Musk has just tweeted that Trump is on the Espstein list. Shock horror, not! :-) This is going to roll and roll. USA elected children to run the country and to be the leader of the Western World! Popcorn at the ready......

It's quite the spectacle and can only get more entertaining!

And something everyone predicted would happen - I'm surprised they lasted so long.

Meantime there are wars to be stopped with no chance of that now.

That Nobel Prize for Peace that 🍊🌮 hankers after seems to be slipping further away.

World leaders acting like toddlers having a tantrum: inevitable, we could all see it would happen eventually but sad to see how many are gleeful and bringing out the popcorn.

It isn't entertaining in the slightest, just appalling that this is the state of world politics today. Throw in Putin, plus a few leaders in the middle east who care little while they blast their citizens into oblivion, and China waiting in the wings and truly, the world is a dreadful place.

It all gives me such a heavy heart.

I have been saying since Trump got in that I wouldn't be at all surprised if he accidentally fell out a hotel window in a very Russian manner or suffered some other health event. I mean it seems far fetched but a lot of very unlikely things have happened in the last few months.

I hadn’t thought of defenestration. It would have to be the right window. I have always hoped someone would feed him more burgers. Gross man.

BitingFrog · 06/06/2025 07:53

I often idly wondered if Elon Musk was playing the long game and secretly hated Trump and wanted to bring him down and help save the world.. maybe this is it! <feeling hopeful>

CaveMum · 06/06/2025 08:00

I’d highly recommend catching up with last night’s TRIP US emergency podcast - you can listen in the usual manner or watch it on YouTube.

Mooch thinks Elon may try to set up a new political party (he’s talked about it before and has the financial means), which could have an interesting effect in splitting the Republican vote, even just short term.

Katty disagrees.

I agree with those saying MAGA is the cult of Trump. Without him they will drift away/fade into insignificance. I doubt Vance has the force of vanity to hold it altogether and then it will be all out civil war in the GOP as they all fight for the heart of it.

Has Musk only just noticed that the tariffs could cause a recession? Because otherwise you'd have to wonder why he didn't say anything when they were first announced.

He did. That was the start of the souring of their relationship.

I was secretly hoping the same, but about Trump bringing down Putin.
Wishful thinking.

Well, only one world leader having a tantrum, to be fair. And when he's having a tantrum because he's fallen out with his former mate and bankroller, the situation definitely has its compensations.

It's a bit like watching Boris imploding - it was appalling that our PM was behaving like that, but entertaining watching him sink his own political career.

Totally agree. He is undoubtedly clever. Clearly lacking in emotional intelligence and basic human decency, but he is intelligent nonetheless.

His clear intelligence (which is a very high IQ, but lots of other people have a very high IQ but don't succeed in the way he has) had a bunch of other contributing factors which have lead him to where he is.

He had very affluent parents and was able to maximise all the opportunities that came with that level of privilege. He didn't need to worry about funding his education. He had money to start his first business. He had contacts from that to make his first ventures successful. That's a massive head start over so many.

Then his lack of emotional intelligence was an asset not a hindrance. It made him ruthless which is great for being successful in business.

His drug use highlights his addictive personality and his risk taking. He is obsessed with what he does and it's his world, but he is prepared to throw the dice. He has had good fortune and luck. He has come close to losing on occasion.

Yes he lacks emotional intelligence and the ability to play the charmer which is essential for politics. This is the thing Trump has but he doesn't. Trumps use of simple English is one of his biggest assets with his base. He's a great communicator and doesn't alienate with big words or ideas.

And in fairness to Vance MUST have a certain amount of emotional intelligence to have made it to VP.

I wouldn't say Musk totally lacks charisma though. It's different. He can't appeal to rednecks. He doesn't speak the same language as rednecks. His English level is educated. He speaks at a level of English I connect to better than Trump because of his education. (This is a reflection of me not Musk or Trump - I'm educated).

I do think he has a certain following. Perhaps cult following but he does have people who had on his every word as if it's godlike. It just that these people perhaps aren't as brash and vocal in the same way as Trump followers and he hasn't tapped into the wider disaffection existing in the US. Trump has become the figurehead for the disaffected. He promises the earth and then when he reneges on that just throws more raw meat to keep them all 'on the hook' and 'understanding their priorities' which other politicians don't do. Musk is just about what works for him, and doesn't think about how to sell that to anyone else. He's selfish and inward looking.

Trump is predictable even in his unpredictability. People go, he wouldn't possibly do x, y or z. But those paying attention knowing that if he says it he's genuinely considering it so you shouldn't discount it. He has verbal diarrhoea - there's no filter between his brain and his gob. He wings it on the job making it up as he goes. It's served him well because it confuses people so much that he doesn't play by the rules and they can't cope with it. They think there must be a limit but in Trumps head there are no limits.

Musk has points where he ultimately doesn't go. If it's not in his business interests ultimately he will run away from it. He'll reverse and double down. He likes to be a lot more considered than Trump. In this way, he's less volatile. He doesn't like rules, but he can see the rules of limitations that naturally exist.

Both are utterly self obsessed and have ego the size of planets. The moment they disagree seriously on anything, neither was ever going to back down. Both will say anything that suits their own interests.

Musk has a self destructive streak Trump doesn't have though. That's where I think they differ most. Trump will pile blame on others rather than take responsibility. Musk will do this but part of his issue is that he takes on so much responsibility on a personal level. He's the workaholic that Trump isn't.

I find Musk wholly unlikeable but utterly fascinating in a way I don't with Trump. This makes him a bit of a walking car crash you can't help but rubber neck at. But I do think this is mostly because I simply can relate to Musk better than Trump because he communicates with a more establishment vocabulary even though he's somewhat outside the establishment way of thinking like Trump.

They both terrifying me, but both are frankly uncontrollable so you just have to get the popcorn...

I think Musk may try and set up a political party too. If only to try and piss off Trump. (It's doomed to failure btw). Musk likes to work alone too much. Trump delegates to suckups. Musk likes handpicked trusted but competent staff who work themselves to death. Political parties don't really work on that basis. Certainly not if you are up against a populist.

Peter thiel isn't from SA. He's German. He bankrupted a whole media company (gawker) in return for outing him, though of course he doesn't say that. He bankrolled an entirely different lawsuit as revenge. He has his fingers in a lot of pies, both through Palantir and through his VC fund. Also, he's linked to a guy named Curtis Yarvin who is openly anti-democratic. There's a profile of Yarvin in the new issue of the New Yorker and the NYT magazine had an interview with him a few months ago; he's getting a lot of publicity.

He is German but was brought up in South Africa and Swakopmund, Namibia which was a haven for German Nazi sympathisers.

SwedishEdith · 06/06/2025 09:43

Did everyone see how Merz dealt with Trump in the WH yesterday? Classy. And apparently gave him a present showing him his German ancestry - you too are the child of immigrants.

Elon's ex wife offering Trump breakup advice made my week.

Tiredalwaystired · 06/06/2025 09:59

If the Epstein story wasn’t true you could bet your last penny that Trump would IMMEDIATELY have threatened to take Musk to court for libel…

Don't know how I missed this.

Hilarious 😂😂😂

Yeah I bet they are!

Exactly. And that’s why Trump needs to make this go away as fast as possible, before people start asking questions or Elon starts dropping receipts.

Do we know if they’re going to share custody of Joe Rogan?

MargoLivebetter · 06/06/2025 10:23

I've got my massive bowl of popcorn. It was in the cupboard for less long than I thought it would be but I knew I'd need it. Trump falls out with everyone. I suspect it is going to be very entertaining.

Just glad it is not here. Johnson & Truss's shenanigans were more than enough to be getting on with and we're a tinpot country these days. Watching the US implode and the vacuum left behind has global ramifications.

Not ex wife, merely an influencer who had one of his many children who then had a public falling out with him about it.

Musk gets into quite a few public spats.

Thats going so well for the mothers of Musk's MANY children...

When are we going to see the private messages between Trump and Musk being splattered all over social media.

Can't wait for that gem.
