If there’s already a thread I couldn’t see it.

My god!!! That’s mad! So free bus travel that was meant to benefit people societally is now being used as a way to facilitate crime and cause bedlam. If the people doing this are kids the parents need to be held criminally responsible. It’s the only way to get someone to take responsibility.

Surely the simplest way to end this particular offence is by permanently withdrawing the free bus pass from all those who take part. This would need the police to take it seriously and the CPS to prosecute. CCTV and phone footage could also be used.

PerspicaciaTick · 02/04/2026 07:04

In the 1960s, 70s and 80s they used to travel to Southend on a Bank Holiday and have running battles on the front.
In the 1600s, the London apprentices would use one of their rare holidays to cause bedlam and carnage in the streets.
I think there are always young people who get a kick out of violence and chaos, gets the adrenaline pumping. I don't know how we prevent it.

Time for the government to step in and threaten TikTok with an outright ban in the UK if their platform is used to stir up dumb shit like this.

A few weeks ago it was the red Vs blue school team fighting and now this.

This IS kids being kids, though.

All this talk of 'societal breakdown' and 'chaos' is pure hyperbole.

Exactly the kind of thing touted on GB News.

Do not kid yourselves that this country will be a crime free haven of joy under a Reform government. Their entire manifesto is about cutting public services even further.

I’m not sure how you’ve jumped to talking about Reform 🙈

i saw this on the news last night
so awful, so dystopian

Dollymylove · 02/04/2026 08:18

Many of us of a certain age saw this coming years ago. The breakdown of the traditional family, the benefits culture, fatherless children, the removal of the authority of parents, teachers the police and the courts.
The drugs culture, social media.
These kids are untouchable and they know it.
So how do we reverse this decline? Is it too late?

Lock them in the shops. Call their parents. (Or tear gas because that’s what happens if you riot). Charge them for damages.

Why was it only girls that got caught .

Sadly while I agree with you, the criminals really do have more rights than us, I work in a busy transport hub in Wales, we already have groups of 50+ youths tearing through on pushbikes and giving it large to the public and us, last week a group smashed up the public toilets, ripping a sink off the wall, smashing soap dispensers and putting all the ceiling tiles through. Police response is haphazard at best. A colleague recently had to physically restrain someone out of it on drugs and the lowlife whacked my colleagues forehead, breaking the skin with his ring and leaving my colleague concussed. My colleague got cautioned for using excessive force on the lowlife. You can't make it up

Perhaps the police should review the youths’ Twitter accounts? I’m sure at least one of them will have used some hurty words and some point, meaning that the police can at least arrest and imprison them for something?

The platform of choice is Snapchat we find , it's encrypted? I'd ban all social media, just my opinion but!?

These kids think they are untouchable, but in a previous post I spoke of the 50 youths rampaging on pushbikes? I was so sick of it I just stood at the entrance door where they were planning to turn and come back and just stood. One of them brought his bike wheel right up and rested it on my chest. I activated my body cam. They were laughing and being rude about me: I smiled and looked stupid. It took 20 minutes but I stared them down and they didn't come back. My colleagues in the toilets that got smashed up now wear body cam and film too. If no one pushes back at them they will just carry on

ilovebrie8 · 02/04/2026 09:36

It was a mass mob in M&S Clapham stealing and making trouble . Apparently some had zombie knives it looks totally terrifying. Lot of videos on social media so should hopefully be able to make more arrests. Looks like all black kids from the videos and pics circulating.

ilovebrie8 · 02/04/2026 09:43

There are lots of videos all over tik tok so police should be able to make more arrests of the culprits. Pulling stuff off the shelves and causing carnage, running riot basically. Where is Boris’s water cannon that is needed? Police were way outnumbered and they’d no fear of the police.

JuliettaCaeser · 02/04/2026 09:58

I would send the army in to remove the phones of every teen involved. They would hate that.

Agreed, there's free bus travel to all for Good Friday through Monday and next weekend in our area. Perfect opportunity for the Muppets as we call them to wreak havoc

People seem to get very upset online locally if footage is uploaded of teens doing anti-social stuff. Personally I think if you do unlawful stuff your right to privacy should be instantly terminated, but I do find it interesting that the person uploading the video becomes the villain every time.

OP posts:
Spittykityy · 02/04/2026 10:27

OP , any time we use our body cam it's just uploaded onto a cloud and only the police can access it. We would NEVER post it on social media. The public can and do record rioters , and put it on social media. If anyone is stupid enough to riot in public, they can expect to be caught. In our workplace we also have CCTV and there's CCTV all round town too

Yeah

Confiscate their phones.

Any free travel.

And think about suspending child benefit for parents.

Isekaied · 02/04/2026 10:34

Nothing in the North West at the moment.

But it's absolutely disgusting and no excuses for it.

Just yobs.

They should be prosecuted.

youalright · 02/04/2026 10:35

It just makes me laugh how stupid people are now they record themselves and their mates committing crimes and then post it online.

These are the kids we shut in at home with no oversight on family circumstances beyond the odd phone call from a social worker, during covid, aren't they?

No. These are the kids with lazy parents.

They do it because clout with their peers is more important than anything else, it’s the ultimate currency.

A lot of the public were recording videos by the looks of it there is no shortage of videos and footage; they deserve to be named and shamed and dealt with harshly.
The time for pussyfooting is long, long over and the girls are as bad as the males.
From the BBC three girls have been arrested for assaulting an emergency worker at the scene at M&S on Tuesday two of those are 13 and one is 17. They do not care they will attack anyone...

And how many will be arrested? Plus will they care that much if they are

Addusernamehere · 02/04/2026 11:35

Love the classism on display here.
I work in a shopping centre in a very nice affluent area and we have problems with anti-social behaviour all the time kids throwing things smashing stuff up, setting off fire alarms, I've personally been threatened and racially abused a number of times.
Even when we catch them red handed and have them taken home by the police to their very nice houses in this very nice area. The parents will not absolutely not believe their child has done anything wrong, and will blame the shopping centre for escalating the situation because they're precious child would never do such a thing.
Almost every parent in the area is convinced its being caused by Kids from outside even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary .
Trying to engage with anyone about the behaviour is pointless because they are so convinced its not their children, its kids from from the deprived area next door. Even the local MP for the area believes this and so any measure we try and put in go nowhere.
It's very easy to blame poor kids for anti social behaviour and talk about poor parenting, whilst exhibiting wilful blindness about what your own children are.
It may surprise you to learn that children who's parents defend and excuse their behaviour or constantly deflect any accusations of misbehaviour on to other kids, raise just as shitty kids as those that "smoke weed all day" .

HardyEustace · 02/04/2026 11:43

I don’t believe these people have a place in society. They should all be locked up. They have nothing to offer.

zacsGranny · 02/04/2026 11:49

I haven't read the whole thread but I had a similar experience on Sunday.
I had a hospital appointment, so wandered into my local city afterwards. Initially I thought it was quiet until I went into the shopping centre and entered The Works.
A gang of young girls, average age about 12, all full face of make up, including huge false eye lashes, and very skimpily dressed, ran in.
Now The Works is a narrow shop and they caused chaos, knocking things off the shelves and centre displays and pushing people out of the way. A couple of customers were knocked over and I think some things were stolen.
The girls were screaming and laughing.

I felt so sorry for the staff in the shop, and concerned for my own safety and everyone else involved. I helped to pick things up and tidy up.
Totally agree with the suggestion about locking them in the shops, and charging for damage, but what about other customers?
Taking away phones and bus passes and banning social media would certainly help too.
I won't be going to town again in a hurry.
