Are we just going for the head in the sand approach or are we going to get a pamphlet or something?

I'm practicing my hand to hand combat moves while dancing to Everybody was Kung Fu fighting.

I've got that as an earworm now, and that is no bad thing. Thank you Grin

We have a perfectly competent defence system. Let NATO worry about that.

The whole point of having nuclear weapons is that we DONT have to use them. Just the threat is enough of a deterrent

No we don’t.

SARMAT2 is by far the most dangerous and fast missle on the planet. It is hypersonic and it’s so fast, no defence system can stop it.

USA lost track of how to keep up.

Russia has us on this one.

They can deploy multiple warheads to multiple locations within seconds and nothing can shoot them out of the sky.

If Russia wants to destroy Europe it can. Easily. With no recompense.

The problem is, USA would deploy nuclear weapons to Russia at that point as a response. Probably. Or maybe not, now we’ve got Trump. He doesn’t care much for nato or Europe and pretty much told Russia to attack any part of NATO that doesn’t pay up as USA wouldn’t be protecting it anymore.

Assuming USA did launch nuclear wespons at Russia, there, things would be over but potentially they’d launch another SARMAT2 at USA.

it’s game over for everyone.

my guess is they’ll use low level nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Give Europe a taste of what’s to come…

Well it's good practise to have a week's worth of food in incase of transport issues particularly in the colder weather.

I live in the blast zone for a nuclear power station so hopefully it will be pretty quick.

I'm not in any way concerned, what will be will be and we'll deal with it when it comes as so many different scenarios.

Do you get given potassium iodide tablets just in case there's a problem with the reactor?

Threads - BBC iPlayer

this tells you everything you need to know, I watched it at the time as did most people, I think it paid a large part in the fuck it way we partied back then, as the world was going to end anyway so you may as well have fun.

As already posted, the UK has preparation advice and emergency plans for different potential scenarios. You can also look up your local resilience forum, which will have advice specific to your area.

GG1986 · 20/11/2024 13:35

Just like the goverment was unprepared with covid, they will also be unprepared if WW3 kicks off!!. If we are nuked then there isn't really anything to prepare for, we will be wiped out.

This is a far more likely scenario to prepare for:

@KvotheTheBloodless no, we aren't that close and not sure they do that anyway, DD s doing her work experience there so will ask her to find out if they do those types of mitigating actions which would be interesting.

If the power stations in Suffolk had a Chernobyl scale issue the vast majority of Norfolk / Suffolk and Cambs would have massive issues. Now that sort of incident is unlikely unless a bomb dropped on them but we also have a very active air force that are always out in the North Sea practising and heading of inquisitive russian planes.

Sarmat/Satan-2, isn't that the one that left a 60m crater where the launchpad used to be when they tested it a couple of months ago? The fourth in a series of failed tests.

Apparently Finland and Sweden are giving out pamphlets. Germany has published a document where they are going to act as a ‘logistics hub’ for NATO troops. Russia is mass producing mobile bunkers for their citizens. I just wonder what Keir and crew are getting together for us.
A Powerpoint to duck and take cover at least? I had to change the autocorrect from’dick’ and take cover 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Don't believe everything you read in the press.

Sweden issues this pamphlet fairly regularly. The last version was issued 6 years ago. I understand the new version has undergone a major update.

Finland isn't giving out pamphlets. It has produced a web guide on "preparing for incidents and crisis". It is guidance for what to do if there are long power and water outages, long disruptions in internet or banking services, storms, wildfire or longer-term crises such as war.

I don't know if Germany has produced a new document, but the first document proposing becoming a logistics hub dates back to 2018.

Russia has indeed begun producing mobile bomb shelters. However, these are for top military and civilian personnel, not for the general population. Each bunker holds 54 people, so they would need around 3 million to protect their entire population.

The UK has updated the "What to do in a radiation emergency" page on the government's website.

Assuming you meant "response". The UK nuclear deterrent at sea is there to provide such a response. Depending which option Sunak chose for his Letters of Last Resort.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 20/11/2024 13:43

Better they don't tbh. When KFC ran.out of chicken, people rang the police.

that just made me lol 🤣

My thyroid didn't survive it's last contact with radiation, I'm more concerned about running out of levothyroxine.

Same!! I wouldn't last long without my thyroxine.

Chenecinquantecinq · 20/11/2024 13:43

There won't be an attack on UK, potentially NATO facilities in Poland/ Romania but that is not UK and doubt even that will happen.

By doing what? We need guidance!

😅its a nuke, we'll either die if we're close enough, die slowly if we're not or be stuck in in the some disaster zone holding pen.

have a full tank if you have car, bikes as well probably better as petrol goes off if left sitting for a long.

death seems the best pick of choices.

What if it's a cyber attack, not a nuke?

hellywelly3 · 20/11/2024 13:46

I wouldn’t want to live in a post nuclear bomb world. I’d hope it was over quickly.

what would be the point of that? No point irradiating even more of a country you want to conquer. A big part of Ukraine has already been knocked out of use by radiation.

Jeesh, can you imagine them sending a pamphlet to the British public, it'll be panic buying all over again like the petrol and covid!!
