Why are Jewish people facing persecution in the UK?

I don’t understand why Jewish people are being persecuted in this country. What is wrong with people?

I am in my late forties and never really came across antisemitism in the UK and thought it was very much a thing of the past. It was when Corbyn was labour leader, that lots seem to come out of the woodwork. I remember saying to my mother how surprised I was and how I was probably rather naive about it. I thought it was mostly older left wing men but it has become more widespread now.

Because there is a war going on between the Jewish state and Islamic states. Some people extrapolate that to mean that anyone from the religion “on the other side” is therefore the enemy.
Whether they live in Israel or Golders Green.

VashtaNerada · Yesterday 04:51

Racism, pure and simple. For the same reason Islamophobia is on the rise. The same people are voting Reform. The same reason flags are going up everywhere. Racism is becoming normalised and accepted.
And one of the things the racists love to do is pretend that antisemitism is led by the left or is led by Muslims but the reality is it’s being led by the same ideology that was behind the holocaust.
We must stand up against the racists and we mustn’t be bated into fighting with each other. Who stood up for the Jewish community at the Battle of Cable Street? It sure as hell wasn’t people like Farage.

AmIReallyTheGrownup · Yesterday 04:52

There has always been a low undercurrent of anti-semitism even amongst ordinary British society.

At the same time the proportion of people practising Islam has risen in the UK, which culturally has made a point of being incompatible with Judaism. We’ve got 4 MPs who were selected on a pro Gaza agenda. In what world should domestic local MPs be chosen on the basis of how they think about a faraway conflict?

All fanned by genuinely anti-Semitic people on the Corbyn and Polanski left who loudly perpetuate the idea that Jews are responsible for the world’s ills. The last 2 years have provided the most wonderful smokescreen for them.

Even now Polanski is wailing that the fellow who stabbed the 2 gents in Golders Green was subject to over the top policing. You can guarantee that had the man stabbed 2 ordinary white mums in Battersea, the same comments would not be made.

That isn’t what the data says, I’m afraid:

“Where respondents identified a political motive for the perpetrator of antisemitism they experienced, twice as many reported the perpetrator as “left-wing” (25%) or “Muslim extremist” (22%), than “right-wing” (11%).”

Slightly old data (2018), but a lot more recent than Cable Street.

The same reason as Jews persecute Christian’s in Israel? 🤷‍♀️
That doesn’t have a special name though.
The world is full of hate, just as Jesus said it would be.

here we go with the tropes

Except it isn't, because there were an increasing number of attacks on synagogues before the October attacks.

Not entirely convinced that is true.
https://bod.org.uk/bod-news/2023-worst-year-in-the-uk-for-antisemitism/

The Community Security Trust (CST)’s figures show unambiguously that 2023 was by far the worst year in the UK for antisemitism since records began.

The report makes clear what our community knows well – that antisemites use the pretext of Israel – in this case, the terror of October 7th and the conflict with Hamas – as an excuse for expressing their hatred against British Jews.

It is long past time for everyone else in the UK to wake up to this fact, and stand with us against this bigotry.
You can read the full report on the CST website.

It isn’t a reason to attack Jewish people in the UK.

keepswimming38 · Yesterday 05:42

Is there something about Somali culture and history that particularly wants to target Jewish people because whenever I seem to hear of terrorism against Jews the individual seems to be Somali? Perhaps that’s just my impression. On a day to day basis I don’t think about what religion and beliefs my neighbours have. I really don’t understand the hate.

It’s a pretty hardline anti-Israel govt. Also very high levels of mental health problems in the diaspora (psychosis and trauma) certainly won’t help.

Actually I think more antisemitic people would vote Green now since quite a few of their candidates have made openly antisemitic comments. Two Green Party candidates were arrested just yesterday for doing this, two women in their 50s (old enough to know better!)

Reform on the other hand is the party that would naturally attract those who are anti Muslim.

I wonder what Spring is Come?

Whatever our government is going or the Israel government is doing, there is no justification for attacking Jewish people in the UK.

It’s just racists looking for an excuse to get some of their hate out.

Correct above post to say that it does have a name. This is becoming quite common in Israel.
I don’t condone hate, but neither am I shocked.
People show hatred for other people,

Because the left wing in this country has become increasingly obsessed with Israel and increasingly antisemitic. Look at Livingstone / Corbyn etc

The increase in attacks to the Jewish community has gone hand in hand with the popularity of the far right, most noticeably Reform, this pattern has been followed in Europe too, with RN, Freedom Party etc etc

One only has to listen to the accounts of people who went to school with Farage to see where his sympathies lay.

We did not have the level of threat and attacks when Corbyn/Livingstone were at the height of their popularity.

You'll have to try again.

I was replying to this statement from AmIReallyTheGrownup "We’ve got 4 MPs who were selected on a pro Gaza agenda. In what world should domestic local MPs be chosen on the basis of how they think about a faraway conflict?"

I think our government is why this "far away conflict" is our problem and why all racism is increasing. I won't vote for any party that panders to Israeli aggression and apartheid.

Because Netanyahu is using the Jewish diaspora as a pawn or excuse to continue his actions in Gaza.

He knows that what he’s doing will lead to these other Jews (supporters of his or not) receiving backlash, and can then turn around and point at this to try to justify himself.

Many people are easily manipulated, hence why this is working.

Edited

So it’s basically Jewish people’s fault that Jewish people are attacked? Right.

I see this a lot. If only Jewish people would just not exist the problem would go away. They bring it all on themselves. What can you do? Why can’t they just disappear from Israel and leave it to the Muslims?

This. Racists go for any excuse and often they are happy to target anyone who isn’t white and Christian.

It’s not a complete list. There isn’t time.
I did not realise it was a competition.
You asked other people from other faiths being murdered in UK cities and I am answering yes, Muslims.

You do know that the stabbing terror attack in Golders Green did not result in murder?
