The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

You don’t need to be a Christian to live in the UK so why demonstrate holding huge crosses?

I wonder when those holding the crosses last attended a church service?

Parker231 · 17/05/2026 11:40

MsJinks · 17/05/2026 11:32

They’re using religion - Christianity- as a reminder of the Crusades. I believe some consider the far right movement a crusade at the minute - against Islam - so that’s a call to fight under the banner of God.

it adds some apparent respectful veneer to what they are saying they think too. They’re true Christians defending the British churches.

Tenconi takes a lot of crosses out and about too - UKIP.

Tommeh made a fuss re his ‘conversion’

It is copying the US imo but not sure they get the same traction with that in the U.K. - they will try anything though.

I wonder how many of them have ever been in a church although following a religion doesn’t make you a better person than someone who doesn’t.

This sneering snobbery on Mumsnet is a disgrace. A little bit of rational thought and consideration of why some people might feel the way they do would be a better approach than condemning them all as far-right racists in my view

Sneering again!

I reckon I can condemn prejudice and bigotry and understand why people go in for it. It's just my understanding might not be agreeable to everyone.

climbintheback · 17/05/2026 11:41

We’ve been a predominately Christian nation since the 7th century

I loved it so much, I donated them a tenner!

I have no idea who's behind Led By Donkeys, but they are very creative.

They are ex-advertising creatives. And doing the lord’s work.

This is a fabulous moment from the march.

bsky.app/profile/sturdyalex.bsky.social/post/3mlyeucu72222

I saw this too (love ledbydonkeys. So clever!) and thought yep, typical hard-of-thinking bullet headed white middle aged blokes objecting to these uncomfortable facts. I loved the images of Mo Farah, Nadia Hussein, and the premier league footballers 😂. I also wondered how their little brains would cope with this cognitive dissonance, then when one climbed the ad screen up to try and attack/damage/whatever I thought, that’s how.

That is exactly the behaviour to be expected from white wing racist thugs, football hooligans or not. So yeah OP and PP2, you’re both wrong.

Are these bots, or really Tommy five names handmaidens and apologists?

It was a march organised by far right racists so by definition by choosing to join it people are aligning themselves with far right racists.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 17/05/2026 11:43

The promotion of these marches as being "family friendly" is truly awful. I seriously pity the poor children being brought up by far right fuckwits. They barely stand a chance of growing up into halfway decent adults. Doomed to live lives dominated by ignorance and hate.

It's so sad. I really hope that some of them manage to break out of it somehow, and that they see their parents for what they are.

JassyRadlett · 17/05/2026 11:04

I hadn't taken you for an advocate of Rejoin. Unless you've another, cheaper and more practicable, way of achieving this?

One point of fact is that overall immigration is way down under this government.

Some other points of fact:

  • Small boat/Channel arrivals are down 40% for the year to date compared to the same period last year.
  • Net migration decreased by 69% in the year to June 2025, mostly driven by a significant decrease in immigration.

If we ever rejoined the EU our membership fees would not make any difference to what we pay the French re small boat crossings as that is an agreement between us and France, therefore a separate issue.

You forgot to add that small boat crossings increased by 13% last year under Labour so I should hope they have decreased this year, especially with how much money this Government are paying the French.

Look it up for yourself, there were black people speaking.

climbintheback · 17/05/2026 11:41

We’ve been a predominately Christian nation since the 7th century

Then let’s behave like one.

Love thy neighbour as thyself. Take them in.

Turn the other cheek.

Give to those less fortunate, even if you are not so fortunate yourself.

If this Christian nation actually behaved like one, there would have been far fewer people on the street marching with venom yesterday.

Christ would not have endorsed it.

I shudder to think what you are going to do when Reform are Governing the Country, it will surely tip some of you over the edge!

Just like Gordon Brown's "bigotted woman" remark! These out of touch politicians really don't understand huge swathes of "normal" people.

That was Gillian Duffy who said in a conversation with Gordon Brown, "You can't say anything about the immigrants because you're saying that you're … but all these eastern European what are coming in, where are they flocking from?"

Gordon Brown later phoned her up to apologise for his remarks.

I rather like the chants of Keir Starmer’s a wanker 🤣

I mean yeah not only it’s top political commentary, but also natural for people to feel this way when their idols are Nigel, Elon, and Tommy Robinson. Those guys’ all around quality is immense.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 17/05/2026 11:50

JassyRadlett · 17/05/2026 10:55

Quite. Which was why the part I was questioning was when you were actually speaking for others. Incorrectly as it turns out.

Always a risk to say "no one is saying x, y, z" unless you've actually checked.

It’s a turn of phrase.

Keir is even disliked by his own party, hence trying to oust him currently.

So... no practicable solution that doesn't involve closer political ties with the EU then?

Ans yes, I didn't include every known stat - just as you didn't mention that even last year was down on the 2022 peak.

Not uncommon after mid term local elections. Remember it was a revolving door with the Tories and No10.

Towards the end it was a revolving door because the conservatives were deeply unpopular with the electorate.
