The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

It’s almost as though he is our current prime minister and constantly in the news!

Well done! What has that to do with what I said?

Keir is even disliked by his own party, hence trying to oust him currently.

I know this and I don’t particularly like Starmer, but this chant by these particular people is meaningless given their fucking leader is a combo of Nigel Elon and Tommy

Helko · 17/05/2026 12:02

Prioritising British born people - does that include ethnic minorities born in the UK?

JassyRadlett · 17/05/2026 12:02

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 17/05/2026 11:50

It’s a turn of phrase.

Ah, my mistake. How foolish to think that when someone says "no one is saying" they mean "no one is saying" rather than "I'm not saying."

That's true but I doubt that they will replace him with someone who is more sympathetic to these right-wing marches. I hope not anyway.

Towards the end it was a revolving door because the conservatives were deeply unpopular with the electorate.

I mean they won two elections in the middle of their 5 prime ministers.

Oh you mean when Gordon Brown was perfectly polite to what was, indeed a bigoted woman, and expressed his frustration in what should have been a private place but was leaked to the press? And then the right wing press absolutely crucified him and forced an apology to said bigoted woman and then continued to monster him, up to and past the point we got a hard right government pursuing an agenda to smash our public services?

Yeah. He was right. It's important to speak up against prejudice and misinformation.

No she wasn't bigoted. She had genuine concerns re the influx of Eastern Europeans coming into the country under Freedom of Movement. She was voicing concerns which a lot of people had at the time. Can you not remember the protests by British Tradesmen because they couldn't get work as they were being undercut by Romanians and Polish workers. Remember Gordon Brown promising British Jobs For British Workers which never materialised.

Freedom of Movement only works if all countries have the same economy and wages. When you get countries like Poland and Romania who at the time had much lower wages than the UK it's obvious that we would be inundated with workers which would have an effect on the working class people here. Even Tony Blair admitted he wasn't expecting the influx to be as high as it was.

They’re chanting it because they’re pissed off. They would chant the same to any politician that looked as though they were running the country into the ground. You’ve only got to look at the local elections to see that people are protest voting. I don’t think any of them REALLY want Farage to be PM. They are voting for less word salad and more common sense.

Yes, except for muslims.

Do keep up.

So what policies do you think the government should implement?

Someone actually quoted what (we know) she said above. So yes, she was prejudiced - and even politicians should be allowed to express their own views in the privacy of their cars without the right wing media setting up some kind of kangaroo court.

The promotion of these marches as being "family friendly" is truly awful. I seriously pity the poor children being brought up by far right fuckwits. They barely stand a chance of growing up into halfway decent adults. Doomed to live lives dominated by ignorance and hate.

It's so sad. I really hope that some of them manage to break out of it somehow, and that they see their parents for what they are.

Hopefully, they'll rebel against their parents' beliefs when they reach adolescence. A lot of kids do!

Blocksfruity · 17/05/2026 12:11

Love how racists are suddenly gaining social traction because they didn't lynch and hang immigrants. Is the bar really so low?

FFS when did existing without violence become something to be proud of? That should be the default normal setting for every human being.

So... no practicable solution that doesn't involve closer political ties with the EU then?

Ans yes, I didn't include every known stat - just as you didn't mention that even last year was down on the 2022 peak.

Not sure why you're asking me what my solution is. That's Starmer and Labour's problem to sort out.

Closer ties with the EU wouldn't make any difference either as it's a separate issue.

There are pictures of marchers carrying large crosses- why?

It's Christian Nationalism which is extremely popular in the USA and is followed by the Donald Trump and his acolytes.

It's an ultra-conservative form of religious nationalism that seeks to fuse politics with Christianity, and for the government to promote, or actively enforce, religious interests and their favoured policies. It is opposed to the separation of church and state and to all forms of religious pluralism – such as learning about other beliefs and cultures. More generally, it advocates very conservative Christian social policies, such as rolling back the human rights of LGBT+ people and abortion rights.

It also tends to be a money making opportunity in the USA and a remarkably large number of Conservator Christian pastors are found guilty of child abuse and paedophilia but they get extremely light sentences or are actually pardoned by Trump. It's all a huge grift.

That is it in a nutshell. Robinson, Reform, Restore etc. All very lucrative grifts.

Here we go, everyone with a different opinion to me is racist and I’m far superior. We are getting used to this type of response and you need to do better because you throw racism around so much now that it’s becoming meaningless.

Because you've set a test for what you would consider competence/success - that is, no small boats and not paying millions to France.

So you must have some idea of whether it's even possible, and if so whether it would be cheaper.

(Closer ties with Europe would probably make a significant difference under EU refugee rules and plans under the Pact on Migration and Asylum. Not least with removing some of the incentives for France to turn a blind eye, but also reducing one of the pull factors.)

Isn’t Rupert Lowe the politician who’s giving his wages away not the one who’s accepting free tickets to football matches and Taylor Swift concerts ?
