The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

Why do right-wingers always use that tedious tactic? I'm not screaming. Calmly stating my opinion is what I'm doing, and as ever my opinion is backed up by evidence.

Speaking of evidence, I'm not seeing much that suggests you're not being allowed to talk. Quite the opposite!

If there's no restrictions on free speech, why did Starmer and Mahmood ban 11 speakers from the rally? Some of those people are great speakers with quite reasonable ideas. Others may have ideas that are inflammatory but that's not true of all of them.

AmIrightAmIright · 17/05/2026 10:26

I was taking my son to an activity and there were a bunch of these on the tube. They stood out a mile. Drinking at 10am, posturing. It was frightening, they were quite aware of the disquiet they were causing.
The Britain they want is not my Britain.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 17/05/2026 09:25

If you did then it wasn’t by me.

Never said it was. But you're not "everyone", right?

Your assertion that no one was claiming that was perhaps a little too sweeping, that's all. That's fine, it's a busy thread, you're going to miss posts. Even the first responses to you.

How racist. You know nothing of the people on the Unite the Kingdom march (some of whom were Iranians, for I saw the lion flag flying, and they were very likely not born here) and you don't seem very invested in the kingdom either. The people marched for Alfred and Ethandun, for Arthur, for Harold and William the Bastard, for Magna Carta and King Cnut (and his waves) and the Provisions of Oxford, for the Act of Settlement and the Bills of Right (2, one English, one Scots), for the flowers of the forest and the anti-slavery movement, for trades unionism and the Red Flag, to remember that governments should not seek windows into men's and women's souls, for the Civil War and the overthrow of tyrants, for the Pretenders who failed, that crofters should have rights, to remember Boudicca and her daughters...
Any of it ring a bell with you?

This is hands down one of the funniest, most deluded and, honestly fucking insane posts I’ve ever read on here. It’s really made me laugh. Thanks for the giggle 🤭

Such a tedious debating tactic, pretending someone's made a claim when they've said no such thing because it suits the talking points better.

What's wrong with engaging in good faith in what people have actually said - on all sides of the argument?

Magna Carta? Did she die in vain?

Oh please do point to where I said that! I'll wait. Alternatively you can apologise for calling me a racist. I don't care if you think I'm deeply unpleasant and rude.

You think that black and brown people couldn’t possibly be at the UK March? There’s a name for that.

Perfect28 · 17/05/2026 10:32

@5MinuteArgumentbecause we (rightly) have laws about hate speech and inciting violence.

I’m saying the number of arrests made and the drama on this thread doesn’t add up. You just can’t handle it because they conducted a successful march with minimum arrests, I know the left would have preferred it to end in a full scale riot but unfortunately for you it didn’t. Who was shouting about shooting someone? We’ve all seen the footage and the hate was coming from the pro Palestine march, hopefully the police track down everyone involved because we’ve seen people arrested for far less. You can’t call for peace in one country when you are marching in another chanting shoot him in the head.

Anyone likely to be targeted would stay well away from the march but they can’t necessarily stay off public transport, like the poor doctor who was abused as a ‘Paki’ and spat at. Or maybe her friend posting here was just creating drama and that sort of behaviour isn’t a big deal.

Ofcourse you won't credit the government.

They took control of our borders, isn't that what you want?
They allowed the march, free speech, isn't that what you want?
They spend money on the policing and secure safety, isn't that what you want?

Are you saying the Labour Government have control of our borders? Hahahahaha.

Every country on Earth reserves the right to ban entry to foreign agitators. My understanding is they spoke by video link so unsure why you this is a free speech issue.

They denied entry to 11 foreign influencers, what would you call that if not controlling borders?

Kanye West, another example.

Agree. Wouldn't I have loved to ask the guys I saw intimidating people on the tube what the Act of Settlement or Habeas Corpus were. Because I'm sure that's why they were marching.

Hang on, weren't Cnut, William the Conqueror and George I all immigrants? And Kings Harold and John the sons of immigrants?

I know of black people who attended. Gosh this place as usual is a sneering hot pot of middle class snobbery. Just read some of the posts what a huge majority on MN actually hate is the working class. Blindingly obvious, you can shout racist far right as much as you like to try and hide your snobbery. Doesn’t wash.

I'm working class and not 1 single person there represents my views.

Labour do not have control of our borders. What did their manifesto say, oh yes 'smash the gangs' and 'take back control of our borders'. Still waiting.....

Parker231 · 17/05/2026 10:42

I’ve googled but can’t find anything which states what the purpose of the march was - what did they want to achieve?

I’m not responsible for anyone else’s posts bar my own. And yes this thread suddenly became very fast moving. I noticed that.

So you are saying that barring people from entering the UK is not controlling the borders?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 17/05/2026 10:43

I would not go to a TR march, but I read here in MN from posters who attended the other march boasting how they shouted Nazi Scum at some of the TR ones
because it felt good.

This is so wrong.

Goading on both sides is wrong.

Pretty much the same people who brought us Brexit. Do a search on who funds Tommy Robinson (his other name works too).

Youre right about one thing, this is brexit all over again. The majority voted for it but if you were only online you would think the complete opposite. The dogs on the street could see which way the wind was blowing, I dont even live in the UK anymore but going by my DHs family, I knew it would win. Sneering, looking down on people, casting them as uneducated right wing fascists doesn't work. You'd do better to actually address the issues that have led to people feeling this way, which they still do in massive numbers.

You'd think people might have realised this by now but obviously not. Yes, telling people that they are uneducated, ignorant and stupid and that you know better will defintely work, keep doing that 👍

I got caught up in the middle of it this afternoon, I've never seen a bigger bunch of drunken bell ends.

Me too. Went to the ladies' loo in King's Cross station, had to dodge a very drunk older woman slurring, singing and staggering about wrapped in a flag. She was making an absolute tit of herself. Quite pathetic really. It's sad that some people lead such unfulfilling lives that this sort of event represents a good day out!
