Have people seen the horrible news?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15161103/Marcus-Fakana-dies-teenager-jailed-Dubai-sex-17-girl-killed-car-crash.html

The boy jailed for having sex with a 17 yo girl in Dubai has been killed in a car crash whilst being pursued by police (he was a passenger).

To think if he'd probably still be alive today if he hadn't been granted the royal pardon. Sad

Marcus Fakana: Boy jailed in Dubai for sex with teen killed in crash

Marcus Fakana, 19, died in a fatal collision in Tottenham, north London , at around 1am on Friday after a car he was passenger in failed to stop when being blue-lighted by the Metropolitan Police.

Yeah imagine if the girl had been a passenger and died too

MissyB1 · 04/10/2025 10:22

Awful news, so sad, his poor family 😢

You know absolutely nothing about why he was there, what was going on etc. It could be something bad but it could equally be he and a friend were driving home from a party, the friend was over the limit and panicked. Would he deserve to have been sent to prison and then later die because of a future risk assessment error of judgement?

The mother's actions in reporting him to the Dubai authorities were sociopathic. There are plenty of things you can do if you disapprove of a relationship without subjecting a teenage boy to a foreign justice system known for extensive human rights abuses, especially towards foreigners and black people.

TheNightingalesStarling · 04/10/2025 10:26

His death was due to the actions of the driver, no one else. Only they now why they didnt stop.

Only the mother knows why she reported him. Maybe vindictive, maybe trying to protect her child... who knows.

And yes, very terrible for his family.

What was the issue with a police chase who was he with when the crash happened? Most people drive around and do not end up being chased by the police without good reason.
His poor family and the girls mother should be totally ashamed of herself, it's like manslaughter by default on her part.

A lot more common for it to happen to young black men than the rest of the population

I'm more interested in the motives of the mother of the girl he had sex with. If this Mail story is correct the girl was a month off being 18, and the sex was consensual, but the mother reported him to the Dubai police.

All very sad for his family.

He was guilty of being black - the mother should hang her vindictive head in shame.

Feel desperately sad for his family. They have 18 years of memories of their son before that fateful holiday and now they’ll never get the chance to rebuild their lives with him. Just a sad story all round

Are you saying that without her complaint he wouldn’t have been in a car in England being chased by the English police ? That’s a “bit” of a stretch.

tiredangry · 04/10/2025 10:30

This is utterly appalling.

Jail for the driver.

The girls mother sounded like a nasty piece of work from the very start of all this. I wonder if she and the daughter still have a relationship

PrincessOfPreschool · 04/10/2025 10:35

I imagine being imprisoned took its toll on his mental health, education, future. Who knows what bad decisions that could lead to? So yes, I do 'blame' the mother who got him into that.

Perfectly put in a nutshell

It's not the mother's fault that the young man who had committed an offence in a country where it is an offence happened to be a passenger in a car that crashed at a later point in time because the driver apparently decided to commit an offence and fail to stop for Police in London.

How is it "like manslaughter by default"? If he'd died while in the prison (or in Dubai when he wasn't allowed to leave), I could understand your point, but not this.

MondayYogurt · 04/10/2025 10:41

RIP

Feel as if driving has got worse since lockdown. I just saw a white van tearing down a 20mph street, when it hit a speed bump it actually flew a little.

Tealpins · 04/10/2025 10:43

Oh, this is so tragic. I am heartbroken for his family. So so sad.

WalkDontWalk · 04/10/2025 10:43

@Gallivant
Exactly. She was trying to protect her daughter. Rightly, as it turns out.

How do you arrive at 'rightly'?

Isekaied · 04/10/2025 10:45

There needs to be more controls on young drivers.

We see too many of these types of stories in the news.

Teen driver carrying passengers crashes which leads to deaths and injuries.

The only silver lining is it seems no one else was injured due to the crash.

How on earth has the mother got anything to do with manslaughter? Was she driving the car?

Linenpickle · 04/10/2025 11:10

He had a second chance at life and look how it ended. Wonder why they wanted to avoid being stopped by the police…

That’s assuming the car chase was due to bad decisions that he had any control over. He was just a passenger. There isn’t a lot of detail yet.

Even if that is the case, trauma only accounts for so much.

TY78910 · 04/10/2025 11:39

Westfacing · 04/10/2025 09:13

Well he would have been alive and due for release soon - so it's a bitter irony.

As for the manner of this young man's death - what needs to be answered right now? He was a passenger in a car and is now dead.

It is a bitter irony, but a weird link to draw from a tragedy. Same as all the news articles stating what happened and who he was but then going on to full recap of the Dubai story like the two are somehow related.

And I do think there are questions around the circumstances - yes it is tragic that he passed away, but as I said above the media is full of linking the two together. More needs to be announced around the circumstances.

friendsDisUnited · 04/10/2025 11:48

I don’t see much of a link between the mother reporting his relationship and him being in this crash. Sad he died but it would seem he was mixed up in something illegal.

It's true, you can't blame trauma for hurting someone. But, as he wasn't even driving, it seems like he probably just chose an unwise friendship or to put himself in an unsafe situation, which could very easily have been a result of his trauma. It's all conjecture but I would bet the trauma played a large part in what killed him.

Well yes, you could think that in the twelve weeks since his release from prison and time back with his parents that he's made a new, unsuitable friend solely as a result of his conviction rather than him being out with somebody he had known from prior to imprisonment - and that the conviction in accordance with the laws of the country he was in at the time was the sole reason why this has happened.

I'm sure it'll become clearer in time.
