Musk has just tweeted that Trump is on the Espstein list. Shock horror, not! :-) This is going to roll and roll. USA elected children to run the country and to be the leader of the Western World! Popcorn at the ready......

BTW, everyone should watch the Onion's latest satire video on Vance. He is much nicer in it than real life!

The problem with Vance is MAGA.

MAGA are Trumpists. They're none too keen on Vance. They only tolerate him because Trump does.🤷‍♀️

Interesting. I don't know anything about Thiel, I will have to do some reading.

He's a study in contradictions.. He is gay & had kids w a surrogate, but funds a conservative women's magazine, Evie, which promotes a hilarious trad ideology & is anti-lgb (not just t) and surrogacy! Plus it promotes his NFP app, to try & get more women to have babies, as we all know NFP is not often as accurate as other methods.

Oh and he wants to live forever. He's into cryonics & claims that his body is aging v slowly, monitored constantly.

The thing is, they both have massive egos, but Musk is a lot more intelligent than Trump. If I had to bet on which one of the two will "win" this spat (if they don't mutually self destruct), my money is on Elon.

I think Trump will be gone before the end of his term, and if we think things are bad now, they might be about to get a whole lot worse.

No, he really isn’t. Musk is nowhere near as intelligent as he makes out.

MAGA won’t side with a South African over Trump, and won’t hesitate to turn on him.

AliasGrace47 · 06/06/2025 02:23

The more I read about Bernie Sanders, the more I wish he could have run in 2016. I like a lot of what Hillary has done, and the MAGA demonisation of her is ridiculous & disturbing. But ultimately I think the 'liberal elite' criticism of her has some validity: her policies were not left with enough economically. I do feel the emphasis in some papers on the importance of the 1st woman president was a bit shortsighted. It is important, but it needs to be a woman w the right policies. Bernie was progressive on other social issues, not just economics..

I've never understood why people say this. He's obviously extremely clever. I have no idea whether he's a 'genius', but he very clearly has a significantly above average intellect. Hence he went to significantly above average universities, was offered significantly above average internships, then a very significantly above average doctorate programme, and then enjoyed a very, very significantly above average career. The idea of him a achieving that as an idiot, like some modern-day Forrest Gump, makes him sound vastly more impressive than if he just happens to have been born with a big brain!

And if I, random person on the internet, am not convincing enough, surely the chorus of people who know him, or have worked with him, or who have a strong understanding of what it is to be a tech CEO, who to a man say he is extraordinarily clever, should be believed? Why would they lie? Even people who hate him say that, like Bezos when Musk was attacking him. Or Bill Gates who he gave a big interview saying how unpleasant and dangerous he was, precisely because he was extraordinarily clever. In fact, I can think of many people who despise him, but can't off-hand think of anyone at all who's worked with him who's ever said he's not smart. A nasty bastard yes, but definitely smart. Only occasional posters on internet forums seem to doubt it, most of whom I'm going to guess haven't ever met him... or been invited to undertake a material science PhD at Stanford... or started even one multi-billion dollar company.

It's a real bug-bear of mine (as you may be able to tell!); why make him sound more exciting than he is? He's a very, very clever guy with a horrible personality, and almost certainly some very severe mental health issues. That makes him a lot more dangerous, and a lot less impressive, than if he were some dribbling idiot who bungled his way into being the richest person on earth, and into the White House.

Totally agree. He is undoubtedly clever. Clearly lacking in emotional intelligence and basic human decency, but he is intelligent nonetheless.

I didn’t say he wasn’t intelligent. He is. What I said is that he isn’t as intelligent as he makes out. He’s an exceptional grifter in his own right, but he got grifted by a better one. He’s compromised by his drug use, brittle ego, and need for public recognition/approval. He also lacks Trump’s charisma (like him or loathe him, he has that).

His popularity with MAGA was due to his association with Trump and his perceived usefulness to the cause. His wealth and influence were indeed invaluable, and he also made a great (proverbial) human shield when drawing public ire away from Trump. He’ll also make a great scapegoat now.

My2cents1975 · 06/06/2025 03:34

The fact that both Trump and Elon are choosing to spend valuable time temper trantruming on X is just ridiculous.

There are so many problems in the world that need USA leadership and Trump is failing to meet the moment. Elon needs to focus on Tesla creating electric vehicles which do not pollute our air and also on SpaceX to get humanity to the moon, Mars and beyond.

Both of them need a serious ego check.

oh it’s wonderful - I’ve been waiting for this breakup to happen 🤣

Realistically, we all already knew that Trump, aka the Mango Mussolini, was in the Epstein files.

What stands out here is that Elon Musk knew Trump was in those files, yet still proudly wore “Trump was right about everything” hats and publicly praised him as “wonderful” and “perfect.” So much for his supposed concern about Epstein or pedophiles. It’s clearly all political theatre.

Honestly, this feels more like a self-own than a dig at Trump. Musk is essentially admitting that he knew and just didn’t care because Trump was politically useful to him.

Elon thinks he’s scoring points, but this isn’t new information about Trump. We already knew. The real takeaway is that Musk knew, stayed silent, and is only bringing it up now to serve his own agenda.

Of course Trump looks terrible here, and Epstein is obviously a monster. But the only truly new information is Musk telling on himself and revealing that he has no real morals.

The thing is, Musk’s comments may suggest complicity, opportunism, or even a moral failure, they do not amount to courtroom evidence unless he provides first-hand knowledge of a specific criminal act which would actually be helpful if he genuinely wants to take Trump down.

Unfortunately they have been, and are, influential. Hence why Elon Musk threw his lot in with them in the first place. Today has cost him $32 billion of his personal net worth, and wiped $134 billion from Tesla. Trump’s business have also suffered as a result, but not to the same degree, and unlike Musk he wields the power of the Presidency.

Elon Musk needs those government contracts and subsidies. Trump can cut them. He can remove his security clearance. Hell, he can find a reason to seize his U.S based assets and/or even deport him. Incidentally, Musk has already walked back his threat to decommission the Dragon capsules, which is quite telling.

Add to the list,
1 Palintir is owned by him. They do some ethically questionable things.
2 his background, grew up in apartheid SA, in a region that celebrated nazis
3 he was an early trump supporter and mentors a lot of powerful people.

I suppose that lack of consistency can be explained in a few ways; his personal views conflict with his business/ financial interests and what is OK for him is not the same as what he thinks the masses should do, he sees himself as exceptionally elite and wants to control society

A lot of these people want population growth, I wonder why? They also talk about jobs being replaced by ai.

babasaclover · 06/06/2025 05:14

I’ve got electric car NOT Tesla and have to say used the Tesla charging points for first time at weekend. My god they are brilliant. Hope his company doesn’t fail for this reason never mind the man being a knob 😂. Happy the price of any other charger and he’s STILL the richest man in the world. Kind of shows up the greed of the other suppliers.

BlusteryLake · 06/06/2025 05:24

It's all so yawnsomely predictable. They're both so immature and egotistical, it's embarrassing to watch. I truly feel sorry for the ordinary US citizens living in such a shitshow of a country.

noblegiraffe · 05/06/2025 23:42

Why would he cosy up to Farage? He already fell out with Farage over Tommy Robinson and said he wasn't fit to lead Reform and Rupert Lowe should lead it instead.

@noblegiraffe because Zia Yusuf, the former Asian chairman of Reform, has now resigned; Reform can become the ultra nationalist party for those with certain ideas that the rest of us can't stomach. Watch while millions of dollars gets pumped into certain parties with supporters of a certain ilk.

Musk controls X, so it's really going ot be interesting how he is going to manage Trump's postings as well as boosting his own. Trump might have to stick to his Truth (anything but) Social now.

I haven't been following this enough. Is it true they were they given farms to manage in the USA?

I'm in SA and updates on them are quite low key.

But I did see that one of the female refugees may be in a bit of hot water as allegedly she applied under false pretenses as her partner/husband is already in the US and this was the only way she could also get over.

So that means that the pre-checks cannot have been that thorough.

I haven't been following in depth though but I was of the assumption they would be offered work on existing farms initially.

MoominUnderWater · 06/06/2025 06:21

I don’t think Must has political intelligence. And this may be his undoing. I’ve no doubt he’s extremely intelligent in the areas of his business, his PhD, tech, etc.

Bernie did run and lost the primary. His supporters blame party politics, since he only became a Democrat to run for president. His biggest issue is his failure to connect with nonwhite voters, especially down South. People may write off the south because of the general election, but it's important in the primary.

also, having been here at the time, Comey's October announcement might have tipped the election. It ultimately came down to 75,000 voters in 3 states.

knitnerd90 · 06/06/2025 07:12

Peter thiel isn't from SA. He's German. He bankrupted a whole media company (gawker) in return for outing him, though of course he doesn't say that. He bankrolled an entirely different lawsuit as revenge. He has his fingers in a lot of pies, both through Palantir and through his VC fund. Also, he's linked to a guy named Curtis Yarvin who is openly anti-democratic. There's a profile of Yarvin in the new issue of the New Yorker and the NYT magazine had an interview with him a few months ago; he's getting a lot of publicity.
