound more interesting (?).

TheCrackFox · 17/09/2008 22:11

God
yes he
.....is annoying
and
he
moves
his
hands
far too much.

greenandpleasant · 17/09/2008 22:12

lol -

I
WAS
just thinking
THE
same
AND
wondering
IF
anyone else had noticed
SO
was going
TO
post here
said in disturbingly high squeaky manner.

bundle · 17/09/2008 22:12

dh said last night

The credit crunch is terrible
Interest rate rises, mortgages go up

But worse than that

Robert Peston is on tv all the time

[aggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh]

I think he's trying to be like Andrew Marr ... and failing dismally.

TheOldestCatHairsInTheCyclone · 17/09/2008 22:15

Am with you ladies, he's terrible at presentation.

But I do think he's getting better - at least he was at the start of the week.

DH reports Marr was just as bad at the start until they locked him in a room with a producer.

andiem · 17/09/2008 22:17

ooh he drives me mad
his presentation is awful and he seems to take such glee in it all when really it's not that funny

bundle · 17/09/2008 22:23

marr was never that bad

even when he was a toddler

Honneybunny · 18/09/2008 07:49

theoldestcathairsinthecyclone do you really think he's getting better?
if so, i'd like to think that he saw this thread (it was started at the beginning of this week)... robert peston on mumsnet?

MyNameIsRobertPeston · 18/09/2008 07:52

why is that so funny?

WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 18/09/2008 07:56

he really annoyed me last night with his smuggery and glee. and for once i was trying to listen to the economic stuff.

MadameCastafiore · 18/09/2008 07:59

God he is a damn site better then the Americans on CNBC or whatever it is called that I am being forced to watch by DH - was glad of the bloody football being on last night so I didn't have to hear about the state of the economy for 90 minutes!

Went to bed to watch the Family in the end and DH even asked me why - because between you disagreeing with everything the economics people say and shouting at the ref I HAVE A HEDACHE!

I do still like him though - he gets to the heart of the problem, even though lately it is never what I want to hear....

MrsTeasdale · 18/09/2008 11:19

I find him strangely compelling. Rather magnificent actually.

TheOldestCatHairsInTheCyclone · 18/09/2008 12:23

Honneybunny (sorry for long name!) Yes I do think he's more restrained these days and his tone is more even.

I am NOT robert peston.

bran · 18/09/2008 12:42

I quite like reading his articles, but he is annoying to listen to. I still like Evan Davis best, he's fab for not using jargon and he's very succinct and clear. Rober Peston is better at considering ramifications and the future though, Evan Davis never really goes beyond stating the current facts and the history of a situation.

Honneybunny · 18/09/2008 12:44

DH thinks this discussion is just hilarious. This morning he switched on radio4 with the words:"let's have some wise words from robert peston then...", and of course he was just on at that time... I only needed him to say two words to recognise his voice.

TheOldestCat · 18/09/2008 12:47

He must be knackered - he seems to be on every time I turn on R4, the the telly, BBC news online...

bundle · 18/09/2008 12:48

I thought Peston was going to explode last night,he was so over excited

he's a bit like a toddler who's had too many e-numbers

Marina · 18/09/2008 12:54

I made the mistake of ridiculing him to BIL, who works in the great Peston's orbit and was prissily told that we need to leave his presentation out of it as Peston is actually a misunderstood genius in the field
My view is that even if your IQ is in four figures, people will still be distracted by irritating vocal tics and DYED HAIR

Upwind · 18/09/2008 12:55

His blog is excellent - here

agree that between radio and tv appearances and maintaining the blog, he must be a busy man!

Marina · 18/09/2008 12:56

Having endured the French TV Olympics coverage, though, I concede MadameCastafiore's point that we are lucky to have even the annoying members of the BBC , as the alternative is scary.

LongDroopyBoobyLady · 18/09/2008 12:56

I think he's cute.
