A sweeping generalisation, but 'middle class' teenage girls in America (especially those from religiously rigorous families) are not usually having intercourse at 15. Maybe fumbling around a bit and experimenting, but virginity is generally lost a bit later.........

alienbump · 01/09/2008 17:26

Pretty sure the baby's not her daughters - as her daughter is 5 months pregnant at the moment!

all the more reason to try and hide it when your DD does then perhaps Earlybird???

foxytocin · 01/09/2008 17:28

LOL, I thought you all talking about Michael Palin.

Shows you how interested I am in this woman.

FAQ · 01/09/2008 17:29

now that WOULD be a story and a half Michael Palin pg

Earlybird · 01/09/2008 17:30

FAQ - it is certainly within the realm of possibility, but highly unlikely.

YOu've made some astonishing assumptions and speculations with your posts - why jump on the smear bandwagon? Why must everyone have something nasty to hide? Maybe she does.....but just maybe, she doesn't!!

combustiblelemon · 01/09/2008 17:30

You could suggest it in America Dittany. You can get away with just about anything there. There has been an awful lot of migogynist crap directed at Hillary, and I found the reference to Michelle (I think) Obama as Barack Obama's 'Babymomma' offensive on several different levels, but in this case I just don't think that it's being motivated by misogyny. TBH I find Sarah Palin offensive, and I think her view that abortion is not appropriate even for victims of incest is more damaging to women than this.

Is it? I think if someone lies when they're in political office, it doesn't matter what they lied about, they ought to be pulled up about it.

because it happens to be a lie about pregnancy, it's misogyny to pull her up on it?

doesn't make sense to me.

georgimama · 01/09/2008 17:39

Oh I see, Bill Clinton lied about fucking Monica Lewinsky so obviously Sarah Pallin's eldest daughter is the real mother of the baby, I totally see the logic in that .

Quattrocento · 01/09/2008 17:39

Look whatever you think about Palin (and I happen to think that she is utterly revolting) it is WRONG to spread smears like this. Not to mention potentially legally dubious. Please can we let this thread die?

Cosette · 01/09/2008 17:40

Except that as alienbump pointed out, she can't be, as Palin's daughter IS currently pregnant - here

georgimama · 01/09/2008 17:40

LittleMyDancing, you are working on the assumption that she IS lying, which we don't know, except that it's on the internet, so it must be true.

Earlybird · 01/09/2008 17:41

LMD - but there is no proof that she is lying about a pregnancy - it is all speculation.

As you can see here, she is being honest about other family 'news':

Earlybird · 01/09/2008 17:42

snap cossette!

combustiblelemon · 01/09/2008 17:43

I'll just accept that we disagree over that one Dittany. I just don't feel that telling lies about a woman and the parentage of her baby is misogyny. It's unpleasant, hurtful and unfortunately the kind of thing that's par for the course in American politics. When a male politician is accused of being the father of a former colleague's/acquaintance's baby, and it's really not a Bill Clinton situation, is that misandry?

MKG · 01/09/2008 17:43

Well IMO and as I posted on another thread, if she truly is pro-family values, and anti-abortion and the baby was her daughters the best move she could have made politically would have been to come out initially and say, "My daughter is pregnant, yes she didn't use contraception, but she has chosen to keep this baby and we as her family are behind her 100%"

That would have opened up dialogues for parents and children, and really said a lot for her pro-life agenda.

I feel bad for her, last week no one knew who she was (except for people in Alaska) and now she's on the national and international stage.

alienbump · 01/09/2008 17:44

I agree Quattrocento (with both your opinion of Palin and your desire for the smearing to end) - but would just like to repeat my point that Palin's 17yr old daughter Bristol is currently 5 months pregnant.

LittleMyDancing · 01/09/2008 17:44

Well no, I'm working on the assumption that it is legitimate to challenge a political person on a potential lie, no matter what it's about.

otherwise, you wouldn't be allowed to challenge a female politician on any potential lies about any topics to do with being a woman, for fear of being misogynistic.

true equality is when we are treated exactly the same as men, and that means if people are suspicious about something a female politician has said, then their gender is irrelevant.

you might as well have said that you couldn't challenge Bill Clinton about the whole blow job thing because only men can get blow jobs, so it's sexist

iyswim.

georgimama · 01/09/2008 17:46

MKG, that is exactly what she IS doing, right now, because her daughter IS pregnant, and therefore cannot be the mother of her fifth child.

Right, that's one internet conspiracy theory sorted, anyone want to have a stab at Marilyn faked her death, and who was on the grassy knoll with me?

OMG--I'm a genius! I just read Cossette's link. She said pretty much what she should have said.

I love Sara Palin!

LittleMyDancing · 01/09/2008 17:47

for the record, i have no opinion on whether it's true or not.

Cosette · 01/09/2008 17:47

MKG - that's exactly what she is saying!
