We don’t know yet that he is.
None of us (I presume) knows him personally -just media stuff.
I really hope jury (and all juries in criminal cases) listen to the evidence without preconceived ideas, or othering their own (tenuous) experience onto a wholly different situation.

So if he is acquitted...
would you share a hotel room with him?

Presumably Clover would be out for a night with him seeing as he's just another rape apologist bloke.

This thread seems to be crawling with them.

The thread is about Russell Brand.
The people on the incident she referred to are completely unrelated to the discussion about him.
Start a different thread about creepy doctors if you want.

Some twat has been saying he doesn’t believe the women because, amongst other things, they didn’t report at the time. The discussion has then naturally widened to people’s experiences of rape and sexual assault because it has shed light on those sort of ‘why’s’. It was a poster being hard of understanding who kicked all that off.

Although the posters are perfectly entitled to talk about their experiences if they want. Your response is shit.

In his defence, many, many, women have literally thrown themselves at him over the years.

Of course this shouldn't be relevant theoretically but the defence are going to show RB as a person women desire and unfortunately his dating history (including actresses, singers, models, heiresses) will support this. I think it will be the defences postion that the women coming forward regretted their encounters with Brand (as yes he is a shit person no question there) and sought some revenge for their humiliation.

I don't know if the predator angle will stick as it is known and accepted he serially promiscuous, liked sex and may be relevant lying could get it from women. We have had many other men who have engaged with hundreds of groupies. Awful morally but enough to convict.

Well if revenge is a dish best served cold, this is bloody freezing! It’s ages ago.

I do agree with your general point that convictions could be difficult to obtain. Let’s see how it pans out. I’ll be really interested to hear what the friend has to say ‘’I’ve gone too far with a girl’ and the defence position on that. I would have thought that would be today but perhaps next week.

thebrowncatisback · 16/10/2026 14:06

I watched the C4 documentary again today

i believe those women. Totally plausible stories

most of them remained anonymous. Not seeking fame or fortune

too coincidental for them all to want to slur his name for no reason other than malice

thebrowncatisback · 16/10/2026 14:07

Jimmy saville wasnt convicted

therefore he’s innocent

Thisismetooaswell · 16/10/2026 14:08

JasmineMac · 14/10/2026 21:30

He hasn't admitted to committing any crime. He's admitted promiscuity, amongst other poor behaviour. He does, however, remain innocent of any crime until proven guilty.

Exactly!!

Netcurtainnelly · 16/10/2026 14:09

Exactly and nine if them knew each other.

Regrettably true. Men who have committed sexual assault do seem sometimes to die before the prosecution service gets round to looking at them hard.

Cattery · 16/10/2026 14:26

It’s the prosecuting barrister’s job to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. It’s the defence barrister’s job to attempt to throw shade on the assertions by questioning them. It all sounds horribly complicated. The charges are historic. There are no witnesses apart from the women themselves. There will be no DNA evidence. No predictions from me on the outcome.

There is at least one witness who is not one of the women, I think: isn't the chap who used to be a friend of Brand's and says that one one of the evenings Brand is accused of raping someone, Brand said he'd gone too far and they had to leave somewhere in a hurry, going to be called by the prosecution?

Yes I believe so. His testimony can be open to interpretation by the defence barrister and it will be (no doubt)

CarbootJunction · 16/10/2026 15:59

The first witness in court has testified that they "spent hours chatting, then she invited him to her hotel room".
What did she do that for, if it wasn't to be intimate with him?
If you invite a man to your hotel room, after spending hours chatting, flirting and drinking with him, let's be clear; he is going to expect sex.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/10/2026 16:06

Did the witness use the word "flirting"? Or is it just an assumption that a woman and a man talking together is always going to be flirting?

(Someone tell Angela Merkel that talking to Donald Trump was flirting with him; I want her response to that on the record.)

He can 'expect sex' all he wants...doesn't mean he is entitled to it nor that he can rape her.

And her testimony is that she repeatedly said no to sex.

So just to be clear, is it your assertion that chatting to a man for hours and inviting him into your room makes it any less of a rape if you say no to that man once he tries to physically have sex with you?

To chat? Shocking I know. I believe she said she wanted to continue talking and he suggested a bar/pub which she wasnt keen on and so she invited him back.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/10/2026 17:07

It's funny how a woman can expect to talk, and a man expect to fuck, in identical circumstances. Most men are not that one-track-minded, chances are. Most men do not claim to be "sex addicts", either.

He can hope for it, doesn't mean he will get it or has any right to get it.

Who said she was flirting? She thought he was gay

even if he was expecting sex its entirely different to expecting to rape

This will not help the Male loneliness crisis at all!
You can't have it both ways: men can either be being unfairly judged by the actions of a few OR all potential rapists/unable to control their own sexuality to the extent that women need to avoid too much contact with/encouragement of less they bring about their ruin

As a society can we pick one and stick to it going forward?
