A good friend of mine was raped last year , reported to the police, unfortunately a case of her word against his and so far nothings come of it.
Dont think there any ‘rape aplogisers’ here.
It’s true that most people who are raped report it to the police immediately, ok, some do not for various reasons.
How many accusers are there ? Seven? So it just so happens seven women are raped but none of them report it at the time of the rape?

I believe that the women reported RB to the police after the C4 documentary. Which does raise questions about whether they could be retrospectively reinterpreting what happened with RB, now through the lens of the C4 documentary.

These sorts of cases are always very difficult to convict, as it needs to be ‘beyond reasonable doubt.’

No, sorry. Most women don’t report to the police at all, never mind immediately. Only 14.7% of raped women report it. 1 in 7.

In a case like this from a statistical point of view it’s likely there are other women who still haven’t come forward and never will.

Yo808 · 15/10/2026 18:50

I simply don’t believe that statistic of 14%.
Someone going out and raping somebody and they have an 86% chance of not even being reported for it? Let alone the police not following through properly, let alone fighting it in court and beating it , and etc etc.
BS. Wherever that statistic comes from, it’s pure BS

I worked in a rape and sexual assault clinic (SARC), and I completely believe it. We spoke to and saw far more people not with the police than we did with. Many people have no faith in the police system and know DNA means fuck all if the bloke says it was consensual it then becomes he said she said and a year + of a long investigation into you and your life. Most people also know their attacker so reporting them is much more complex

Or they saw it and the shame they felt disappeared and anger and a need for justice came forth as they realised he’s prolific and it’s not just a one off.

How would they know the percentage of unreported rapes if they aren’t reported? Not being facetious, I am genuinely interested in the statistics around this. For example, the % of false accusations statistic is woefully incorrect - it only accounts for the false allegations that are proven and prosecuted, not allegations that are probably false and lead to NFA.

Because those women (and men) go to rape crisis centres, and specialist councelling.

There’s clearly more to this. For a start the women concerned all went to Chanel 4 before going to the police. I’m also curious at the idea of women inviting someone they didn’t really know and who at the time was a high profile celebrity with friends in high places back to their hotel rooms alone because they just wanted to talk. I don’t think I’ve ever invited a man back to my room alone because I wanted him to talk at me. The only time I ever did it talking was the last thing on the menu.

PerhapsPerhapsMaybe · 15/10/2026 19:04

He said she said rape accusations are incredibly difficult to even get to court in the first place. There must be some very compelling evidence for the Cps to pursue this

That has to be seen in the context of the number of women who reported Jimmy Savile for anything at the time he committed offences against them; Brand, like Savile, almost certainly seemed untouchable so what would be the point of putting oneself through a court case one would be likely not to win?

Only when the climate has changed and the male is no longer regarded as above the law does it seem worth trying to get him punished for what he did, would be my guess on that.

Ched Evans. And yes, found not guilty at retrial.

That one still absolutely gives me rage and always will.

One of the complainants reports the incident occurred in 1998/1999 I think, and she was sexually naive and had had a good conversation with him; he asked to go for a drink to continue their chat and she (naively) invited him to her hotel. She had told him she wasn’t interested, he got naked and forced himself on her. Allegedly.

She saw the channel 4 documentary and went to the police.

I remember Chris Evans going after Billie Piper when she was still 15 and he used to joke about it being legal or not on his breakfast show on Radio 1.

I still remember being creeped out by a male radio host telling Billie that the whole country must be relieved she'd had her sixteenth birthday. I actually didn't make the connection until now that the host in question may have been Chris Evans. Eww.

Have you had this exact conversation with your friend who was raped?
I'm sure she would feel differently.

Also, I hope you were much more supportive of her situation, and didn't ask if she had simply had a shit time before crying rape.

Have you been raped?

I have.

I didn't report it at all. I knew there wouldn't be any point and it would be me and my life and my family who would have to suffer the consequences of a trial.
I knew it was unlikely I could prove it.

So I told one friend. Just because I had to.

If some TV channel had asked for survivors of my rapist I would have gone and told them my story in a heartbeat because I would have felt supported and like someone was on my side.

I was drunk and wearing a short skirt and wasn't a virgin when I was raped.
I wouldn't have stood a chance in court.
I would have been ripped apart, judged and dismissed.

Neither do most survivors given that the charge rates through the CPS and Police are 1.3% to 2.7% of REPORTED rape and only 1 in 6 rapes are reported.

Rape accounts for 36% of UK crime.

Remember that's reported rapes which are only 1 in 6 raped women that will report.
That fucking brave woman stands a 54%-63% chance of getting a conviction for the man who attacked her.
That's pretty much 1 in 2 chance.

Seven women say Russell Brand raped them. I imagine there are a lot more women out there as well.

What do you think the odds of these women not telling the truth?

Also he was a VERY prominent and powerful media darling for a long time and men like that seem to get away with murder.

TV seems to have a lot of these men.

I hope these women get their justice. 💐

Unfortunately, the way the system is, I am not holding out much hope.

The statistic comes from the ONS. From the crime survey for England and wales. They survey a sample of people. the sample is meant to represent the population.

while I appreciate it’s impossible to know for sure if people are lying why in such a survey would they lie?

personally I know of three women who have been raped. Not a single one reported it.

You really seem to hate women.

They went independently of each other and told their story.

It's not for you to judge when and to whom they report their attack.

No. The channel 4 women are 5 different women to the 6 woman in the current court case.

the channel 4 woman have not been to the police. Iirc some, possibly all the channel 4 women were American?

So why is a former friend of his who was with him in Brighton on the night of the alleged attack giving evidence for the prosecution which kind of backs that victim up.

when he heard women had come forward he went to the police and said he was with RB on a specific date and he thinks something happened.

that date unknown to him was the date of one of the accusations

While I appreciate it may have been unwise her evidence today gives more insight. She was at the conference as a delegate talking about women’s rights.

he approached her, made out he was interested in women’s rights. She was excited he wanted to help her promote her cause. I’m sure he was charming and convincing. He said he’d like to put a play on about it. Suggested that they discuss it in her room.

she admits she was naive.

Yo808 · 15/10/2026 19:38

Well I am sure it is like Covid statistics, which will never be released because.. well, anyway…
36% of British crime is rape? So there are more rapes than people stealing from co-op?
Just complete nonsense.

Jimmy Saville was a proven child molester…Hardly the same as Russell Brand.
If Brand is a rapist - Yes throw his booky wooks at him.
Saville victims didn’t have the option to go back to his room and engage in sex with him…what a disgusting comparison.

She thought he was gay - he wasn’t famous at the time

they were at a conference so it’s believable to me you would go back to your room

She then went on to say his behaviour changed. She was scared. He forced himself on her. His body crushing her. She repeatedly said no. Tried to turn her face as he was poking his tongue in and out her mouth like a lizard. Then raped her and left. Did not wear a condom. Left her his email address.
