The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

Sigh. Answer the question. How do Jews feel about weekly pro-Palestinian marches, accusing Israel of genocide, such marches beginning on Oct 8th 23 while Hamas and friends were still committing genocide in Israel?

Sigh?

Not great about antisemitism. All good about speaking up for oppressed people, especially those facing a double whammy.

I'm not posting here again till after Pentecost, but I fail to see why Arthur, Alfred, Simon de Montfort, Boudicca and her daughters, Magna Carta etc are funny. They are not funny and they are the culture of this country (bet you don't know what the flowers of the forest mean, and had I mentioned Llewellyn the Great you wouldn't have a clue) and they are what people are marching for. They are marching against those who say not only that these things don't matter but that they are WRONG and EVIL and on the wrong side of history. The UK stopped the slave trade, its empire fought the Nazis and defeated them. It's not shameful to know and celebrate these things and other countries don't go round saying constantly oh, we have a dreadful history (even when they do), only the British.

If by Arthur, you mean King Arthur, he didn’t exist.

But with you otherwise.

Is it next week we bring back motherhood and apple pie or the week after?

MeAndStuart1981 · 17/05/2026 14:00

Does anyone know the final turnout numbers for yesterdays marches ie how many for the pro-UK one and how many for the pro-Palestine march? I was looking at the Met's tweet about arrests, but without knowing the numbers on each side, it seemed useless - although it looked like the majority were well behaved.

You are talking nonsense. You are hoping you can post a Gotcha but your problem is there is no Gotcha.

The nonsense you say I'm talking was actually two quotes of yours 😂

I didn’t march yesterday and don’t condone racist chants from anyone.

That is stretching a point.

Hi ForWittyTeaOP - what point is being stretched? That an empire defeated the Nazis (true, the US turned up late - again - after spending a couple of years supplying Germany and probably shortened the war by 2 years) or that Magna Carta has something to do with being British? Clueless as to your meaning.

Nope. You don’t get to walk away from making online accusations and making statements that can lead to reputational damage, there’s laws against that I’m afraid.

Oh call your solicitor if you're so hurt. 🙄 Go away.

You will get nowhere with a defamation or libel action - and you probably wouldn't be able to afford it either. There are laws against libel and defamation but you are anon. No one knows who you are. You haven't suffered any reputational damage

Honest opinion is a defence to defamation. In any case, there's no reputational damage to you because no one knows who you are in real life.

It's not mental gymnastics.

They don't attend Church. They don't read the bible or know anything about it.

They don't talk about God at all.

Tell me one far-right leader in the UK who has ever mentioned God in any statement they've made.

Or any of their supporters.

They haven't.

They're claiming England is a Christian country based on history and because it's a way of 'combating' Islam.

None of them ever mention God.

Christians mention God and the Bible frequently.

All of the US Christian Nationalists mention God and the Bible frequently.

They're not Christians, they don't go to Church, they don't mention the Bible, they don't talk about God ever.

Christianity is based on a belief in God and Jesus.

Christian nationalism is based on WHAT GOD WANTS, that is the fundamental basis of Christian nationalism - they are soldiers working for God in white supremacy, anti-abortion, homophobia.

Trump alligned himself with Christian Nationalists to win votes. Was 'blessed' by a bunch of Christian pastors putting their hands on his head in public and claiming God had appointed him as president and claimed after the assasination attempt in 2024 he has been saved by divine intervention.

That would be fucking laughable in the UK.

Literally none of the right wing leaders in the UK mention God ever.

They're not Christian let alone Christian nationalists.

Which Christian churches and pastors/leaders are involved in this Christian nationalist movement?

There are hundreds in the US, if there's a Christian Nationalist movement in the UK, there must be churches and leaders involved?

Edited

They (the organizers I assume) were however distributing large crosses to the marchers yesterday

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 14:04

I’m afraid you can’t hide behind message boards to defame people.

I was defamed all over the Internet by a group of people who were harassing me for over a year. They knew my real name which was posted. No one is going to win a defamation action unless they have money. Or someone willing to take a case on for free and generally where someone has lost work or income due to the person's posts.

Do you think if you show a solicitor this thread that they'll take a case on for you?

I’m afraid you can’t hide behind message boards to defame people.

You can't defame someone whose identity is completely unknown to you. No one knows your real name, where you live, or anything that would identify you. Therefore you have not been defamed.

Here is the act,

Defamation Act 2013 (legislation.gov.uk)

Here is a layers guide to it.

Online Defamation in the UK: How to Take Legal Action - Lawyer Mag

Here is a bit from the latter:

  1. Be false and damaging to the claimant’s reputation.
  2. Be published to at least one person other than the claimant.
  3. Cause, or be likely to cause, serious harm to the claimant’s reputation (as per the Defamation Act 2013).

Italics are the quote. So if nobody knows who you are, given that this is an anonymous forum, how can your reputation be damaged?

I am not a lawyer. Just interested.

Edit spelling. I typed "not" (last sentence) as "now" in error.

Defamation Act 2013

An Act to amend the law of defamation.

I’m familiar with all those figures, including those which are entirely or largely mythical. The idea that the thugs who regularly appear at the TR marches have a clue or give a shit about many of them is laughable,

Going for a little lie down for a week is probably a very good idea.

Edited

Arthur is the only legendary one - Boudicca is attested by, I think, Tacitus, also Suetonius and Cassius Dio - and Arthur is only legendary because we don't know to whom the honorific 'Artoris' (the bear) was assigned. None of the others are legendary, though legends have gathered about them, e.g. Llewellyn the Last has attached to him that he lived on in spirit after his death at Cilmeri in 1282 and was seen riding away, possibly weeping (well he might, about a house divided falling, which is how Wales fell). I am pretty sure that Hugh Bigod and Archbishop Anselm (Magna Carta) existed, indeed a few weeks ago I met someone claiming descent from Hugh Bigod.
So who, apart from possibly Arthur, is mythological here?
Also I am sure that those on the UTK march do know about them and care about them, along with English pubs, Scots dancing, the history of Wales and the fact that the thugs in Iran have not been condemned by our government as murderers (or did you not see the lion and sun flag of Iran?).
Do go and lie down.

Why do you think Mumsnet deletes posts? It’s literally to avoid court cases. Anyone that thinks they have the right to maraude around online accusing people of accepting payment for posts most be delusional, particularly in the era we live in. Anyone sensible would admit they got a bit carried away and stopped digging the hole. I’m happy to be called pathetic and I’m pretty reasonable when it comes to arguing my politics as I’m aware this is a left wing site, but doubling down on accusations of being a shill is unacceptable.
